According to Wilson, Van Berlo is in the mix for Richmond's job.
Sounds like kinda guy you'd shortlist because A. he's been in a premiership winning team as a coach B. currently working with a rebuilding side which is where Richmond are probably heading and C. a former captain so you know/assume he's a capable leader.

Nothing he's said as a coach has ever made me go "Wow", but he's probably got the resume that would pique some interest and i'm sure both Adam Simpson and Nicks would give him a glowing recommendation if/when asked.

Dawson had to fight against Van Berlo to play in the middle, and had to go behind his back to the head coach to get played there, if he didn't he'd still be in defense because VB didn't rate him as a mid.

Sorry - what f***ing evidence is there that this true? The story in passing where Dawson said he'd mentioned to Nicks that he'd like to be in the midfield has blown out into vB not rating him and Dawson fighting him to play in the mids.

Rob Chapman for AFL Commission was doing the rounds on 5AA this morning.

Likely be a good result for the AFC if it were to transpire.
Having worked with Chappy i can safely say I've never met someone more kissed on the arse by a fairy. The bloke doesn't even really like football 🤣

That sounds like something Chapman would have spread himself to see if the AFL will contact him.

Then again, he continuously and unfailingly, bent over to accept whatever punishment the AFL felt like inflicting on us without hesitation - so maybe they think he has earnt it.

What a quandry.
Do we prefer Carr to leave Port or VB to leave us?

There are few people less suited to that role than Chapman.

But he does fit in well with the culture of the AFL (always protect your own skin over the club, sweep issues under the rug, stay on for far too long)
Less suited? Have you ever seen how the AFL is run? He'd be a perfect fit

Yeah but at least we wouldn't have to put up with a Geelong man in the job giving them all the breaks
I'd be completely comfortable with Paddy.
As a player, he was fully committed to the AFC, the town, his team mates and when it was his time to turn a new page, he dealt with the transition with as much empathy and dignity as these things can have. I never heard him say a bad word about our team, club or "home".

Since then, I've not seen or heard anything whatsoever which is negative about his time at Adelaide. I believe he still has strong friendships at AFC.

I see Paddy as a very self confident young man who has displayed loyalty to his clubs and team mates, as well as the broader spectrum of AFL players through his lengthy AFLPA leadership role. Through all of this, his integrity across his career has not been questioned.

Furthermore, I know that during this past off season, he attended, with a senior Geelong staffer, Harvard to do one of those Harvard business short courses. This displays to me he was aiming, in retirement, at a career beyond just using a microphone for channel 7.

I've said it here before, but I have always been impressed by him for one key reason...his last game for us...best on ground for us. That final commitment said everything to me about who he is.

I hope he gets the gig he's after. I know he'll give it his best effort.

Probably in the interviews where Dawson said he trained less with the mids this year than last year in preseason, it’s been well discussed before.

I was gonna say Teague, but we were going to let him go anyway, so wouldn't say he was poached.
Don't think we wanted to lose Teague?

Yeah, I kind of forgot about Teague. I honestly couldn't think of anyone post-2013.

Lets hope so - no sanders deal and we might have a chance....

SANDERS STILL UP IN THE AIR

North Melbourne says an application to include top-10 draft prospect Ryley Sanders in its Next Generation Academy is still “pending” as rival clubs continue to raise concerns about the situation.

According to the latest AFL Next Generation Academy Active Nomination List, which was sent to clubs on July 28, North Melbourne has no eligible NGA players this year.

Kangaroos list manager Brady Rawlings told AFL Media on Wednesday that there had been no further movement in recent times regarding Sanders’ eligibility.

Rawlings said North Melbourne lodged paperwork to have Sanders included as part of its NGA “a couple of years ago” and the club has been keeping close tabs on him since.

While Sanders has been boarding at Melbourne Grammar this year, he originally hails from Tasmania and has Indigenous heritage.

Rival clubs fear that the AFL could hand over Sanders to North Melbourne as a draft pre-selection – as part of a special assistance package – if he is suddenly deemed to be NGA eligible.

Under normal rules, North Melbourne would be unable to match a bid on any NGA player inside the top-40 picks in the national draft.

“This is a big issue,” one recruiter told this column.

“The integrity of the NGA process is at stake here.”
