On Smillie, Dylan Alexander made an exceptional video evaluating him as a player. The point that stood out to me was the ground balls argument - for a tall midfielder to make it at AFL level, they have to be able to win ground balls. It's what separates Bontempelli, Cripps, and Green from the likes of Nash and Setterfield. Apparently Smillie is 'elite' in this category in U18s

Alexander then goes on to directly compare Smillie to Tom Green and the similarities are very promising - including the fall in form for Champs

If this guy falls to our picks we should consider ourselves very lucky.

1. Lindsay
2. Lalor/Smilie
3. Hynes
I wouldn't be surprised if SOS and Ross are keen on Lindsay, but I feel like at pick 7 its slight reach territory. He's the best kick in the draft but maybe lacking a bit of pace and tricks which would prevent him from moving inside midfield. Also pretty small in stature too

I guess the question is can we see him developing into a Jack Sinclair/Dan Houston, or is he going to become a Dylan Stephens etc

I think 7-8 is his range. Not the highest ranked but he's become my fave.

If we walked away with 3 of Lalor, Smillie, Reid, Tauru, Travaglia, Lindsay or Hynes, we should be very happy and pumped for the future

Looking forward to seeing what is in store for us over trade week & the draft
That's about my list too. I don't like Reid so I'll swap him with Hannaford for a slightly later pick.

Have you seen any stats on his CP v UP? I recall seeing some analysis more broadly that those that are <30% will generally be flops.

Has a beautiful left foot kick too.
He's the best kick in the draft and has been all year

After Dalrymple said he was going to draft more on a needs basis over pure talent, I feel like he's a real chance to get to us. Him and Nas would be so damaging

Might start his career in the McKercher half back role

I am so confused by who we should draft, that I am probably not going to post on this thread after this.

Hoping for a slider so we get one of Reid, Smillie, FoS plus another high rated mid.
Basically don't care who we get, have to trust the recruiters.
Whitlock gor our second would be good.

To me, Reid will be the bloke they talk about in a few years and say ‘if Dal Santo & Pendlebury had a baby, it’s Murphy Reid’

Bloke just makes time stand still - great decision maker & space just opens up around him with ease
