In: Nic, Clark
Out: Jamo, Gaff

Gaff out assuming he's sore.

Clark to play in the guts push Kelly out to the wing. (won't happen, sadly)

Keep Rotham for one more week, feel for these defenders a bit, chopping and changing them too much it's hard to build continuity in their game. Could quite easily see Edwards come in and go out again next week at this point.

Had chance to catch some of the replay.

Bazzo was a weak link down back (as you’d expect) - the prospect of Tom Lynch or Jack Riewoldt getting a hold of him is quite possible.

Edwards will have his tail up and might be in with a shot this week.

We need to think about bringing in an experienced defensive stopper for list depth at the end of the year. Hurn gets forced to play tall way too often and the young guys need more time.

Even at less than 100% Naitanui offers more than either Jamieson or Williams. I think you could toss a coin for which of the two comes out but I’d be leaning towards Jamieson

Edwards should come in for either Rotham or Bazzo, preferably Rotham

Petruccelle had a quiet game disposal wise but I thought he did just enough providing defensive pressure in our front half to get another game. Maybe Winder to replace him

The perpetual question of whether JK needs a rest will come up but hopefully he’s good to go. If he isn’t, I’m definitely retaining Williams to ruck with Nic and bringing Winder in to replace JK as the extra runner against Richmond would be handy

I’m guessing but I feel Gaff is playing sore. Bring in either Naish, Clark or O’Neill to replace him if necessary
Regarding the ruck support for Naitanui I see Williams clearly in front of Jamieson. I have appreciated Jamo’s efforts (and been somewhat surprised) but Williams provides a much better contest in ruck contests which is the ‘bread and butter’ job of ruckmen. Williams has the physical size to compete, Jamieson doesn’t. Jamieson has a go which everyone admires but he is undersized and most times just gets pushed out of the way. I know stats aren’t the full story but Williams gets far more hit outs than Jamieson and is improving. I think he is worth persevering with if he committed to the club, I don’t know about Jamieson. Jamieson has some good attributes and does some good things, but where does he fit as a player? Will he ever be big enough to be an AFL ruckman, and if he is not a ruckman where else could he play? Ruck seems to be his position but he needs to put on several more kilos especially as he is relatively short for the position.

In: Naitanui, Edwards, Clark
Out: Jamieson, Rotham, Petruccelle

Backs: Edwards, Barrass, Bazzo, Hurn, Duggan, Yeo, Jones
Mids: Kelly, Shuey, Redden, West/Clark, Gaff, Hough (wings)
Rucks: Naitanui, Williams
Forwards: Kennedy, Darling, Waterman, Ryan, Cripps, Rioli, Clark/West
Sub: Rotham
Emergencies: Jamieson, Petruccelle, Culley

NicNat for Jamo a no-brainer.

Edwards for Rotham to give us some extra height against Lynch/Riewoldt/Soldo.

Clark for Petch to give us some extra midfield rotations against the Tigers mids.

Culley into the emergencies to give him a chance to travel to Melbourne with the team, since there’s a Wafl bye.

I like the idea of rewarding good WAFL form and the three make sense.

It may well be Gaff coming out - a couple of long haul flights is not ideal for bruising and soft tissue issues and he seemed to be sore. If so, I doubt Petch gets the flick.

Culley back home is always going to be a winner. Also a useful part of how to prepare with travel.

Edwards coming in is a non negotiable with the tigers having Riewoldt, Lynch and a soldo resting forward. Add to that they have Dusty and Yeo probably needing to play on him

Id keep Bazzo in even if its V Lynch & Jack. He did well the backline in the Geelong game with 2 equally dangerous key forwards.
I'm with you. We're robbing Peter to pay Paul as the backline looked far better with more run.

Back ourselves in and keep it as a strength

Im not saying drop Bazzo lol. Rotham needs to go. Give Bazzo then soldo and Dusty match up. Im in the camp we should develop to be a third tall first that can defend third talls, midsize and smalls. Once he fills out he can move to the bigger boys.

Yup.

Win or loss ain’t going to make a great deal of difference to our season so give Bazzo a crack at some of the better forwards going around.

And, without throwing the baby out with the bath water, I’d be looking at resting someone like Gaff (putrid on Friday) and seeing what someone from the next tier can do when surrounded by our A graders.

I think Gaff needs a rest.. he looks cooked. Watching him on the boundary he looked so sore.

I think a few weeks off and he could come back and be the Gaff of old.

Agree with this sentiment.

If he is playing sore (above normal level sore) then WTF. Without sending him off to the glue factory, clearly Gaff is closer to the end than the start of his career. So rest him and do some shuffling of the magnets, including giving game time to some second stringers knocking on the door or trying Rotham (for eg) a game on wing etc etc etc etc

We’ve only got three home games left, so I don’t think so.

Plus an away derby followed by a trip to our favourite burial ground

Last home game is Adelaide in round 21

Might rest him for the trip to Gold Coast in Round 20

Also the Freo and Geelong games are consecutive 6 day breaks so there’s every possibility that he won’t physically be able to get up for one of those games
