Maybe Hartlett then? I haven't seen a lot of Port, I just thought Hutch could go to a running half-back and Pittard was the name that came to mind.

My theory was based on Redden surviving the cut though, and us needing to use one of our glut of inside mids elsewhere. That's less of an issue now.

Hartlett basically playing as a small defender these days and hasn't been having a huge influence. If wingard plays in the middle he's the one to tag. If gray plays midfield instead tag on him.

I think you also judge a coach on results which is win-loss primarily. On that front Simpson has been more than reasonable (53-29-1 by my count - 63.7%)

Only 3 other coaches have got their team to a GF during his tenure and only 2 have won one

The reason I got mad, as you put it, with your comment that Simpson needs to be replaced even if we won a flag is because it defies logic. Surely that's the definitive metric of a coaches value

If you want to argue that he should be replaced because you don't think he's capable of delivering a premiership then that's fair enough, even if I would disagree with it

Chris Scott says hi.

Don't have an issue with the changes. Cole just taking a break.
Leccas inclusion annoys me as does Coles omission.

Priddis, well I was in doubt he was coming back and made my peace with it early on.

Meh, I'll still melt, celebrate and enjoy the game. Footy is just that. Footy.

I will only agree with that logic if win/loss ratio is ascending as he continues to coach with a team and personnel that he has built. Couple of issues with his WIN Loss ratio of ( 53-30-1)

2014- 11W, 11L, 2015, 18W, 6L,1D, 2016: 16W, 7L and this year so far 8W, 6L.The trend of results does not work well at all for Simmo. Funny enough the year we had the 18W season was the year with major injuries in the squad.Change of game plan and catching the comp by surprise until Hawks had us figured out in GF. You flip this around and tell me we were going to be sitting on 18wins this year, then I would agree with you that he is on the right track. They are lots of factors that dictate the end result of the game, however once you have 4 years of performance as a coach, it is easier to pin point the holes in his coaching because the numbers( results) are only part of his KPI unless of course he wins the flag every year.

Out of the 53 wins under Simmo, we have had 32 wins at home in 3 and a half seasons. WA home ground advantage is a great way of skewing numbers for WA coaches IMO to make them look better than they actually are. specially, with the huge difference of form we have away at home ( VIC to be exact) it is a major cause of concern. You cant win at Home by 10 goals and get belted the week after by same amount, something is wrong there. Results aside, the most important factor or x factor in a coach is his/her ability to be a great problem solver. In order to fix a problem, you need to first admit there is one, then try to fix it the best you can. The fact that our coach does not have the balls to say out loud Lecras, priddis or who ever has been ommitted due to form ad instead goes with "general soreness" excuse BS, causes for some grave concerns from his psychological aspect of coaching.

The fact that he has mucked around with our wining midfield team from Dogs game, tells me he is reactionary auto pilot with no control. Not even an away win against premiers is good enough to keep his old fav players out of this squad. This is why results to me are part of the overall overview of a coach, because I am trying to understand what he is thinking or doing that I don't understand, and everything he does is at this point questionable. It is not entirely his fault either, he is young, in experienced and basically will almost always get out coached by Clarko, Longmuire, even Scott in the big game. He got out coached by Goodwin as well IMO trying to save a game by panicking which cost us the game.

Just an initial comment on your point on home wins skewing a WA coaches win loss record

32 home wins is from 46 home games which means 21 wins and a draw from 38 away games. A >50% strike rate away from home is quite reasonable and if you're going to discount home wins due to home ground advantage you need to acknowledge the difficulties faced in winning away from home - it balances out

You make some fair points in the rest of your post that I'll consider and respond to later

Taller and slower ******* genius. My memory might suck but how often have we actually exposed an opposition for height? We for sure have been overrun for lack of pace a few times. I just don't get this crap...how many seasons do we intend to waste??

Only change I have an issue with is Priddis in for Redden, I can't see the downside in giving Redden a proper chance to play the role he was recruited for.
Lycett in makes us tall, but that's obviously been done with consideration to the way Port has been lining up and Mcgovern must be needed back.

We've lost 4 games by ten points or less and are only a game outside the top 4, the coaches and match committee probably think that irrespective of the outside narrative that we are right in contention. If a couple of those games are wins then all of a sudden we're in the top 4 and people are talking about making sure we have the best side ready for a flag tilt irrespective of age. Puts a bit of a stay on bringing in the yoof but I'd rather go down swinging chasing a flag, this year is open to whichever side gets hot at the right time, no reason it can't be us.
