Yeah exactly what I’ve been thinking hence my post. I think Shezzel had 38 today? We know the Dogs numbers last week but it’s quite common for midfielders to rack up 30 plus. Our highest was 23 I think and most were in the teens and we so far haven’t lost a game (will probably change next week)
Not relying on anyone specifically in the midfield, yet still winning is master class coaching.
Sheezel had about 5 disposals that actually mattered in this match, it's just wracking up cheap nothing possessions.

He can go tell mommy he had a good game now though.

I do feel for North fans today. They deserve better than this.
Their 19th trip to Geelong since Collingwood last ventured down here and they have to watch that.

Forced to trade draft concessions and ending up with list cloggers like D.Stephens, Fisher and Tucker. No leadership out of their captains. Scott brushed off the ball and outrun by Neale. Stephenson on good money played like a useless turd in the ressies.

Mid rebuild and have a VFL standard defence, their mids are beaten by our cobbled together midfield at clearances. Skill atrocious, ability to defend on turnover non-existent.

Their fanbase deserve better, and we did what we were expected to.
Prime example today why our method of rebuilding-on-the-run is better than the cut to the bone scorched earth restart North have to endure. They are still miles off it, sadly.

Shoutout to the person who said this would be a good game to lose for the club 😉
It gets a bit tiresome when certain posters here on Geelong Big Footy come up with the old cliché of 'this is the type of game we lose'. Yeah, we may lose the odd game we should win but our win to loss ratio over the past 20 years which by the way has been far superior to any other AFL club and of which many members from other clubs would 'kill for' suggests such a comment is made by a 'perennial negative person'.... even if they are a Geelong Footy Club Member.

Could be that Clarko is just dialing it in for the Super

He is playing his role nicely.

I still reckon he is a good chance of being out once Danger and Guthrie both return.

But he is playing much better than last year.

Fighting for a spot with Atkins imo.

Nope. Atkins and Clark first out based on this season.

Guthrie doesn't deserve to pull out an inform player either. He has runs on the board but hasn't played since April last year. Will be over a year out of footy once he's back.

Even Hawthorn supporters are coming around to that belief.

Saw a couple recently wondering where they'd be if they had just kept the picks, and had the players mentored by Mitchell, Hodge, Smith, Roughy etc for a few years while they developed, like we've done for so long.

Instead, Crazy Clarko goes and trades the world for B-Graders in Mitchell, O'Meara, & Wingard, and then S Mitchell comes in and is forced to gut the list full of spuds.

Real sliding doors moment for them.

SPOT ON Footy_Fan2007: The 'repeated short kicking' by North today is total BS and so hard to watch and is no way to teach a young and inexperienced team to play footy no matter how good these kids may or may-not potentially be, Clarko's coaching at present is a effen disgrace.

Parfitt was good again hey? 😉

As an aside, that Eddie Ford kid sums up everything that's wrong with Norf at the moment.

You're 80 points down and telling a champion of the game in Mitch Duncan how good you're going. Cornes called it out last year, it's laughable.

It's a team of individuals, they won't win anything until they realise that winning and getting 10 touches is better than losing but kicking 3.

Wouldn't last a day at Geelong with that attitude.

I feel for their talented youngsters. They've gotta get their wins where they can I guess. Lay the blame with the coaches.

There is a story behind that it goes back a few years,it's not what it seems it's a bit boring now but was seen as a good thing.

Whilst we did beat a lowly ranked side today the signs were very encouraging. It team is in a strong position with depth across the board and players returning from injuries, which is always a big boost. Managing this depth effectively will help maintain momentum through the season, especially with the emergence of new talents and the return of experienced players.

- Patrick Dangerfield, Tom Hawkins, Cam Guthrie, Kolo and Rohan are seasoned players who will be added to the team as they regain their touch. Balancing their game time with emerging talents will be important to keep the team fresh and competitive.

  • Neale and O'Sullivan look like they may be the future bookends for the team. Neale also showed he can handle himself in the ruck which is a great advantage. They need game time and experience.
  • Parfitt has regained his form and Bowes is super efficient.
  • Holmes and Miers are both stepping up to top-tier status.
  • Cameron could be the best player in the AFL

Conway, Knevitt, Mullins, Stevens, Humphries and others are all players pushing for spots indicates a healthy internal competition. Rotating them into the side when matches allow could be beneficial. (Humphries is my sleeper).

Our strategy moving forward will heavily use a rotation policy to help manage fatigue. It will also add the enthusiasm of our youth with our experienced players. Our coaching team changes also appear to be of great benefit. It appears that we are well-positioned for the season ahead! Proud of the boys.

One of the pleasing things is surely how even of a contribution we're seeing across the board, and not simply a reliance on a handful to get the job done each week

North had the top 4 disposal winners on the ground, they also had 4 players with double figure marks and it was Sheezel leading the way in both those stats with 38 disposals & 15 marks - but surely the key question is how many of those disposals were damaging & were we troubled with those many marks being taken? At the end of the match, for the amount of time he got his hands on the ball, Sheezel finished with just 1 goal, 2 goal assists, a total of 5 score involvements and 525m gained

Compare that with us, and our leading disposal winner was Holmes - finished with 2 goals, 6 score involvements and a lazy game high 616m gained
Our leading mark taker was Merrick with 9, including a few really strong marks and he also got on the scoreboard with 1.1 and 6 score involvements himself

And the following is a really good example of the saying, "don't count your touches but make your touches count" - Ollie Henry only had the 8 touches today (6 kicks & 2 handballs), he kicked 1.1, had 4 goal assists and 8 score involvements. So everytime Ollie got his hands on the ball today, we put a score on the board - not sure you can ask for much more from your young forward

So sure, we didn't necessarily win the head to head of various statistics, but we made sure what we did with the ball counted

Barely remember the 1989 GF after drowning my sorrows as a 15 yo 🤪

I remember going to the 95 GF as an 11yr old - barely remember the match, but do remember going to Town Hall that evening to thank the team for the season

Maybe it would have been different if we had won
