O'Meara was pick 10 and second, that's closer to selling the farm than it is moneyball.
And the pick 10 they gave was obtained from the Saints which cost them picks 23, 36 and a future first which ended up being pick 7 itself. So he cost them pick 7, 23, 36 and a future 2nd in total.

To be fair he had us home in 2022 months out, way before anyone else.

But when he is wrong, he just doubles down on it constantly.
It took outlandish statistics for him to get there though, especially from his mates at champion data.

I don't believe we were the best team since the '07 Cats, but statically we were, and Kingy lives and dies by that sword most of the time.

Hence why by about August he was saying it would take a 'freak event' (E.g a Mason Cox prelim) for us not to win it.

It all started in 2011 with him. Cats supporters haven't haven't let him forget him saying we were the third best team in it and how "they can't win it" despite literally being in the GF at the time.

Ever since then he's been against us, which speaks to a man who got it wrong over and over, and doesn't like being reminded of it.

I remember going to the 95 GF as an 11yr old - barely remember the match, but do remember going to Town Hall that evening to thank the team for the season

Maybe it would have been different if we had won
I remember going to the 92 and 94 GFs.

Went back to Gtown to attend (subdued) after match supporter events.

To say thanks.

I couldn't face 95 live. But that was gut wrenching..... add in the Davis last Q in 2005) .............

The pay back from the club to all those supporters has lifted the 89, 92, 94, 95, (2005) depression.

AND MORE.

You get your name permanently on your locker at 200 don't you? Onya Stanley:thumbsu:

Stanley currently and 'amazingly' is playing the best football of his career as he doesn't get pushed around in contests nearly as much as he has in the past which disappointingly in days past included every once and awhile by midget ruckman. The other really pleasing aspect with Reece at present is that he's found 'extra sustained energy' in that he's continually jumping with aggression from one contest to the next and it's no coincidence the Cats mid-field is leading in 'points scored' in the entire AFL from centre bounces as Reece continues to be a constant and dangerous threat..... WELL DONE REECE and keep it up.

PS - Young Toby Conway's emergence as a potential top class ruckman has been extremely helpful to Reece and in many ways. One it keeps him honest but also Reece has been for sometime now helping Toby with his craft as the two of them compete in inter-club hit-outs and sessions, knowing in time Reece will be passing the baton over to Toby. But hey who knows, hopefully the two of them may work successfully in tandem together in a few games before Reece finally hangs up his boots.

Maybe someone can also have a word to him about trying to take mark of the year every week..

Wonder if at 3/4 time of someone showed a few of the boys this effort from Willis in the VFL, and it inspired a few of them to not allow our best mark of the season to be from the lower level

Christ I forgot just how stupid that was

Fun fact:

Gold Coast used the pick 10 on…

(And the 2nd rounder became Liam Ryan for West Coast)

It's somewhat interesting that after our first couple of matches there was some comments about Mannagh maybe being a bit goal hungry and not "playing the Geelong way" - I would suggest Henry's effort on the goal line was more goal hungry than anything we saw from Mannagh, but not a lot of commentary about it

That doesn't mean we omit him next week, but maybe we need to realise the game is full of split second decisions and the importance is watching how players learn from decisions they've made which may not have been the best option

Ollie Henry had a team high 4 goal assists today.

I’ll cut him some slack with that marking attempt because he was backing back and he wouldn’t have been sure if it was going through or not… it was very close to the post… So I’m ok with him going for it.

It would be a different story if it was going straight through the middle, but it wasn’t.

Parfitt was good again hey? 😉
Not sure why every decent game he plays the fact he's been criticised prior is either directly mentioned or indirectly implied.
This is all anyone has asked of him. To contribute to an AFL standard.

This is the base level for an AFL midfielder and every week he reaches that he's helping the team.
Started the round with 60 in 3 at 20 a game, and top 10 in the competition at tackles (9 per game). Ends the round at 20 per game and likely still high up in tackles.

ATM he's 7th at the club for average disposals, 5th from midfielders. That's with Bowes being lower atm due to a sub start, doubt that stays that way for long.

So where we're at is that there will soon, with any luck with injuries, be a spot squeeze.
Dangerfield, Kolodjashnij and Hawkins replace Neale, O'Sullivan and Clark next week. Who gets chopped in 1-3 weeks from now when Guthrie comes in is anyone's guess.

Could be Brandon, could be O'Connor, could be Atkins.
Wouldn't have thought there'd be many other candidates tbh.

Sheezel had about 5 disposals that actually mattered in this match, it's just wracking up cheap nothing possessions.

He can go tell mommy he had a good game now though.
Yet still managed 2 goal assists, from bullet passes I50, and kicked a goal himself.
3 of 10 goals coming as a result of Sheezel.

Folly to suggest anything other than he played a good game.
One of the few for North to do so.

Now do Bruhn 😉

Parf is going nowhere except where he has been the past 4 games.
Guth, who I love, will need to earn his spot back via the 2's imho

As per today's AFL record.

11th Centre Clearance Diff.
18th (last) stoppage clearance Diff.

Leading to overall Clearance Diff (via footwire) of 17th.

As per record today prior to round Bruhn (8th) league rank for stoppage clearances per game.
Given we're shit at clearances to have someone top 10 in the comp at a clearance metric shows his worth.

FWIW among 15 metrics (top 10) listed we had 2 players make lists which is abysmal. Parfitt (2nd) tackles the other.

He won't.
At most he'll play 1 VFL game to dust off cobwebs and will walk straight back into the lineup. As he should IMO.

I think it’s fair to acknowledge when someone who you’ve been vitriolic in your criticism has started the season in fine form.

I’m not sure when both Dangerfield and C.Guthrie are fit and available how we will structure our midfield assuming everyone else is available. At the moment though Atkins and Clark are probably the most likely to go on current form.

That's it - one game (minimum), so not next week. We need both Parf and Atkins at their tackling and high pressure best next week. Not even sure Guth is ready for next week anyway.

Agree for the most part, but I can't see Guth just walking into the side. He'll need a game in the VFL at minimum, preferably a couple more.

Interrupted pre-season last year, didn't look right, then got injured and was out for virtually the whole year.

Has a great pre-season this year, then goes down literally 5 seconds into a praccy match.

If we're going to go deep this year we'll need him at his best. It's one of the few situations where I hope we're overly cautious tbh.

We can't afford to to just throw him in as the last two years have shown it doesn't work.
