Geez. We really drive high standard around here. So far the players we should get include Williams, Hollands and Zerk-Thatcher.

Not one of them makes us better.

Let’s be better than this.

January

Feels like we're back to being set with our group and want honest foot soldiers to be available to back them up if injury occurs.

The fact that the bloke who has now become our best midfielder had to actually go to the coaches office and ask to be played in the midfield.. instead of the coach, and his experienced coaching staff, recognising it themselves and making the move… is a bit of a worry dontcha think?..

Makes you wonder if Dawson would still be jammed down in defense this week after playing there all year…
Nicks would have thought there is no need for Dawson in the midfield when you have Laird, Sloane, Keays.

and if he didn't go to him?
He'd played in the midfield and he'd trained in the midfield.

It must have really blown Nicks' mind when he said he wanted to move into the midfield for the Port game.

It was Inevitable that he would get more time there - the smart thing was that he went inside instead of the wing, that was the actual genius move, because he's been incredible.

You probably thought the same thing about Hinge

Sometimes it’s about seeing a player and the potential they could give to your side, even if it’s as a role player

If it doesn’t work out, whatever, as long as it comes cheap enough
Only those that didn't watch the NEAFL/VFL at all, much the same as Ben Keays some top shelf talent identification by our recruiters/list management.

Still not keen on BZT because he's not coming at a giveaway price for a player that will struggle for AFL games when Murray, Butts and Keane are fit.

Don’t mind BZT as cheap backup, maybe a straight swap for someone like Sholl who’s pretty much just depth now himself.

I’d be furious if we gave up anything more than a 3rd round pick for him in his own though.

Are you disputing the fact Dawson said he trained less in the midfield this year?

bigman also backed up with his preseason training reports that Dawson was training in defence.

How about the fact that Dawson did not play 1 minute of midfield in all our 3 preseason games?

Or when our midfield was struggling in rounds 1-2 that Nicks didn’t think he’s try him in there?

Also keep in mind the switch that was made, Hinge to defence to allow it. Hinge was also unsighted in defence in the preseason.

But keep happy clapping that this was good coaching by Nicks, the only thing he should get credit for was he listened to Dawson and wasn’t stubborn.

We chased Redman for half the year, it could very well eventuate as you said but that’s not for lack of trying

did we chase him hard enough? Even then, he's really just a plug and play replacement for Brodie smith who should be done next year. This our our version of rebuilding to a 'contending' group. We just need to replace existing pieces when their time is up. It's why we've got precious little room to move list wise. We'll draft a mid to replace Laird next, 2 years in the magoos and he'll be ready.

genius was it, well thank you, I'd posted numerous times that he should go inside because there was something Bontish about the way he moved. Note that I wasn't confident that he'd succeed, but we had to try it. So I was just a few months ahead of the great one.

Some of you guys only listen or hear what you want to hear. The fact that they had been talking for a while about Dawson joining the midfield has escaped you. That Dawson suggested on the Monday to start, I suppose convinced you guys that Nicks is an idiot. Because you guys think that the best bosses (coaches) are those that make the decision by themselves and implement them. That none of the good coaches involve not only the other coaches, but the whole squad to come up with ideas. The fact that Nicks may be one of those coaches that don't take credit for every good idea that comes up and works, makes him, in your eyes, weak and stupid.
now I don't really know that that's what happens with Nicks' coaching, but for you guys to take it from that interview that he had to be forced to put Dawson in the centre, are really drawing a longbow. The idea that they had agreed that he should go in the middle eventually, but not decided when, would not have occur to you guys.
I know that I will now have Elite coming to tell me that I cannot thing for myself. That I cannot make a decision. For my defence I will say that I'm not impetuous or, because I'm disappointed by some bad results, I lash out at someone that cannot defend himself. That I carefully consider facts before I put someone under the bus.
I would hate to see some of you guys serve in a Jury. I'm sure you would have the defendant convicted, or absolved of a crime, before considering any facts.

Someone seems flustered

I like how he had to manufacture evidence that there's no sign of to arrive at his belief. That Nicks tried Dawson in the middle for half a game early in 2022 and hadn't played him there until Jordan brought it up himself in the very week he played there is apparently meaningless. Nicks and VB had been sitting on this move for ages, just waiting for Dawson to finally realise it himself and suggest it to the them. That's obviously brilliant coaching, real strategic genius and leadership.

If it’s anything more than somewhere in the 3rd round I’d pass, but he’s OOC, so the Bombers can’t expect too much

I wouldn’t pay any more than that for a KPD this trade period

It's funny how sometimes the "negative" posters get criticized for essentially speculating on why a club has made a terrible decision, but then when a player just straight up says what happened and it's backed up by evidence that's not enough either

Have you missed the part where he trained less over the preseason, in the midfield?

Could be just a passing comment, but there was a post on the Port board a couple of days back that seemed to imply we were leading the charge on Baldwin

I mean, if he’s willing to be depth in a couple of years and doesn’t cost more than a 3rd, then sure, but I don’t see the point for us. He seems too good for that

I’d be more comfortable investing in BZT, who you know would be depth in a couple of years, rather than risk pissing Keane off

We recruited Dawson to play midfield and he struggled early in the season.
