I dont think a third SA team is inevitable. The population growth in Adelaide isnt anywhere near WA, sunshine coast, Canberra, central coast etc.

And who is to say the AFL will just keep adding teams forever?

The more teams, the bigger the TV rights deal.

A healthy strong competition is irrelevant.

Arguably a healthy, strong competition and a bigger TV rights deal are connected at the hip.

If they do look at 20 teams with Tassie coming in and another for balance, surely Darwin would get a look in for a team. Then they'd have to look at 2 divisions of 10, with the top 2 in div 2 playing the bottom 2 of div 1 for promotion/relegation during finals. would keep the game interesting reducing blow outs.

What's in it for the AFL? There would be a very minor increase in eyes on TV as the Norwood fans would likely just be ex-crows fans.

They would get more value out of a new market where currently there's really no incentive to watch afl.

For example I'm sure there would be more interest and therefore investment (tv viewership) from locals in places like Canberra, Sunshine coast and central coast.

Darwin doesn't have the population to support an AFL team. Let alone the weather during winter isn't ideal for AFL week in, week out.

I doubt the AFL would ever consider promotion/ relegation, seeing it'd require a complete restructure on how clubs operate.

I do think American styled conferences is an inevitability, however. Especially as we're in a bit of a proto- phase now with schedule double ups.

I hope not, I think it's more interesting to play all teams in the league every year.
That and in Melbourne the ten teams love playing each other and wouldn't want to give that up.

Dogs interested in Doedee. Just saw this on the drafts/rumours board.
I am not fussed if they are with Worrell waiting there to do that role..but the caveat being that we need to improve our side with our own trading - not just letting our better players go . Losing players these days is par for the course, but its the continuing of bringing in of topline players that needs to happen

It is, but I think it is also an inevitability the AFL expands beyond that being viable. After all, there has been appetite to push into Rugby league heartland, as much as it has been a struggle, and of course, there is still a market for an SA/WA team to really cement in both states, on top of Tasmanias population (and ire) rising to a point where it's worth a team there.

Still, this is probably a 50 years in the future thing. I doubt it'll ever open up that clubs are privately owned which would speed this up.

Lose Doedee, bring in Himmelberg, probably leaves you equal all things considered.

Keep Doedee, bring in Himmelberg and play Worrell and Nicks would have no excuse to play Dawson down back.
My gut feel is they don't want to give Doedee the type of big deal he's looking for, which is why they're letting him go.

Those 3 + one of Murray/Butts would be the way to go I think, add in Max as the guy who can play tall/small (I think Worrell could do this too) and you've got a nice starting back 6 with someone like Parnell or Milera rounding it out.

I think Murray, Keane, Worrell, Michallanney are the future of our backline. We should cash in on Doedee this year. I would bring in one more decent KPD end of year as depth. Maybe Brennan Cox wants to come home. If Freo keep losing he may look at it.

As harsh as it sounds and might freak the slicers I think this has to be our thinking

I like Tom and if he decides to stay then welcome - but if he feels its time for him to also cash in then thank you for your service and good luck
