Is Parnell just too small for AFL? He's supposed to be a good kick, but I don't think it's elite enough to cover for all the other deficiencies.
Yep if you’re that small you better be elite at something.
He’s just a good kick nothing more.

Caleb Daniel is 4 kgs lighter and 7cm shorter, but he does have a few strings to his bow and great evasiveness...Parnell did show something in his few games a couple of years back, but I feel he's regressed like many of our potentials have.
Parnell is also the same height as Laird who is an All Australian, and taller than plenty of small forwards. Obviously needs to be a good player which is a different issue.

Just pick whoever is in form in the 2s.

I don’t know who that is (aside from Dowling) or when they play but we’re so bad that don’t overthink it, if they play/are playing well then give them a shot. There’s no shortage of options to make way

Also think it’s time to throw the midfield mix away. If crouch is preferred over laird, put laird into Parnells position. Soligo has shown enough that he needs to be a 1st choice mid, so does Dawson and we can’t throw away rankine/rachelle (basically picking soligo as the kid over them). Dawson, soligo, crouch OR Laird, rachelle, Rankine should be the mix until peds shows form and can be considered too

Stop picking parnell, sholl, etc who just have shown enough to know they’re not the answer and never will be

We already know Burgess will be out for Gollant .....Burgess subbed, Dawson and Worrell played FWD at stages to find a fwd tall solution

Nicks has to rattle that midfield cage
They might go Strachan for Burgess...don't think Lachie can play ruck minutes...unless Tex steps up. Carlton use McKay in there when De Koning rests, so we'll need some height...

Tough week to predict selections as I could easily see any of McHenry, Laird, Burgess, Berry, Parnell or Cook going out of the team. I think everyone else is safe.

Possible ins would be Gollant and Dowling but not sure who else could get a go. Maybe Ryan for Parnell? Not sure what they will do with Berry and McHenry.

At a guess:
In: Gollant, Dowling
Out: Burgess, Parnell

Ryan would actually provide drive off the half back line pair him with Nank and we'll look a heap better. If you add Curtin too who actually can hit a target we would be at least somewhat exciting to watch.

Would love Dowling and Edwards to get in the team too they want to make it at AFL level young and fresh, Laird honestly doesn't give a shit just wants a stat.

Imagine Dawson Soligo and Edwards/Dowling having a red hot crack in the centre

It’s positional.
Sorry to out you Bearded Clam

Stuff like this makes me skeptical that a member elected board would solve our problems. It's that Winston Churchill quote about democracy.

"The best argument against democracy is a 5 minute conversation with the average voter."

Out: Hinge, Walker, Parnell

In: Edwards/Hamill, Dowling/Taylor, Gollant

Wouldn't drop Laird, but he'd have way less midfield time next week. Can stay forward or back.

Thin ice: Smith, Rachele, McHenry, Keays
Dropping/resting Tex after 15 disposals, 10 marks, 8 score involvements and a goal? ****, as if scoring isn't already hard enough!

Looking at it through the beer goggles at AFC right now ...

No way - Curtin or Edwards or Dowling or Ryan get a look-in. As Nick's said (derpa derpa) it's a big jump between SANFL and AFL and we want to be sure that they are ready (derpa derpa)

I mean look at how eaten alive Cook and Nank were. Keane is basically a baby to the sport that's why he looks so out of place at AFL level :drunk:

No way - Smith or McHenry or Jones or Hinge get dropped. They are just out of form, they can't be dropped back to SANFL - especially this week, and we need the structures to be adhered to.

We are so close to it all just clicking :drunk:

No way - we have anything other than work harder longerer and hope approach. BTW, when did HOPE become and acceptable term for a coach to have as his guiding light? He's one step away from mathematically possible. I'm seeing so many Neil Craigisms that I'm starting to hate watching my team play. Nicks is even referring to the statistics on the laptop! Effin Nightmare.

Like I said before the season - WE HAVE FRANKED NOTHING ON-FIELD YET TO GIVE ANY CONFIDENCE UNDER NICKS' THAT HE CAN DELIVER - and that has not changed one iota after four soul-sapping weeks of this season. We just needed to say "Matthew is our preferred coach and once we hit 13 wins this season we will be signing him up." But no, too much pressure :drunk:

What will probably happen this week ... I reckon Burgess out for Gollant (because Nicks mentioned Gollant and subbed out Burgess) - the late Parnell injury means Pedlar probably comes back in - Berry goes into the 22 and McHenry to sub. Inspired.

I expect our desperation to get a win combined with our fear of being humiliated and the uninspiring nature of picking every bit of experience you can to all come together for another nail in our collective coffins for the season that just keeps on giving.

Outs: Jones, McHenry, Parnell
Ins: Curtin, Dowling, Ryan

On notice: Hinge

Play Curtin on a wing, move Laird to half back. Keep Berry as the sub. If the Suns can make 9 changes after just one loss and hand out 3 debuts in one game, why is our club above that? Make a statement.

its time to try two rucks. Strauchnie and ROB of the bench and the occasional mismatch up forward. To those who say no we have never tried it - let see if it works. Baby John to the reserves and lets play him in defence.

I thought Hinge as actually better this week because he did find some targets unlike previous weeks where he could not hit a barn door.

Pedlars pre season form on the track was nowhere near the level of last year. He needs some time in the B's.

Unfortunately Patty's shoulder injury has affected his willingness to get the loose tough ball. He looked all at sea defensively last night. Its time for Laird to return to defence.

Chayce is also struggling with form. It takes a long time to overcome Lin Franc injury. Get him in the B's to recover form and confidence and touch. Keep Cook and Nank on the wings. I liked the talls on the outlet for the first half in particular. DO not send Cook back to reserves after only one game.

Lochy Gollants form not up to it. Playing too much from behind and kicking poorly needs to lift or look like he will get DCM at year's end.

Billy Dowling next up. Edwards, Ryan and Curtin not yet ready. Dragon no game for a month. Surely we could have managed this better.

The reason we wouldn't do Strachan and ROB is because both are useless around the ground. ROB is not a contested marker. The best he can do is maybe disrupt the opposition from marking. ROB is also known for his elite endurance. You'd think for someone who has elite endurance, he should be able to run off his opponent and get up forward or become a marking target.

Isn’t that Strachans go, around the ground.
He seems to get a lot of ball for someone that’s no good at it.

How do you know that RE Strachan. We’ve never given him a go at afl level and he’s not too bad at sanfl level around the ground.

Not for performance, but the fact he still can't reach the ground. Come back when his back is right.
