I remember going to the 95 GF as an 11yr old - barely remember the match, but do remember going to Town Hall that evening to thank the team for the season

Maybe it would have been different if we had won
Yeah, probably sticks in her mind as it was our first flag as well. So sure there would have been big celebrations.

One of the pleasing things is surely how even of a contribution we're seeing across the board, and not simply a reliance on a handful to get the job done each week

North had the top 4 disposal winners on the ground, they also had 4 players with double figure marks and it was Sheezel leading the way in both those stats with 38 disposals & 15 marks - but surely the key question is how many of those disposals were damaging & were we troubled with those many marks being taken? At the end of the match, for the amount of time he got his hands on the ball, Sheezel finished with just 1 goal, 2 goal assists, a total of 5 score involvements and 525m gained

Compare that with us, and our leading disposal winner was Holmes - finished with 2 goals, 6 score involvements and a lazy game high 616m gained
Our leading mark taker was Merrick with 9, including a few really strong marks and he also got on the scoreboard with 1.1 and 6 score involvements himself

And the following is a really good example of the saying, "don't count your touches but make your touches count" - Ollie Henry only had the 8 touches today (6 kicks & 2 handballs), he kicked 1.1, had 4 goal assists and 8 score involvements. So everytime Ollie got his hands on the ball today, we put a score on the board - not sure you can ask for much more from your young forward

So sure, we didn't necessarily win the head to head of various statistics, but we made sure what we did with the ball counted

Ollie even got his hands on the ball when he shouldn’t have! (Thought he should have had better awareness in that situation…looked a bit selfish).

But agree with your post. We are currently getting a very even contributions from nearly all our players. We look fit and hungry again. But we haven’t beaten much yet. The next 3 weeks will show us where we are really at.

That passage frustrated me - it looked like Ollie was going to shepherd the ball through and then made a late decision to go for the mark

I'm glad it didn't cost us anything more than a chance to boost percentage a little, but I'm sure during match review it'll be discussed with Ollie and the importance of spacial awareness

Duncan didn’t look overly impressed.

Instead, Crazy Clarko goes and trades the world for B-Graders in Mitchell, O'Meara, & Wingard
To be fair, he tried to moneyball his way through it with Patton, O'Meara, Vickery and Scully, only for all of them to basically fall apart.

It's not just Clarko - Gunston was a stupid, stupid decision.

O'Meara was pick 10 and second, that's closer to selling the farm than it is moneyball.

It's somewhat interesting that after our first couple of matches there was some comments about Mannagh maybe being a bit goal hungry and not "playing the Geelong way" - I would suggest Henry's effort on the goal line was more goal hungry than anything we saw from Mannagh, but not a lot of commentary about it

That doesn't mean we omit him next week, but maybe we need to realise the game is full of split second decisions and the importance is watching how players learn from decisions they've made which may not have been the best option

I thought both Ollies were a bit to keen to get on the scoreboard at times pressure for spots can work both ways there was probably the thought that someone misses out next week I don't want it to be me a goal on the board might help.
