If I was a betting man, I am believing this is PR campaigned managed Oliver exit for Melbourne Fans.

Oliver declared in his meeting he not only wants out but has already nominated Adelaide. His management contacted Adelaide at the height of his injury issues and enquired whether we'd be interested. Its probably been in negotiation between him and Adelaide's list management for several weeks.

Adelaide agree last week, Oliver informs Melbourne he'd like to explore a trade to Adelaide as he feels thats where he will play his best football and we can manage his hamstring issues. However he is contracted and Melbourne hold it over his head that Adelaide have to come to the party or he is staying, but they see this as an opportunity for a quick rebuild. Somehow this leaked to the media, probably by Melbourne and Oliver's manager to pressure Adelaide publicly to come to the party or they are a fool for letting this slip.

Long story short

I think Adelaide's come to the party and that's why we are seeing things like Oliver open to move etc.

If we hadn't, We'd be seeing denial headlines instead of Lyon crying.

It would not surprise me if its McAdam, 9 and F1st does get the job done. Melbourne can then package all their firsts up for WCE and whatever pick swaps they need.

Melbourne can offer 5, 9 and 13 to WCE. Surely that would have to be enough you'd think for WCE to take considering they are so desperate for talent. 1 player wont help them. 3 top 13 players is way better. Melbourne still get 2 first round picks next year. So I dont see how thats not a win/win.

The fact that Melbourne hasn't come out publicly today to deny this shows there is definitely something there. If they had no intention to trade him they would have put out a statement to squash this straight away.

Is Adelaide the only club being linked to him atm? Essendon was the only other one I have seen.

We should have Burgess,.Nicks & Dawson on the 1st plane to Melbourne to woo him. Tex too to let him know we have a forward line he can kick the ball too.

Pull out all stops even if the Dees prefer to keep him.
Rumour a couple of pages back was that they have been talking for weeks

This trade will happen, it's the cost that might hurt. High performance player coming in on huge $$$. Teammates going out to accommodate. I trust that Reid is doing his 'due diligence' here. We MAY lose Pedlar. In fact i will go insofar as to say we will LOSE Pedlar.

I am not sure who has the biggest upside here.

I would rather keep Pedlar. My opinion only.
Well, I'll go so far as to say we won't lose Pedlar.

Any statement will come out after their board meeting tonight.

First round picks, pick 1 is a first round pick, so is pick 20, but a massive difference in value. Can we stop talking about first round picks as if they are all equal because they are not.

The hand wringers - three first rounders is way over for Oliver, picks 1, 2, 3 is overs, picks in the teens is not overs and remember how far teens picks will get pushed out this year, and in a weak draft.

I don't care if we tip in all our picks this year, and next years first will be well into the teens.

Melbourne may be thinking turn Oliver into Reid but also keep pick 13. The negotiations will be three way, us, Melbourne and West Coast. West Coast may find pick 5, 9, and three good 20's picks does more for their rebuild than just Reid.

Oliver makes us a contender, if Oliver wants to come to us, throw in picks, throw in McAdam, just get it done!

WC don't want to just cop the unders for Reid later down the track like you did with JHF.

They will trade pick 1.

Yeah, I think the whole JHF was a big problem, it is why the AFL has extended top 20 to now go for 3 years on the first contract with no early breaking. It doesn't solve the problem though, if they leave after year 1 or year 3 it still makes it hard for the club that need the talent the most to rebuild in a timely manner.

I think both clubs would prefer to have a greater chance of landing someone long-term. We have a very good relationship with the Eagles, if a trade is doable I am sure it will get done without drama. It just wouldn't make sense for them to pass on Wardlaw and Sheezle last year with pick 2 and trade down to Ginbey if flight risk wasn't a major issue.

Looking at the timeline… Maybe, just maybe… Redman staying at The Dons wasnt really Redman‘s choice?..

maybe we went cold on Redman.. he took the hint.. and stayed at the bombers.

this all went down around the same that Oliver, if the rumours are true, was injured and has apparently reached out to Darren Burgess for help and, at the same time, probably vented his frustrations with the Demon’s club doctors/fitness staff etc to Darren..

Burgess informs the crows that Clarry aint happy and could be gettable.. so we went cold on Redman, saving us a $750k a year spend, and started putting all our focus and energy onto Oliver knowing we may be able to pry him loose..

i love this speculation s**t!
i think youre onto something and i said at the time I thought we pulled the pin on redman but i didnt know why

I imagine if such a phone call occurred then Burgess would not have contractually been allowed to give him advice. Possibly not even medically/fitnessy if he's not overseeing the injury.

It would have been a weird phone call. "Sorry I am not able to help you".
Again, posted on another board, that Oliver got in touch with Burgess and he put in him touch with a local physio

If he has been quoted as saying he is open to a move to Adelaide, the hope is it cuts the other clubs out and its us to negotiate a possible trade (if Melbourne are ok to trade him)

Left field, I wonder if there is a player Melbourne would like at another club that could be pried out and we could get them in on a trade with our picks..maybe trading to pick 1 for Reid is just 1 option for them. Could..and its a long shot, Ben King be shaken loose from GC to go to the Dees in a trade. Maybe 5, 9 and our F1 to GC for B King to Melbourne along with McAdam and Oliver comes to us..just speculating

I wonder if Adelaide would move Dawson to wing and half back (7th defender) if we get Oliver..

Centre group:

Milera ~ Butts/Keane ~ Hinge
Dawson ~ Laird ~ Smith
Obrien ~ Oliver ~ Crouch
Rachele ~ Walker ~ Pedlar
For someone who has me on ignore you sure do a lot of shit posts.

I am imaginig a starting midfield of Oliver, Dawson and Rankine......yeaaahhh baby

I'm liking a starting midfield of Oliver, Dawson & Pedlar next year...
Oliver doesnt just finish our rebuild and place us in Finals contention, we are a legit flag chance in 2024 with a healthy list.
