Is anyone at Arden St? Is nothing happening yet?? Is Clarko late for work on his first day?!? Where’s all the updates?

He’s probably popping the champagne corks after that lawyers statement!

I’m thinking of heading to Arden Street around lunchtime.

It’s the most damning allegation off the table for AFL investigation.

I wonder if the rest of the Egan report and the Jackson article are going to unravel and turn out to be nothing more than unsubstantiated allegations that nobody will be prepared to be questioned on.
You're right that it takes the abortion episode out of the process, and with it, the worst claims are no longer under investigation.
But I'm not sure how the allegations can unravel if they can't be properly tested. It just seems that a resolution has become impossible.

I mean the credibility of the report and article unravels if the allegations can’t be tested.

Rusty ain't getting another Walkley for this one.

Again, just a joke that two days isn't enough for Amy to respond to the ToR but 24 hours was enough for Clarko to respond to the allegations.

I don't doubt that al Clarko is ruthless in his endeavours to get any advantage he can and to have his squad be as professional as any club in any sport. And would push the boundaries of acceptable behaviour.

It is a strange world professional sport. I can eat McDonalds, get on the beer, heck down a cheap nasty bottle of red. Get myself real pissy and front up to work the very next day without a worry in the world about someone questioning my ability to perform my role. Or to have someone question me about my afterhours behaviour.

Hell I can go to the Pub tonight and sink 4 schooners, no one is taking my pic and uploading it to the Instagram or some such. No one would give a shit and rightly so.

But in the world of elite athletes that isn't acceptable.

I know one of our guys who missed the weeks training but declared himself fit to play in the upcoming game (last season). Was apparently mortified he wasn't selected.

He had a heated chat about it and was told who do you think you are, you're hardly best 22. You have no runs on the board.
He's in his last year of contract in 23. And no not LDU or McKay or Mahony.

While I am not suggesting these unnamed 3 players were out drinking or taking drugs or not training to their best. It makes life very interesting for all listed footballers moving forward.

Is it racist to expect the same of every player on the list? Or should there be different expectations depending on your beliefs? I am a Trappist Pescatarian, recent convert.

Not even sure what I can and can't do, but I am hoping training hard is off the agenda. Ms Sharon will be disappointed, but my beliefs are well important to me.

You know I'm going straight to the player contract list now....

Amy's story is going to get destroyed now.

It was always going to come under serious questioning but without her there to contextualise it, it's going to be ugly.

Well done Phil and Russell. You really put her first.

Is said player still on our list?

North Melbourne coach Alastair Clarkson says there is more “depth and history” to some of the serious allegations made against him by some former Hawthorn players and their families.

Clarkson arrived at North’s Arden St headquarters for his first day in charge at the club on Wednesday determined to clear his name in the wake of bombshell allegations about mistreatment of First Nations players and their family members.

Clarkson said he looked forward to telling his version of events and providing some context to the contested claims when the league’s investigation commences this month.

“I’d be very, very surprised if weren’t able to put a strong case forward that these allegations have been reported in a different way to what we saw them when we were at the club,” Clarkson said.

“I really want to get through the investigation with the AFL.

“It has been a tough four or five weeks for all of us, and what we do know is that we always had the care of our players right at the highest priority of our football club.

“There is a lot more depth and history to what has transpired, but we will get a chance in the investigation to outline that.”

Media hatchet job. Fox sports leads with this. Barely know he’d started with the club. This whole saga stinks of hidden agendas.

I’ve heard a couple of versions of the abortion story and quite frankly I believe that “Amy” is speaking on third hand knowledge. My understanding is the player approached the club for help as he didn’t think both personally or professionally he was ready for children. The club went through scenarios and what they could offer in support and termination was mentioned and had he thought about that as an option.
Neither Clarkson or Fagan were present at this time and certainly neither of them said the words about abortion that have been alleged.

I think the biggest take away currently is that the accusers do not appear to want to back up their claims and the accused are quite happy to tell their story in ANY forum. I think that tells you all you need to know especially if applying the standard innocent until proven guilty mantra.

Clarkson, who officially began as North Melbourne coach on Wednesday, said he was ready to try and clear his name.

“We will work through that with the AFL investigation. All we do know is that there have been three or four clubs in the competition over the last 20 years that have been really, really strong clubs, really, really successful clubs, and those clubs have had magnificent cultures, and Hawthorn has been one of those,” Clarkson said at the Kangaroos’ home base at Arden St.

“So, I would be very, very surprised if we weren’t able to put a really, really strong case forward that these allegations have been reported a different way than we saw them when we were at the club.”

The four-time premiership coach said there was greater context to the allegations which have been aired.

“There is a lot more depth and history to what has transpired. We will get the chance in the investigation to outline that,” he said.

This seems most plausible. He was also clearly scared of her family top.

Heard a very similar story early days. Context is critical.

This is the critical piece. There is also further "depth" behind why he didn't think he was ready & felt the need to approach the club about it.

How the story has been told by Jackson & co, is that the club, specifically Clarkson & Fagan took it upon themselves to interject into the players lives, making extremely inappropriate demands, which just isn't true.

I don’t trust the AFL or their sponsored enquires into anything, so I don’t blame anyone for staying out of them and not wanting to give them a veneer of independence.

It‘s just ludicrous and sad that the only two options for allegations like this seem to be 1. An AFL or club PR exercise that is 99.99% likely to find nothing happened that a bit of language around reflection and improvement won’t fix, and 2. A review where all stories are recorded without investigation or judgement, and no claims can be questioned. Is there seriously no body or environment that could deal with serious allegations in this industry with sensitivity, independence and appropriate rigour? How often does this need to happen before a suitable mechanism is available?

The Yoo-Rook Commission is the best place for this one.

I’m probably overlooking something, but wasn’t work safety examining this?
