The problem with trading for Haynes is he's reportedly owed near 7 figures, even to $1.2 million in the final year of his contract, so it's going to take a team with an awful big hole in their short term salary to accommodate a trade for him.

And i'm sure we could do it by pushing $ owed back, but then we're potentially un-doing a lot of work to get our own cap in order.
He’s not a list need , doesn’t make any sense . We have great players that do same thing Worrell Hinge Michaelanny

PLUS .....he's just not worth it

I think the buzz is more around his past reputation of a couple of years back

Absolutely correct .....GWS are trying Haines in a variety of roles ....he's on BIG money and he's struggling these days
Haynes body is cooked.

Can't run & jump like he used to in his prime.

North over-paid for the calibre of player Polec was, though

As long as we don't do that

It’s ok to value a player based on a contract year if you’re offering them a contract year contract. Multiple year contracts require assessment of performance over multiple years. Years don’t have to have equal weighting, but over-valuing the contract year against those that directly preceded them is a huge mistake. North made that mistake.

I do agree nicks got attached to the safety blanket of having Dawson down back , especially when side struggling

Also think that when we traded for Dawson we had in mind him playing midfield and not just wing

Go back to round 1 2022 opening 1st quarter vs freo and I think you’ll find gun playing inside mid ( then barely again until round 3 this year )
I absolutely see him as a midfielder.

But I'm also sure that there was more than likely more rigorous discussion with our fabled (/s) selection committee than just either Nick or Dawson demanding taking credit

For a club we'll known for its spin and willingness to lie to the club, I feel we are taking too much out of words said by the coaches in a presser.

In defence of Nicks , we went from a defensive side lacking talent in 2022 to the highest scoring side in 2023 based on a huge improvement in our ball movement and yes playing Dawson in mid certainly helped

I wouldn’t call him a defensive coach overall , the important thing is Dawson is playing where he should be , I’d be pretty sure they had something like that in mind when they traded for him in the long term

I guess Nicks can’t take any credit whatsoever for the move but can take some credit to listening to his captain , that’s how I’d frame it

Can definitely take some credit for improvement in ball movement but that’s another debate
Nicks isn't a defensive coach... but wants us applying plenty of pressure... with an attacking game style. Much better than last season!

My main issue is he is too conservative in selection policy & refuses to properly manage most players during the season. It cost us as many of our players ended up playing on fumes... meanwhile the sanfl has been dominating most games.

Its not lack of awareness, it's confidence that with a pre-season he'll be back to his best next year.

Delusional given his age and history, but positive thinking. It happened for Tex as an exception to the rule.

Do you expect him to say, I'm going to be worse next year, I've only signed on to play reserves footy?

On SM-F926B using BigFooty.com mobile app

No, that would be risks nobody would suggest he should have said it. What he said was fine until he kept going and added, ‘but I’ve not had those convos and they’re years away if they were to happen’. He wouldn’t say that if those convos had occurred, so you can be certain they haven’t.

Then you have nothing. If we need links re who’s idea it was for Dawson to play midfield then it must be required to support this fantasy that Sloane will predominantly be SANFL next year. All we saw this year was 2 relative management games followed by elevation back to midfielder in the 22 as winning became more important. That doesn’t suggest anything like what the apologists are stating as being fact, it literally suggests the opposite.
Clearly, I wasn't trying to build a case.

It was a comment I recalled that gave an indication Rory may not be guaranteed a spot in 1's. There's no comment or suggestion I have heard or read that he will actually playing any games in the 2's.

What 1st round draft pick do GWS have? :p

I can safely say that I was the only person on this board who said that Dawson should be playing inside midfield , after a while 1970 agreed with me

Now everyone is pretending it was obvious

Not sure what the Kerfuffle is all about
Is he playing inside mid though, his cb clearance % suck, it’s someone else get it and get it to Jordan whatever you do.

Some of you clowns seem to be struggling with the premise that it’s not if or what you post, but where. So here’s a nice analogy for you.

Imagine there’s a new movie coming out. Something you’re really interested in and can’t wait to see it. So you go to the theatre complex, get your choc-top, popcorn and 2 litre coke (no sugar), and take your seat in the theatre.

You get through the ads, and then just as the lights dim and the anticipation builds for the start of the movie, you find that you first need to sit through a 20 minute feature film on the plight of Peruvian grasshoppers in the wet season.

You sure do support the right for indie filmmakers to create such a movie - free speech is important. You just don’t give a * about the subject matter, and really wish the cinema owners screened it in one of the 23 other theatres in the megaplex, for the 7 people in the entire population who do actually care about it to enjoy it in their own time and space.

If it helps to break it down some more, the Rumours thread is the block buster movie. The inane regurgitative posting about who decided Jordy Dawson should play midfield is the feature film on Peruvian grasshoppers.
So does this apply to all posters or only those who you don’t agree with as I don’t see you having a crack at anyone else.

That’s because he tends to be on the receiving end of the immediate clearance, from say a Laird or Crouch handball. It’s not recorded as a clearance, but is far more effective.
That’s my point, laird and crouch are the inside mids, maybe my definition is wrong.

You pay for a movie, bigfooty is free.

Jesus, get a grip! I didn't see him bringing it up, only you, so apologies there. Don't know why that is, but I definitely would have said the same thing to him had I have seen it! Anyways... I should have practised what I am about to say to you... you don't have to respond to him, you know. ;)
Now we know that’s a lie, you have never picked up on one of your fellow cheerleaders.

Do I now start referring to you as Pinocchio instead of Mary Poppins or perhaps Mary Pinocchio is more apt.

Whatevs George. I honestly didn't see his post. I hadn't been in to the thread for quite some time, and yours was the first one that popped up.

Shh ftmch is about to sit down to his movie.

It’s simple Jenny, can you honestly say you pick up on posters that you agree with? Now be honest.

Don’t get me wrong, I don’t either, but then again I don’t try to stop the other side from posting because I don’t agree with them, I counter their points because after all we are on a football forum and if I was to, I sure wouldn’t quote them and complain the topic won’t go away!

Yeah I do. Probably not often enough... but seriously, do you ever reach a "ah bugger it just let it go" point in an argument? You seriously have banged on about this for MONTHS!

Nah you don’t.

I know I should stop arguing with cheerleaders, but it’s hard because there are numerous who like to argue the same point with me. It then looks like I’m not letting go and repeating myself over and over. Perhaps you could all get together and nominate a head cheerleader and I’ll just engage with them. But can the others please not quote me and then complain when I either a) don’t respond or b) respond.

Thanks in advance.

Wait. you're telling me Nicks TALKS to players and sometimes listens to their input? How scandalous.

He certainly loved getting Rory Atkins input

(Atkins never played for the club again after this game)
