One of the Port moderators just posted this:

New
According to a Kornes retweet, Ryder is in the team on the whiteboard. Has to get through Thursday training then it’s a judgement call on the hardness of the surface. Might be named and a late withdrawal. 50/50.

So the questions are as follows:

1. Ryder or not.
This makes a huge difference to their structure and our response. I am hoping riderless but will back us in to take home the chocolates with or without him. I love the comments from Lycett that it is his job to inflict pain on the opposition. Well my boy, as they sang in the old school yards:

"You and NicNat, Paddy whack, bruise the rider's bones, Eagles will come flying home".

2. Jetta or Not
Do we stick with our balance of talls and smalls down back? If Jetta OK to play, then we go unchanged. If we need to replace Jetta, then options are probably Hutchings, Schofield or Nelson. This week is probably not the week to add Watson while still keeping Petrucelle. Neither Schofield nor Nelson are that great with their disposal but I would probably back in Nelson on his decision making and pace (marginally ahead).

They do not play that tall even when Ryder is playing so worst case to cover their talls is to have Gov and Barrass covering Westhoff and Dixon, and then Hurn on Watts. If we need - Yeo can cover Watts for relief (although prefer to keep him more as a mid resting back).

3. The Optus Effect
Port are not that great at playing wider grounds. We are starting to develop a game plan that works at Burswood so I am expecting us to continue. Petrucelle has had his intro - now it is time to go in confidence. No better message to send to him than you are in again. Expect him to hit the scoreboard with more confidence this week.

4. Tom's Tackle
Tom Cole to be our back to back rising star nomination. Anyone watching Foxtel the last 2 nights would be hearing how better clubs are targeting players that can tackle. Forget other stats, it is tackles that count.

Based on last week, another performance from Tom Cole will see him as a certainty for the nomination. He polled pretty well in AF and SC but head and shoulders the best in the tackling world.

5. 9 A Graders
We even have Paul Roos noticing the change in intensity at the Eagles. He even has us with 9 A Grade players. I expect most people had JK, Yeo and Gov based on last year but Gaff is back to A Grade, Shuey never left being A grade, Hurn is in AA contention and a fit NicNat is synonymous with being A Grade. The start to 2018 by Darling and LeCras has seen them categorised as A Grade. If the latter 2 continue their 2018 form and not get enamored by the positive publicity, then we are on for win number 6,

Nice piece on Tom Cole and couldn't agree more however he didn't make your votes?
Most disappointing. ;)

Schoey played a blinder in the WAFL last round. Shutting down contests, zoning off for intercepts, moving up the ground to help on the rebound. Shep-like. Only against Freo forwards most of the game, but clearly Schoey is still AFL quality and looks like he's working on a few changes to his game this year.

On form I'd have him at least on the same footing with Nelson, so if Jetta's out I wouldn't be surprised to see either of them.

One is a developing young player, the other is a veteran with very known limitations. Much like Hutchings would probably have had more impact on the weekend than Petrucelle, I'd rather back in a youngster. If we're still sitting second at the pointy end of the season then i'd reconsider that logic, but for now we need to get games into the developing players.

That said, not a huge Nelson fan either, I'd like to see Watson get a gig if Jetta is out.

we can't demand certain players be considered when they're in good WAFL form and not others, for all we know he could pull a masten

also barrass has a tendency to get beaten one on one almost 100% of the time

Schofield also gets beaten 1 on 1 almost 100% of the time, and when he doesn't he'll often give away an unnecessary free kick. Loves a silly free kick when we've got a key forward beaten 2 on 1 or out of position.

In regard to the first part of your first post, do not agree at all. Every AFL clubs has blokes that are 'break in case of emergency' depth players. Mcinnes bangs the door down every week, but isn't getting a game unless Kennedy & Darling go down, and even then I'd hazard a guess the match committee would back in Brander & Mallen. The reality is some blokes are a class above WAFL, but a class below AFL. If Schoey isn't happy being depth then he can retire (ala Hams & Ginners), otherwise he can keep banking his AFL cheque and trying his heart out in the WAFL, and admirably, he appears ok doing the second.

That's pretty nuts, would never have picked it

We've been sleeping on Tom Cole
He's been a gun since day one, just needed us to go too far the other way so he could get a consistent run of games. Give him a year of development this year and then chuck him the midfield next season, will be the A grader we've been searching for.

Schofield is our best defender on a leading forward imo, but he won't take contested grabs like Barrass and Gov. He's probably been tried in a lot of different positions over his career to his detriment.

He has a good kicking action, good contact and trajectory but sometimes is pretty lazy in making sure it goes where he wants it. The bloke can run, knows the team structures well.

He's a fringe player, but I wouldn't be mad if he got games this year if the matchups allowed it or there were injuries.

Noone ever recognises the majesty of Shep, and he torches teams for it every week. Long may he fly under the radar.

Shep has been a star this year i have counted on numerous times how he has either created goals and saved goals. Love how he goes about it.

The difference this year is we have our guns firing on all engines, JK, Darling, Lecca, Hurn, Gov, Shuey, Gaff, Yeo, Nic Nat, Sheppard. Plus throw in a full fit Lycett, and massive improvement from Masten, Redden and Sheed. This makes it easier for youngsters to come in and play their role. Now i hope we blood Frances Watson get another young player the taste of AFL.

I'd support changing the thread title on the basis that the Powerpuff Girls have superpowers and beat up the devil on a regular basis. I'd rather play Port.

I suggest the old standby of Poort. The only downside is my phone autocorrects that.
