With four games left to go in the 2017 season, Collingwood’s chances of finals are pretty much gone. While Collingwood were outsiders against the Crows last week, Magpie fans couldn’t help but feel disappointed with the draw against the Crows. For North, 2017 was always meant to be a rebuilding year. To their credit, North have rarely been smashed in any of their games, and many positives, such as the emergence of Ben Brown have given Kangaroos fans some hopes for the future.
Collingwood
Halfway through the third quarter, the finals pulse was beating for the Magpies. They were dismantling the red hot Crows, every player was playing their role, and the forward line that had been dysfunctional all season had suddenly clicked. However, it all went south for the Magpies after that. The Crows managed to rally, and salvage a draw with a kick after the siren. If Magpies fans had been told before the Crows game that the match would end in a draw, most fans would have been delighted. But, to many fans after the game, the draw felt much more like a loss. One man who stood out for the Magpies last week was Daniel Wells. Sometimes criticized by various footy voices that he is being overpaid, Wells showed why he’s on the big dollars with one of the best performances all season by any player. While Collingwood stagnated in the second half, Wells kept on rallying, and tried to give the Magpies some momentum. While the win was not to be, Wells further showed why he received a big contract from the Collingwood football club.
Coming into today, Collingwood’s hopes for finals are pretty much extinguished. If they are any hope to make finals, they need to win every game for the year, and hope that other sides falter. If Collingwood are to beat the North Melbourne Kangaroos, the obvious man to stop is Ben Brown. Brown is having a career year, and is finally coming of age as a player. Brown is known for his deadeye set shot, and his long powerful leads. Lyden Dunn will most likely be on Brown, but it will be a team effort to stop Brown.
North Melbourne
On paper, season 2017 has been quite poor for Brad Scott’s men. After a significant trim of the list at the end of 2016, the Kangaroos have struggled mightily. Sitting at the bottom end of the ladder. However, similar to the Magpies, North Melbourne have rarely suffered big losses to other sides. A stunning win against the top eight fancies in the Demons last week showed that North could compete with good sides, and possibly indicates that the side will need a quick rebuild in order to rebound up the ladder.
One man to watch for the Kangaroos is Todd Goldstein. After a magnificent 2015, and a consistent 2016, Goldstein has struggled in 2017. Poor form has meant that he has been relegated to the reserves to try and build up some form. His first matchup after his stint in the reserves won’t be an easy task, coming up against Brodie Grundy. While in the past this would have been a big matchup talked up by the press coming into the game, it is still significant to how the game will sway.

If we win…
We go to 12th. And we’ll be 1.5 games outside the eight.
If we lose…
We fall to 14th
Tip
Judging how the Magpies played last week, you would think they would easily be able to handle the Kangaroos. However, the Magpies are wildly inconsistent, and North are known to cause an upset or two. It will be a titanic struggle at Etihad.
Magpies by 10 points.
