How do people think we're going to get an elite midfielder at this point? We're not in draft range, and are unlikely to be next year given Nicks is coaching for his career.

If we're going to put a line through anyone who has anything less than a perfect record (noting that nothing that has been said to date is even public record or proved), then we can rule out trading or otherwise acquiring one- teams do not trade them otherwise, and they're not coming here in free agency.

So what's the plan?

We can either take a risk to acquire one, or not have one.

Or are we just going to concede winning premierships for the indefinite future again?

Wouldn’t at least the remainder of the original contract stand?
Timewise yes. My concern is over the $$ amount we would be paying given we were paying about 3 players who werent even at the club at one stage

Melbourne offer to pay half but we have to pony up extra draft capital

Or

We offer to take on the contract but give up only what we have (with some small mayo added )

I think he is a game changer for us

Furious at him or the Club?
Would love to have him racking up at A.O.

The Club as Clarry is universally loved by the supporters and is one of the best players in the league. It would be similar to if McLeod or Ruccuito were traded during their prime years.

You would be in Top 4 conversations if you were able to pull this off.

Yep see what you mean, although I don’t know if we can add clauses that, if they’re not met, pushes part of the bill away from us

One scenario would be we trade with Port two seconds this year for next year’s first offer Melbourne 3 first rounders in exchange for Oliver he reunites with Burgess who he has faith in gets fresh start Melbourne gets less backlash than sending to big Victorian club we get that bull who explodes from the contest to go the classy ball users we have added

Remember the offer we made for JHF that turned into Dawson, Rachele and Rankine? Would anyone honestly say they wish we got JHF instead?

Yeah we need an elite mid but at what cost?
That’s not entirely true as it assumes we wouldn’t have got the Dawson and Rankine deals done in other ways. Rachelle would be the one we missed out on and I’d take that for JHF

Honestly the only piece of our puzzle left is an elite cream of the crop match winning X factor midfielder. Oliver has 6 seasons left and could easily be the catalyst for a successful rebuild into gf appearances.

I would not be against going all in on this. Oliver is worth it. However, the club may think there are prospects in the draft this year and next year we can't ignore, plus the trades we plan on adding.

Apparently he has an attitude problem.

WHAT IS WRONG WITH THAT?! Everyone has an attitude problem on Big Footy and this place is thriving.
I'd be very surprised Melbourne are willing to get rid of him because of an "attitude". Tends to make me think the rumours about him may have some substance and are more than just gossip.

Realistically we'd probably have to help Melb get pick 1 from WCE
No. Two firsts (one future) and McAdam is a fair trade. Melbourne can add their own picks to the pile to sweeten any deal for west coast. Plus the salary cap relief we provide Melbourne should be more than enough.

My guess is it would have to be a 3 way trade with one of the clubs with the top 3 picks to make this work. It's possible.

We also take over the 7 year contract which would have to appeal to mebourne if they are truly open to letting him go.

Imagine him in our midfield with dawson, rankine, rachele, laird, pedlar and soligo....

This might just be that elite mid we can shake loose..pay the price in a weak draft and a future pick
