At the game and watching Kennedy closely i dont think its so much a match fitness thing. 2 things I’ve noticed:
1) We are playing with a taller forward line now, and as darling and waterman are working up the ground a lot they are taking more of the link up marks. Kennedy is playing a lot more deeper than usual so on current structures isnt going to rack up the marks he used to
2) We also have a lot more avenues to goal than the last couple of years, which is probably a good thing

Also got to remember he has still kicked 9 goals in 3 games. Pretty good conversion rate already. Not sure what it was like at the carlton game, but I swear he also gets man handled in the contest and never gets a free either. There were probably 3 or 4 in the freo game that could have been paid

I would think it worth considering resting JK against GWS and save the flying. Agree he has looked a little off peak during games
Resting is for players carrying injuries.JK has missed pre season training so he needs more game time to get match fit.Resting him makes no sense unless he is injured. You don’t build match fitness by missing the match.

Can't believe people are calling for Schofield in, surely we're well and truly past him.

Big boy, but needed to transition to the wing years ago if he was going to be a fixture of the team. No physical presence on a KPF, and no match awareness on a small.
Schoey played a blinder in the WAFL last round. Shutting down contests, zoning off for intercepts, moving up the ground to help on the rebound. Shep-like. Only against Freo forwards most of the game, but clearly Schoey is still AFL quality and looks like he's working on a few changes to his game this year.

On form I'd have him at least on the same footing with Nelson, so if Jetta's out I wouldn't be surprised to see either of them.

What talls - Dixon/Watts and ??

I know Westhoff drift forward and ryder will at times, but at most they have 3.

I'd back Hurn against Watts if required and Gov and Barrass to take two Dixon/Ryder/Hoff
Exactly this. The danger of Port is their quality of talls, not quantity. They're not exactly a slow side either so if you stack up on talls you run the risk of getting burnt off at ground level as well. We don't want to create a new problem trying to patch over the obvious one.

On top of Dixon's ability up forward we have struggled to contain Port in the past when they would force us to kick long to the wings from defence and have Ryder and Dixon each manning one. Hopefully Jetta is fit because we need to see how good this Hurn/Jetta combo is at getting us out of our defensive 50.

I say back in Barrass to improve on the past, hope having Naita and Lycett fit this time around gives us the competitiveness we need in marking contests around the ground and pray like hell Jetta is fit.

Resting is also for older players that have been subject to significant air travel and are returning from leg injuries. I want JK as long as possible but we will need to start thinking about when and how we manage him. Full steam ahead playing through soreness will not sustain his career.

I suggest that roughly half of the squad are carrying a niggle of some sort and a freshen up and avoidance of the travel has some merit.

Agree.

Which is why i think he should rest for the home game v the Saints leading into the bye. Some would argue use the bye to rest but with his lack of pre-season a 2 week break from flying and playing on a hard surface will do him good leading into the second half of the year.

That’s fine and I get it.It makes sense. The issue is execution.I would do that Against lions or suns or blues away. Not against giants or hawks.

He has played 3 games (2 at home) after half a year off. He does not need to freshen up. What he needs is to get his touch back.

we can't demand certain players be considered when they're in good WAFL form and not others, for all we know he could pull a masten

also barrass has a tendency to get beaten one on one almost 100% of the time

Would be viewed as a potential white flag and even if this operates only in the subconscious realm, it'll significantly reduce the likelihood that we'll win that game.

They won't do it if he thinks he can get up for it.

Nice to see we actually have options... club definitely on the right track.

With Jetta out Port will 100% sit someone on Hurn. I'd love to see them continue to back in the kids. Bring in Watson to play Jettas role. Perfect for him. Could also bring in Nelson though I don't particularly think he'd be damaging enough in that role.

Third option is to swing Yeo back and bring in one of Ah Chee/Hutch/Ainsworth to cover in the middle. I much prefer Yeo in the middle, but wouldn't mind seeing Ah Chee vs his old club.

Give Petrucelle another week at least. We were lacking speed two weeks ago at the G and we've already lost Jetta.

Would like to see
Ah Chee for Petrucelle
Watson for Jetta

Big month coming up so a game under
Ah Chee belt will do him well and need the bigger bodies.

I think we can win the next 3. Giants are right for the plucking atm. Especially if they continue with Patton as their ruck

Agree. Yeo to spend more time HBF to cover Jetts. Ah Chee in if he's fit enough, if not ...Hutchings.

Out: Jetta (inj)
In: Schofield

Schoey deserves it given his form and I think the extra tallish defender is okay for port given the matchups (would like schoey on a watts or westhoff).
Nelson fundamentally should be behind schoey and schoey can play small with his agility/pace.

Its tough whether or not to keep Petrol in but I don't like giving a player just one game and it should be more open against port so he gets another shot.

Hutchings, Ah chee, nelson the emergencies in that order.

Outs: Jetta,
Ins: Watson
Wouldn't mind Petrucelle retaining his place but if he does get dropped then bring in Ahchee. Watson should get his chance and has the potential to be a weapon from half back if given time to establish himself.
Nelson is a solid honest trier who should be used as depth. It's time to develop those who have talent.

While raw its a like for like. I like the team with the added pace over say the option of bringing Nelson or Schoey (I am the worst sponsor) in. Plus we should give Jetta 2 weeks to recover to see what Watson can bring.

I think people are overrating how tall Port are. Dixon is a monster yes (Barrass goes to him). Westhoff plays all over and Watts isn't exactly hard to contain. We have Gov and Goat Sheppard as third man to stop them.

Keep Petrol: Fury Road in. He had a quiet debut but so did Venables/Rioli. Keep the faith. Only the other day they said Kade Simpson didn't have a possession in his first 3 AFL games. Lets not be so drastic.

Port are not as fast as they have been, no Wingard, Hartlett or Impy. Motlop is quick though.

We on the other hand are much quicker.

Two form rucks v a nervous Ryder and Dixon.

Port mentally will be pumped up, really want to beat us after last year.
