With the season already dusted for us, I'd like to see the coaching staff trying a handful of new things over the final few rounds. There's no point waiting until next season to implement new tactics or positional swaps and, if anything, doing so will be quite harmful to our chances at making the finals next year. If we happen to slide down the ladder as a result, then that's really only a positive. Doubly so if Billings leaves under FA for band 1 compo; we could be looking at two picks in top top 5/6 which should be used on two elite midfielders, IMO.

Young Cooper we drafted looks like he could be our second best mark
Let's see how he goes against AFL quality players before judging that.

Very different than playing SANFL reserve or country footy.

He's still be a long way off anyone in our 22 I'd say.

Everyone looks good when you watch their highlights after being drafted.

King and Membrey are currently in the top 15 contested marks in the comp and Marshall is 36th with just 5 games.

From former recruitment guy I know , wouldn’t be getting too excited .

His comments were he would have needed to improve significantly to make it were his words.
They are not always right as you would know , i just said he takes a nice mark , nothing about him making it , maybe he will

Anyone going that late in a mid-season draft is always going to be a long shot to make it.

Hopefully he is one of the few who will.

If we can get our game together i believe Billings will valuable to us. Same with Battle.

I'm not getting rid of either of them.
It’s not that they aren’t valuable. Let’s be really clear with that.

its that as it stands. They aren’t stars and Billings can be the pathway forward for us getting 2 players who are better via compensation and his salary to target free agents in 2022.

the group as it is - when fit, could maybe be the 4th best in the league with some luck. It’s not a. Flag winning list.

The thing with Billings is that he just isn't consistent enough. Both within seasons and season to season as well.

If he was able to play near his best week in week out he would be an A grader. Unfortunately he has struggled with that throughout his career.

If we could get a first round pick for him then we would take it and run. I don't see that happening though, Crouch got a second round and he is twice the player JB is.

I think we are in a similar position with JB to the Dogs with Shaun Higgins when he left. They ended up getting a second rounder, Higgins went on to have a great career with the Roos.

We used a second rounder last year to get Jack Higgins. He looks like a gun in the making. Otherwise we could take it to the draft.

I struggle to see JB staying with us unless he is willing to take a huge pay cut. Not a leader at the club. Not consistent. Just seems the writing is on the wall.

That's the point too , Its not like we don't rate them as players , we need more A graders if we are ever going to win another flag , neither of them are anywhere near A grade , we need a Parrish type , Now he is a kid worth Two firsts

For all the criticisms you could give Billings, these two dont make much sense.

He would have been one of our most consistent players this year, with last weekend being one of his few quiet games of the year with the other being against Richmond. One of the few players in the comp averaging over 20 disposals and 1 goal a game. He is a consistently good player.

This is his third year in the leadership group so he is viewed as a leader within the club.

Letting him go for anything but a first rounder would be taking a big step backwards.

Geez i be positive for a change and still cop it lol

Yeah i know its a big step up but he has as much chance as anyone to make it

OK, I'll take back the leadership thing, but stand by the consistency factor. Very up and down player, having a decent year this year but still up and down.

He's been playing as a forward this year in a very average side which is hard.

Overall I think he's been pretty good, he's just not the superstar we hoped he would be.

If he plays for Melbourne this year he probably looks like an AA player, but he's just not good enough to do that on his own without a good team around him

Considering he hasn’t trained since about rd4, I think his weekly output is still pretty good and he is still had less ‘poor’ games than most of our other players.

I understand and feel the excitement about possibility getting both kings down in our forward line but I feel so wary. If we sell the farm for him and continue to be mediocre we’ve crippled our development more and won’t have any draft picks to get mids or backs.

I can see it playing out like those clubs who get a player in for the sentiment and it ****s them

He's completely speculative, he's been playing Ammos then SANFL reserves. He's pretty much a lottery ticket pick up. His video makes it looks as though he's got some skill and nice traits but he'd have to be a pretty unique story. Although Jimmy Gwilt came out of a suburban footy system and hit the ground running. Ended up one of my favourites.

He's pretty consistent to me.Most years it's half a season he looks AA, second half he goes at about 75% and coasts to the finish line. To me he's never really poor, just always a bit of a plain Jane player. Some players set the tempo high and make shit happen, Billings is the link in the chain type, he distributes well, he runs to make an option etc. All the shit coaches love but he never really goes above and beyond and cracks a game open. He has done it in the past but never week to week. I think if he'd been in a better system played to his strengths and in teams that were winning every week he could have been a well above average player or even a star but as it stands he's a bit beige and certainly not worth more than $500k per year.

I think pretty wishful thinking to think he’s going to come anyway. If you’re Gold Coast why would you ever let a superstar like him go.

Unless Sharman has put on a heap of beef since last year he's still very light framed too.

Even against country footballers where he looked a level above he was still getting pushed out of the contest quite easily.

Might need a big summer or two in the gym.
If he’s quick enough on the lead the defenders will be 3m away every time anyways ;)
