Keplar > Anthony imo. He seems to do good things when he has the ball, contests well, and is a bit more mobile and versatile.

So so true he does the miraculous if we don't Balentyne then we need to have some x factor in our team IMO love it when he side steps multiple people then goals ....... Pure class.

Can someone please enlighten me as to why Nick Lower isn't in our best 22, let alone our best 25? Not even named as an emergency!

He was a walk-in starter last year and I think one of our better players, surely you'd have him in ahead of a number of players (Pearce, Mellington, Mayne, maybe Duffield).

Jack hard done by being left out this week after the effort he's put in, but I think unfortuantely just too slow. And you can't really complain when you're replaced by someone like Mundy.

I think the balance of our team is still just a little off, with not enough hard-ball winners, and Lower is someone who can do that, who together with Mundy would allow Hill to play his natural outside game again and maybe find some confidence!

Don't even get me started on SCOS being left out. You would assume since he's named as an emergency that he's fit to play. Streaks ahead of what I've seen from Dawson so far..

Well they left him outside for the first half against Sydney, did nothing. Threw him inside and he carved up. I think everybody assumes he should be an outside player, but he isn't. Which isn't a bad thing.

There is a big difference between including a club champion in the team without any pre-season games under his belt and including Lower. I both think and hope that he gets a game next week. He is very important in the clearances and isn't given enough credit on here. But he probably needs a game of WAFL under his belt.

I can't quite understand what Falkon is saying regarding only needing 1 tough player in the team.

If I think of the good inside players;
Boyd, Priddis, Watson etc.... They can't kick.

If Hill turns into a 30-40 possession and 15-20 clearance player, he will be the most damaging weapon we have ever had. His burst speed could get him clear of a pack, he only needs a second to put the ball on his boot. If we are really lucky, a few times a game he will explode out of the middle and kick it himself.

Tough-As in puts their head over the ball every time and puts in 100% effort in every contest. De boer and Lower are the two players that spring to mind....downside is that they are slow... anyway I can't see room for the two of them in our best22. Compute?

But the very best are both. Eg Judd, Ablett, Murphy, Pendlebury etc. Hill needs to find the balance.

Think you're setting the bar too high mate, I'd be stoked if he returned 25 possessions and 8 clearances a game.

I don't agree that teams only have one or two players that are tough and put their head over the ball. From what you are saying you would have Geelong drop one of Selwood, Chapman or Kelly because you can't have more then one tough player in a team. And that's just ridiculous. By the numbers De Boer and Lower are among the fastest in our squad. Check out their 20m sprint times if you don't believe me.

Does anyone think that SNOS might be chance to come in for Anthony?
Mundy in releases broughton who covers duffield's spot.

A chance? Well he is an emergency so...yes. Obviously.
Would I if I could? I wouldn't. Brisbane have gone tall and I doubt their mobility. If the named 22 are right. I would count on our lads to run them into the ground and choke them with more numbers at the contest, the way Sydney did us last week. Oh and with Mundy in, expect no mid-field Pav. I said it and I expect to be quoted if I am eventually found to be wrong.

Im talking about the dynamics of the FREO team (not geelong, thats an entirely different scenario) ..... Would Lower get a game with Selwood, Champman and Kelly, I think not...

Bottom line is you would have Lower in your best 22 and I wouldn't.
No point debating this any further...

Yeah, with his skills if Hill averaged the numbers Taylor quoted it would make him pretty much the greatest player in history.

Was going to post on the same lines, DeBoer isn't that slow nor is Lower particularly over short distances. DeBoer has also built a pretty good tank and has good hands in most situations. Kicking is his only down side and it's not that bad in the field, ordinary in front of goal. Lower is a similar sort, but with Mundy, Barlow (if body can handle it), Hill playing a bit more pure mid as with Frodo. Spots for Lower's prime playing position becomes a bit of a premium. That's not even including the likes of Broughton or Pav swinging through there, and Pearce is still in Lyon's good books.

A little slow on the upkeep Banners? Lyon's in charge, not Harvey. Lyon doesn't play players in an AFL side (A fully fit listed side mind you) when they haven't played a game of footy in 8 months. So he's no longer suspended, big whoop. Harvey might've picked him this week, Lyon's method would be closer to:

Lyon: You ticked all your boxes yet? clocked up the km's in the legs? had the game time?
Lower: Ummm, not quite, but i'm ready to go
Lyon: great, be at Arena Joondalup on Sunday and prove it to me.

Mundy???

There's always going to be exceptions to the rule, he would have played for subi for the last few weeks if the coaching staff wanted him there, they deemed him a level above the WAFL and decided that grueling in house match sims would be more beneficial to him. I'm sure it sounds contradictory, but at the end of the day Mundy's the roles royce to lower's commodore.

Agreed Nicko's, people need to start to get use to this scenario. The reason Lower was a walk up start last year was because he could walk! Lyon has a history of playing the same guys and I think part of the reason is because he manages his players and has a full squad to choose from most of the time.

He's new too, so players need to earn there spot again unless their name is on a board at Freo Oval. This is not a bad thing.

I would have Lower in the team before De Boer. Now we can stop debating it ...:)

Agree with most of this. Just glad to see Mundy back so there's finally someone to help out De Boer and Barlow. Good to see him named on the ground as well, obviously giving him every opportunity to play a full game if he feels up to it, but will be subbed in all likelihood.

A question in regards to Lower though, could he not have been playing in the WAFL for the last few weeks (or has he?), or does a suspension at AFL level mean he can't?

Been waiting for a long time for players to actually be competing for spots in our team. Feels pretty good. Haha. :p
