I dont think anything can be done just yet. Early year we had rachelle, Soligio run thru there.

Last few weeks we have put thru pedlar and Rachelle was back in there after the bye.

But they are simply too young yet to be able to play the entire year in the mids, reason we have keays / Sloane / laird as the main 3.

Their bodies are just too young and not built yet for the heavy lifting. Clearly we want them in there but just not possible.

Sloane made a comment early year after 5-6 rounds how easy it was on the body playing wing vs inside. Never sore, never beat up. Can't expect an 19 year old to withstand the inside grunt of getting hit non stop vs 28 year old bulls.
Not against Collingwood, in fact Rachele didn't get a single CBA against the Pies, Soligo was way down and Pedlar barely spotted.

We have the youngsters minutes against a crap Roos side, this is a must-win game so I fully expect the younger players to be cut out again and we'll go back to the 4 man rotation.

You giving people grief for using an emoji!

My word.
To be fair he laughs at every post posted by a Crow supporter on the Redman trade thread - I mean every post!

Rather immature.

We have to take risks more, and get at least 1 of Pedlar/Soligo/Rachele/Rankine as a main midfield rotation per week.

If tiredness if a factor, then rotate them week to week, but at least 1 of them is needed each week for development.

The Crows are still too risk averse with midfield development, yet weirdly are prepared to take risks repeatedly already shown not to work, such as playing under-sized defence!

When we played the Saints people got upset about the 'undersized defence' because we played Butts but not Murray and brought in Parnell, and it was fine. Is there any particular reason to think Murray + Worrell won't match up well against Essendon? As far as I can tell it's mainly Wright + Wiederman and some smaller guys who are around the height of Max/Hinge. This would seem to be an okay game to not have another defender of Butts/Murray size, though we could be exposed if we get another KPD injury during the game I guess.

How can we fix our midfield in the short term?

14th for clearance differential, 15th (worst) for scores conceded from clearances.
What was Collingwood's clearance differential/scores conceded from clearance pre and post bringing in Tom Mitchell?

Couldn't find stats but found this quote from Pendlebury
Pendlebury indicating that he will have to slot into the Magpie's fast-paced tempo and defensive accountability;

“It's the Tom Mitchell who dominates around the footy and is a beast around the ball, but also puts on pressure, tackles, and he probably doesn't feel like he has to be best on ground for us to win."
“He has just got to do his job because he addresses a great need for us. We haven't been great around the footy with our clearance work and that is his one-wood.” As a side last year, Collingwood were routinely trounced in most statistical categories, particularly stoppages and clearances, but made up for it with their dominance around the ground.

I haven't watched any SANFL, so can't really comment, but genuine question; could Matt Crouch play a similar role for us? not to dominate possession but at least even up clearances a bit whilst still maintaining the other better users in there? His career averages seem to be similar to Mitchell.

Adelaide will name its final team at 4.30pm on Friday.:drunk:
