That's it - one game (minimum), so not next week. We need both Parf and Atkins at their tackling and high pressure best next week. Not even sure Guth is ready for next week anyway.
If he plays VFL this week, I'd say the Port game would be a good game to aim for.

Unfortunately, we don't have a soft kill until Richmond in 6 weeks, so he's going to get a baptism of fire regardless, but a game at home on the smaller ground with a few weeks to get some touch/fitness back would appear the best option to minimise that.

I think it’s fair to acknowledge when someone who you’ve been vitriolic in your criticism has started the season in fine form.
and to be fair I have. I should not have to keep doing it every week.
I haven't expected that of people critical of JK.

Crows Rd.2

Credit where it is due. Parfitt was good tonight.

Fair suck of the sauce bottle.
I have given praise this season.

I never said he was ready.

Not sure why every decent game he plays the fact he's been criticised prior is either directly mentioned or indirectly implied.
This is all anyone has asked of him. To contribute to an AFL standard.

This is the base level for an AFL midfielder and every week he reaches that he's helping the team.
Started the round with 60 in 3 at 20 a game, and top 10 in the competition at tackles (9 per game). Ends the round at 20 per game and likely still high up in tackles.
Sure, but you're overlooking the fact that Geelong's centre square mids get stuff-all game time - usually between 65 and 70%.

Yes, someone like LDU got more touches - but he also played 85% of the game, same as the Bont, Treloar and Libba last week.

Parfitt played 68%. 20 touches at 68% is equivalent to 25 at a "standard" game length of 85%.

Yes, but the major issue is if we have an injury in the first quarter and his body can't take a full game.

Sure. And I'd prefer him to build up match fitness by playing a half in the magooz rather than a quarter in the seniors. But it's a useful option for the club to have nevertheless.

Not overlooking. Just not finding particularly relevant.

I do feel for North fans today. They deserve better than this.
Their 19th trip to Geelong since Collingwood last ventured down here and they have to watch that.

Forced to trade draft concessions and ending up with list cloggers like D.Stephens, Fisher and Tucker. No leadership out of their captains. Scott brushed off the ball and outrun by Neale. Stephenson on good money played like a useless turd in the ressies.

Mid rebuild and have a VFL standard defence, their mids are beaten by our cobbled together midfield at clearances. Skill atrocious, ability to defend on turnover non-existent.

Their fanbase deserve better, and we did what we were expected to.
Prime example today why our method of rebuilding-on-the-run is better than the cut to the bone scorched earth restart North have to endure. They are still miles off it, sadly.
To be totally fair to North, they've had a horror start to the season: GWS in Sydney, Fremantle, Carlton, Brisbane, and us at KP.

3 Prelim finalists, a rising team, and us at home is always a huge ask. Only Freo would be pencilled in as maybe a 50-50 game, all others they'd have started massive underdogs.

If they'd had WCE, Richmond, Hawthorn, Suns at Marvel, and (say) Essendon they might be 3-2 and we'd be talking about their resurgence.

That is an insane take. Sheezel was sublime.
No he wasn’t, he got a total of 7 Contested possessions. 31 uncontested soft disposals from the half back line.

Also had 15 hand passes, a little sus considering he only had 7 contested possessions. So he wasn’t exactly getting in and under, me thinks plenty of one twos were involved in those 38.

Not to mention that North’s defenders were just chipping it around all game.

Hey you’re free to think he had a great game if you like, but cheap disposals in the back half don’t do it for me. I think he had effectively zero impact on the match.

I’m not sure when both Dangerfield and C.Guthrie are fit and available how we will structure our midfield assuming everyone else is available. At the moment though Atkins and Clark are probably the most likely to go on current form.

Guthries been out a while he will need to come through the vfl.
Atkins is zero chance to be dropped. IF parfitt keeps this form up atkins will go back to hbf and tuohy or oconnor (probably the former) will be dropped.
Parfitt and bowes will have to keep this form up or they wont be in anyway.

Can’t see Guthrie having to play more than one VFL match assuming he looks a class above, which he should.

I’d prefer Atkins to Tuohy who is battling. He did a few nice things today but under heat is now often fumbly. O’Connor is in good form and provides positional versatility. Can’t see him being dropped.

Atkins should be on the periphery. He was great in 22 but on current form Parfitt is ahead.

If you're counting possessions, then time on ground is completely relevant.
To quote James May - "Irrelevant Twaddle".

North don't get 20 points added to their score because they had 16 less inside 50s and we don't excuse our mids struggling over the low bar set by elite midfielders at every other club.

We are 17th for clearances and 17th for contested possessions.
Guys hitting 18-23 touches shouldn't be celebrated, or excused because of low ToG. We should improve their endurance so their ToG and by extension, output, can increase accordingly.

Standards are being set very low on here.

Couple quick comments as i haven't had the chance to watch the whole game yet

Neale looked decent with good supply hopefully he gets a few more games this year to show if he can truly be an AFL player

COS looked like he will belong in 12 months time and play 200+ games

OH stop jumping so early for every mark... It has been the only complaint i have had of him this year as he has improved in areas that he needed to and was already a gun kick for goal.

**** i love Miers he is easily my favourite player behind Hawkins right now

This was a meh game i thought we were ok and did what we had to do without impressing a lot.
Neale was a real positive but the rest we cant judge much as the opposition was poor.

Next week i suspect the changes will be
In Danger hawkins kolo
Out: Neale osullivan tuohy
Id go clark again but mannagh as an impact sub is also possible.

ATM he's 7th at the club for average disposals, 5th from midfielders. That's with Bowes being lower atm due to a sub start, doubt that stays that way for long.

So where we're at is that there will soon, with any luck with injuries, be a spot squeeze.
Dangerfield, Kolodjashnij and Hawkins replace Neale, O'Sullivan and Clark next week. Who gets chopped in 1-3 weeks from now when Guthrie comes in is anyone's guess.

Could be Brandon, could be O'Connor, could be Atkins.
Wouldn't have thought there'd be many other candidates tbh.

Who are the four midfielders here that you’re counting ahead of Parfitt? I count two, three at a stretch. One being a Brownlow medallist.
