Autopsy 40 point win over Dockers - Round 19, 2021

We are gaining consistency and self belief now. Our chances of top 4 are critical to premiership. PA face WB in round 23 and are only 3% higher on % than us. We can catch them there We are level with B but they are 9% higher than us which will be hard to breach without B slipping. Keep winning. Keep improving %.

I don't think so tbh. Top 4 gets us a double chance yes but no home final in the current environment. I would be happy to see us drop one of the next 4 and go into the finals in form and playing our best brand of footy with an anytime anywhere attitude. We can beat all above us playing our best. Confident of that.

They could definitely lose to GWS and WB. Melb could also drop games against both WC (in Perth) and Geelong.

Melbourne aren't even in the conversation since they're 3 wins ahead of us. We'd either need Cats or Port to stumble.

I liked how Brereton made his stupid comment about Franklin getting 4 weeks if he did that in the 80s, and then he tried to verbal King and then later on Lynch into agreeing with him.

Yep to Lynch's credit a long pause before answering told me he was reluctant to get on board with Brereton's tripe.

It is not going to cut it if he is just doing that. There are at least 3 others currently in the side that

Only twice since 1997. All teams put peak effort in. It's difficult to sustain a charge because of that without having two bites. We have managed injury better than any other team so that will help too but I still think it's ideal a top 4 berth

That's 1 in 44 teams. And one of the wins was the umpires cheating

Just got back from October. The cup unveiling at Lakeside Oval was a little underwhelming because of crowd restrictions and there was still a feeling of anger among the fans as we had to beat both the Bulldogs and the men in green to win it. Horse was in good spirits and Heeney was wearing both his premiership medal and his Norm Smith medal. Rampe, the only one of our skippers who hadn't won a flag, got to hold the cup aloft. All in all a good day, as was the Saturday before it. So worth keeping in mind that although we lose by 3 points next week, it will be only short-term suffering.

We had a below par game and won by 40 points. I think that's a very good sign. Need to switch on earlier though. Very sluggish starts.

We started to get the upper hand before Fyfe and Walters got hurt but would have been an arm wrestle if they stayed on imo. Still would have won but not playing as well as we could would have wold have made it alot tougher.

6 points ahead is 1.5 games..

If they lose 2/4 and they probably miss the top 4.

Sorry yes i was looking at an un-updated ladder for us, thought it was 2.5.

Yeah but if we aren’t getting a home final anyway, we’d still want the double chance insurance.

Think the competition is too even to win 4 on the trot to win the flag.

You did not mention the small crowd there to celebrate Buddy's 1000th goal to seal the game. Precise lead up kick by Gulden threaded the needle and hit him on the chest. I had tears streaming down my face.

Even though the sample size is small you can see the use he's already putting his skills too. As he improves his defensive skills he will only get better. Sure he will drop the odd clanger. So what?
The big question in my mind is "what position will he be playing in our next premiership side?".

off halfback ... it's only a few months away

I think Dermie was just joshing about the 4 weeks, but he did say a week I think.. Its King who keeps trying to get Franklin suspended, he's been doing it all year. He even raised suspicion about the earlier contest when Franklin hit a pack hard and hurt someone. He's a joke.

Agreed. Just tick them off as you go.

also, let these other teams worry about us ... let those top five look over their shoulder each week, check our results and start hoping like heck we don't make the top four ...
let them note heeney's form today, or that we have 2-3 of our best still to come back in, or that we're already a better side than the one the vic media were drooling over first four rounds, then gave up on ... or that gulden is no flash in the pan, that mcinerney and blakey and dawson and florent and hewett are all worth a double take ("hey, when did those guys suddenly become so good!?!") ... let them all shake their heads and say, again: "tom hickey!!!"

I didn't see you there Rusty! Should've let me know we could've had a beer at your (former) namesake and this board's favourite drinking/fighting establishment.

Still cant believe it Blakey off the HB who would of thought it.

Not to brag but I suggested it might be a good move before he was dropped. Frankly I'm surprised we didn't all think of it earlier since it makes so much sense with hindsight. Explosive speed, grunt, penetrating (if not always perfectly directed) kicking, tall but not quite solid enough to be a true key position player... that's got HBF written all over it, and with Aliir gone there was the perfect gap.

I think Dermie went harder. He could not stop talking about it and then backed over everything he previously said. He was setting the scene for others. He wants to be quoted tomorrow in the press.

I'll forgive Brereton. I get grumpy too when I go on national TV with my hair looking like I've just woken up in a garbage bin after a big night.

Looked out for you. It was rowdy there at the watering hole for a small crowd. A few celebratory ;) drinks were had I admit.
