Lets be honest ....unless you're in the inner sanctum, everyone's speculating .....pretty easy to take a couple of comments out of context & run with it to suit a narrative
A couple of comments from the player saying he trained less with the mids and he went to Nicks, then throw in where Nicks played him in the preseason, first 2 games and last year and how is that speculating?

As for a narrative, it’s clear what yours is

What other clubs are willing to give up their F1? Any picks this year are useless to GC except to match points.
What could also possibly happen is a deal which give GC a downgraded pick - say:

Pick 9 and ADL 2024 1st
for
Pick 4 and GC 2024 2nd

Then GC trade pick 9 for another future 1st

That could end up being something like, us sending pick 12 this year, maybe pick 12 next year for pick 7 this year and a pick next year in the 20s next year.

We're losing our future first and all we're getting back is moving from 12 to 7 this year and getting a pick next year we may only use to match a bid with.
1) IMO, moving up (in non-academy/FS picks) from 9 to 4 this year could be the difference between getting an A-grade midfield prospect or not
2) given Welsh’s form this year, we’d have to use our 2024 1st for him anyway. Things can change, but there’s not many forwards that have performed like him in the Champs as a 17yo

Sorry, I'm working off the assumption North get a PP, McKay compo and GC match a Walter bid. This leaves the GC pick at 7.

A first pick just evaporating in order to move up to pick 7 doesn't sit right with me, but will defer to the draft guys.

It's not like we're moving up to a top 3 pick.

I'm not fussed by Welsh points, we can get the points needed elsewhere. Our goal should be to move our future first into this draft incase Welsh is a first rounder.

Don’t think they’ll get a PP, but they’ll get access to Sanders

The route that makes most logical sense for GC trading their first to us in this draft, is dealing the F1, plus the North and GC 2nds for their first. Problem is, we can’t trade GC’s 2nd back to them, and we really don’t know anything about the compo we might or might not get for Doedee

Considering the above, plus the fact we’ll have to beat out other clubs out for that GC pick, I think we’d have to make a pretty unique and attractive offer. Moving up from our pick to GC’s pick could be the difference between getting a McKercher or D Wilson, or a prospect that’s rated 16-20 on most phantom form guides

Given the above, trading our F1 (assuming we finish top 8) for a GC F2 shouldn’t be much of a diminishing factor
