Allan is horrendous with ball in hand. I understand the point around concentrating on what a player can do rather than what they can't, but he's objectively terrible at a very important football skill.
The one thing that is very difficult to improve is overall skill level. You can do it for set shot kicking with enough routine practice but very few have managed to go from terrible to passable playing in the midfield without basically limiting themselves to handballing only. I'm a big no with either pick 7 or 8.

Allan returned for WA's match against South Australia in a 67-point victory over the Croweaters, recording 19 disposals, six tackles and five clearances in a role through midfield.

He would hold his place in the centre for the rest of the carnival to average 20.0 disposals, 3.7 clearances, 6.3 score involvements and 6.0 tackles from his trio of appearances, proving to be a viable midfield option for scouts to consider.

Flexing his power, speed and defensive traits in the engine room, Allan would soon return to Peel Thunder's side in the club's journey to the WAFL premiership, with the teenager playing 11 games at the state league level to cap off a stellar year with a flag.

Rotating through the middle, defence and on the wing, Allan was able to prove himself against experienced opposition while bringing the traits of a leader that saw him earn the respect of his teammates.

Local clubs West Coast and Fremantle will both have their eyes on Allan with draft selections in the teens, while Richmond's array of selections and Port Adelaide's place in the queue at 13th overall could see Allan land at either club.

He earns comparisons to the likes of AFL stars Hayden Young, Elliot Yeo and Josh Weddle, giving his ability to be a midfield-backline dual threat, offering run, power and aerial prowess.

I haven’t really followed him but must admit he has immense power for an 18 year old. I love Josh Weddle, if he’s like him yes please if we split our picks.

Not really fond of overlooking proven mids for a potential mid. Irrespective of attributes.

I’m hoping that we are trying to fox the dees into pick him at 5 so that one of the premier mids fall into our lap.
I didn’t want Nas because of his poor stats and inability to win much contested footy but RTB has used his attributes and strengths to suit his playing style resulting in improving our team.

I reckon Allan excels in the ‘splitter’ role. RTB wants speed on the ball.

Nas was drafted prior to RTB but he was demonstrating the same characteristics that he does today as under player.

He was a wingman/flanker that we have played in that role.

The discussions being that Allan is a back man first and a mid second are concerning to me as we haven’t really seen any high production from him as a mid in his top age season.

Nas was a wing HFF and he wasn’t exactly a prolific ball winner.

But his attributes were on show. Fantastic by foot elusive and creative.

It’s not a hugely different scenario.

We turned Nas into a top 10 HBF in the league

I think the idea being you grab the high production mid with the 1st pick and Allan with the next.

They drafted a highly touted Jefferson two years ago, he still hasn’t made his debut. So whilst a player performs at a high clip at junior level, who knows what will happen at senior level?
Question was more about what you see in Armstrong that makes him elite and suitable for our forward line alongside King and Sharman (assuming Caminiti goes back)

Nas wasn’t a high volume type though. He was a 15 touch half backer. He’s very much high volume at AFL level. He’s improved immensely and adapted to RTB’s game style.

I don’t believe Allan is a back first and mid second. He only played back in the seniors. When some of the Vic players played VFL such as FOS and Smillie did they play midfield? Genuinely asking because I don’t know.
