Curtin is not a KPD - needs to play the sweeper role. Either that or play him in the SANFL in the midfield / wing. I’m worried he’s gonna get the “spend a year learning how to defend” treatment. Then our coaches realise he’s an attacking player and we’ve just wasted a year of his career.

He needs to know how to defend regardless of how we want to use him because the opposition will isolate and expose him otherwise. Its a smart move to play him deep in the SANFL even if thats not his role at AFL level. We dont need to teach him how to rebound as hes ready to go in that position.

OK, Crouch copped a week. if not contested/overturned:
--- Dowling IN.

When Crouch returns, Smith OUT (after 6 poor games), Dowling retained.
Laird moved to HBF.

Also, McHenry OUT, to be replaced by anybody with a bigger body and even reasonable skills.
Could not be worse or have less impact than Ned.

Hell, if we have to, play a man short. Anything, but McHenry again.
It'd create space for our youth to be creative with and eliminate McHenry's mistakes and ineptitude.

Ned needs to be the sub and bring in Pedlar

It will be Berry to come off the bench and play full minutes for Crouch.

Mark my words Crouch does have a place in the team, some of his work to feed that ball out to the distributors was elite v carlton.

No Ned at all.

Yeah, could be. The simpler option is usually the better one, right Occam? :sneaky:

I agree; your words marked :thumbsu:. Just not this week if the one-game ban stands.

Going to be an interesting battle of the coaches this weekend.

Listening to Buckley this morning, after Rozee and JHF tore Essendon a new one, against the Bulldogs they sent two of the younger lesser mids to close check Bont and Libba. Worked on Bont which bloody cost me a multi.

If they choose the same tactic, Rankine will cop one. Given lack of experience will be interesting to see how he handles it. Would the other go to Laird or Soligo?

How will be combat it? Merrett kills us every time, should we send some one to him in a similar role?
If everyone is tagging everyone, isn't that just normal football again?

Personally:

Out: Butts, Crouch (susp), McHenry (sub)
In: Curtin, Dowling

Butts for Curtin as it's about time we need to see our first round pick - especially as Essendon don't have great depth in KPFs, with Worrell taking over CHB. However, I doubt we're ready to pull the Butts for Curtin trigger just yet. As much as there is little scope to win a best 22 spot at this point, I'd give Dowling a debut here as a 7th forward just to give a taster of AFL football seeing Murphy is injured and McHenry is more suited to being a substitute. Also gives us a chance to scope out if Billy could take over a wing slot later this year.

I'm thinking Berry for Crouch, Dowling as sub only changes unless an injury.
I don't really like the idea of debuting a kid as the sub though.

Give him a full game, let him play in the middle a bit. If he's a midfielder, play him there.

Ned can be the sub, or left-right-out.

How the hell are people saying make Ned the sub?

Did people not watch the game? It was the worst performance by a Crows player in ~20 years. Horrible, just horrible. He should never wear the guernsey again.
Because we flatly refuse to change our 26 man squad unless there's injuries. Especially after a win.

Unless Murphy is available for selection, McHenry stays in the 23.

Sholl coming back in for Crouch, with Berry to get a full game looks a certainty.

I really don’t understand our coaches mindset wasting games on the likes of McHenry or Murphy. We would be way better off using that spot to develop the likes of Peds, Dowling, Taylor, Bond, Curtin, Ryan or Edwards.

There is no way that Murphy or McHenrys immediate productivity outweighs the development value of putting games into those kids.

Berry could be a good option for someone to run with Merrett if we need to shut him down.

Berry for at least plan B or part of the game?

My changes having settled down would be:

Out: Crouch, McHenry, Butts (if injured or potentially if not injured either - he was pretty average on Saturday)
In: Dowling, Peds (sub), Curtin (if Butts is out)

I feel bad for Peds - he’s punished because of Nix rd 1-4 s**t game plan. Give him a go with this game plan.

You have a good point on their forwards as they have only the 1 really big tall.

Keane - resting ruckman
Worrell - Jones
Curtin - Langford
Hinge - Stringer

Max also capable of taking the last 3.

McHenry and Smith absolutely need to go. ROB and Laird not far behind.
Time for Laird to transition out of the midfield and take up his spot in the backline.

Out: Crouch (suspended), McHenry (delisted), Smith (retired), Butts (injured)
In: Dowling, Pedlar, Ryan, Curtin

B: Max - Keane - Curtin
HB: Hinge - Worrell - Laird
C: Jones - Dawson - Nank
HF: Rachele - Walker - Cook
F: Gollant - Fog - Keays
R: ROB - Soligo - Rankine
I: Hamill - Berry - Ryan - Dowling
S: Pedlar

It was bad but I still have the worst in 20 years as Curtly Hampton's 2 disposal effort (83% TOG) against Richmond in 2018

It was so bad he retired a few weeks later, claiming lost motivation to play the game (and illness)
