Why bother offering Crouch a 1 year deal? Seems like you either build your next midfield around him and offer 2-3 on decent coin, or you decide to refresh and tell him to canvas other offers.

That's what a 1 year deal tells Crouch. We'll keep you if no one wants you on a very team-friendly contract, but ultimately, we don't care if you go.

I think he will take our offer. I doubt other clubs offers will be any more money, just the length of contract may be an extra year.

If Crouch stays and plays all year he will get another contract.
And Sydney list manager Kinnear Beatson and head recruiter Simon Dalrymple aren't mugs, they obviously see value in another inside mid ball magnet to feed it out to excellent outside users like Errol Gulden, Braeden Campbell and lately Tom Papley and company. Looks like with the possible departure of Matt Crouch Dawson will have to go back inside unless Sam Berry comes on in 2024 or they move Hugh Bond from defence to midfield?
Yet we retain a cooked Sloane...not good.

Dawson is the first selected in our inside midfield regardless what we do. That's not a negative either. Adelaides hopes in the near future hinges on it - though we do need to find a way to be able to rest him without compromising our entire midfield setup.

Letting Matt Crouch go means we're gambling on Sam Berry and Jake Soglio in 2024 as our replacement inside midifelder. No one else will have a shot at it on our list next year (though there are a few who could in 25--26), and with Schoenberg injured. Unless we draft a man-child inside midfielder who can get 4-5 clearances a game day one.

Did something happen to laird that I don’t know about?
Dawsons best form was when laird was feeding him.

Dawson to me has looked pretty tired and not near as influential as he was earlier in the year. He is way better as the receiver than playing inside mid.

The real issue is Laird and Crouch being in the same set up whilst Dawson is also in there.
It's not a great mix.
If anything I'd look a having Laird playing more defence next year replacing Crouch when he goes to the bench. Get Laird to help with our rebound play but also ensure the midfield depth stays strong.

We all know Sloane doesn't add anything next year.

ROB, Crouch, Dawson, Pedlar first choice midfield.
Thilthorpe, Soligo, Laird, Rachele/Rankine, ????

Soligo is another that you want on the outside as the receiver not inside the contest!!

Sounds like the 1 year deal being touted isn't confirmed by this..

If we don't offer matt crouch a contract reid should be sacked. Nothing against sloane but imagine giving him a contract and not crouch.

I'd offer him 2. Like give the guy some flipping respect adelaide. He was our best mid behind dawson when he came in. Performed better than laird.

Agree .....it's a nothing position to take ....I can't even say the Club is committing to Crouch, and I'm sure he reads it the same

I can't imagine you saying, give Crouch a contract, 3 months ago .....frankly nor can I, but I won't be upset if he goes

He played similar to how he is now, after Nicks initially dropped Crouch .....was either year 1 or 2, of his tenure ....then he reverted back to type, and Nicks lost patience

Footy I.Q. off the charts and a good user....Zac Taylor is way more suited inside the contest than Soligo.
Not quick but a really good step, he will be great as that hybrid type who will get a few clearances himself but also offer a lot in general play.
