Unpopular opinion but I think we tend to manage our list between our 2 sides to the detriment of the AFL side
Interesting theory.

Certain re-signings do tend to make it look that way, but at the same time we added 3 best 22 players as well.

IMO we take too long to work out who's worth persisting with or not. We found out this year that Strachan wasn't the answer to any question, but we could easily have worked that out before.

I kind of agree, though I think that's more a symptom of that we seem a bit scared to make mistakes by delisting kids that have shown a little bit.

Hamil, Cook, Schoenberg, Parnell, Gollant, Himmelberg and Borlase. All players we recontraced in 23--24 for at least one year, or re-rookied and all who either regressed, stalled out badly or questionable if they're good enough. I'm not convinced that 2 of them get resigned if Geelong or Sydney were in our shoes, with the only one I'd wager is Borlase.

Rucks are different , always need that spare cheap one and they also help out the state league side as need some big blokes

Re smalls , don’t need to carry depth ones
It’s why you see multiple ruckman getting gigs at 3 or 4 clubs. Ben Hudson, Giles, Hickey, Preuss

Hell, Paul Hunter even got a second chance lol

Basically list cloggers that we have given opportunities to, but clearly aren't up to it. Should be willing to make tough calls, but we don't.

I think one way to work out who has value or not is put them on the trade table or give their managers the heads up to look elsewhere

I would hope IF there is little to no feedback maybe our own assessment needs to be looked at

On a level I do understand the desire and want by the club to be successful across all levels - but it feels very Smarty that our AFL side isnt prioritised above certain KPIs

The news Brodie Smith was staying on at the club was putrid enough but the fact that it’s on the main list even if these delistings are purely administrative is a whole new level of crap. Can’t hurt Brodie’s ego or the senior players feelings by doing that to a “club great”

We've delisted Schoenberg and Burgess with a commitment to take them in the rookie draft.
No great surprises there. I figured they wouldn't do it to Strachan.

Now, the other question is how many rookies we're upgrading? This will tell us whether we're taking Welsh in the ND or RD. Upgrade 1 = ND, 2 = RD.

really not a fan of this whole delisting senior players and putting them on the rookie list stuff. i get you're allowed to do it and strategy wise it's smart but i've never been a fan of this.

Wouldn't have minded if Strachan was one. If we're somehow gazumped for him we'd have genuine reason to pursue a better ruck prospect (imo) in Knobel. And if that doesn't pan out I don't think there'd be much difference between Strachan and a Boyd or Crossley type.

I think he's almost certain not to attract a bid at all, and we will go this route. I think Welsh is going to join the list of SANFL players watchers on this forum were dead certs to go first/second round who ended up third round, rookie draft, or undrafted - Jonty Scharenberg, Arlo Draper, there's more but I can't for the life of me remember any other names.

If we don't announce a delisting on Monday, which I think is unlikely, then I expect us to announce two rookie upgrades whenever that particular deadline arrives - Keane for certain, then a coin toss.
We’ll, you can cross this theory off your list

The rabbit's theory is still alive, until the number of rookie upgrades is confirmed.

It was always based on a nonsense - the absence of delisted senior players - but the theory itself remains viable, for now at least.
