Geez we must have got a ride tonight, won the free kick count 24-21. Disgraceful.
Did you watch the game? Wasn’t a ride, that’d be unfair to say but there were calls made in favour of the Tigers in the 4th that simply weren’t paid the other way.

Main one being Dusty in the goal square with his seemingly blatant ITB that was missed. Granted, I haven’t rewatched it but it looked bad on the first watch.

It's well documented that Richmond members dislike Thursday night games. Along with Sunday Twilight. No suprise

I would imagine it's a lot more than Richmond members. There is absolutely zero chance of me going to a game at that time.

Unless you live very, very close to the ground, it's just too difficult with any and all combinations of work/family/children/commute.

How come Robbie Gray didn't play?

Went with my dad tonight. Quite a hike given I live in the Dandenong ranges. Got home at about 2315.

I miss afternoon games. Feel like I never get to take my oldest kid (8) to games because it's simply too late for him. Heck even my dad finds it a bit too late at his age. It's rough leaving my wife home with our 4 children (youngest 11w) knowing that she has to do all of the dinner, bath, bed routine etc without help.

Bottom line is people don't want Thursday night footy, cold or not, and the adjudication is turning fans away by ruining the spectacle.

Lots of crap decisions tonight going both ways but probably in the Tiges favour somewhat. Truth be told I would rather be on the receiving end of a better umpired game than the receiving end of a poorly umpired game. They call the softest crap and don't reward HTB enough. Game has gone weak as pee.

You don't. As stated (and analysed on plenty of footy shows) your differential is almost entirely due to your team giving away professional frees to hold up play.

I don't particularly hate Richmond either. In fact, I don't particularly hate any club, because that would mean I waste my time thinking about them.

It's only Richmond supporters that believe they get a rough ride.
Here we go with the WC supporters nonsense again:

AFL Tables - Free Kicks

Current season: Richmond has received the least free kicks (214) and has given away the second most (279), dead last in free kick differential.

2021 season: received the fewest free kicks (376), dead last in free kick differential again.

How about combining the numbers of the past five completed footy seasons (2017-2021):

The AFL free kick ladder of the last five years

In this five year period, not only we gave by far the most free kicks away, we were also bottom five when it came to free kicks received. The last one and a half seasons-including the current one- this trend seems to have become even worse.

If you are so knowledgeable about the Richmond playing style, can you please explain to us what part of this style generates so few free kicks for, being awarded by the umpires? A team playing a physical game-not keepings off- should be at the receiving end of infringements as well, more often than not.

But, you know, cool story you have there. Keep repeating it if it makes you feel any better...

I wouid say it is due to the speed and skills of your side. When we have beaten you, we have recieved tons of free kicks for holding the ball because you were trying to run and gun (and failed). When the run and gun works (which was often) you create space so you're not getting into as many contests that would risk a free kick. Even in those games, where we absolutely smashed you in the contest, with huge possession differentials, we still only just got over the line because you got alot of slingshot goals. Riewoldt/ Lynch are lead up forwards, which means they get space on their defenders unlike a dixon/ Tom Hawkins who are more stationary and force more contests.

Add in the blatant throwing that gets ignored

Watching presser. Hinkley getting smashed on concussion f.up and both his eyes are blinking very fast.

Yep. 7 of the 11 Richmond goals came as a result of play from questionable calls in the Tigers favour.

If I were a neutral, I’d say you get screwed over enough that its about time you got the good end for once.
but I’m not.

Hardly touched him, port bloke slipped over. Watch it again.

Fair post. Agree I would have been pissed but that’s usually us every single week so we were due a good one for once.

Maybe the AFL should look into letting the public in for free in the last quarter to fill up the empty seats. They used to do that at cricket matches back in the day. Last half hour was free to public
Pretty sure the AFL did that back in the early/mid 90's too

Ironic coming from a Collingwood supporter

We’ve also taken a look at the 50-metre penalties, which has been a hot topic in 2022.

Richmond has given away a massive 28, double the amount of the next.
You'd think that says a lot about Richmond.

TLDR.

Best to stay out of gameday threads at 2am mate. Everybody's cooled their jets within 30 minutes of the game being over.

I thought we got away with one but then had a look at the tv replay in the 3121 area and saw the Port player slipped over so I was OK with that.

Gees,Richmond finally get some iffy ones go our way which is rare as hen’s teeth for our club and the whole World is in uproar.

There was a 2 goal play where Richmond should have had a free for htb twice in the forward line then it went up the other end for a Port goal.

I get the Sunday twilight thing, Hate them myself. But our little 50k member club got 47000 to a Sunday twilight game last week. I thought I read Richmond had over 100,000 members. Doesn't seem right.

On Pixel 4a using BigFooty.com mobile app
Richmond have the biggest membership and lead in match day attendance. Seems about right.

Freezing midweek night. Low attendance is no surprise at all.
