For me, Howard is the point of difference in our back line with respect to the talls. He is quick, tall and excellent intercepter. Clurey and Jonas are very similar (as is Hombsch) in height, pace, and style of player. I think Dougal down back is super important for structure. Picture Clurey on Hawkins and Dougal floating back/from the side to chop out. Jonas doesnt do this anywhere near as well.

At the same time, I think Charlie forward is equally important for structure.

For this reason, I think we need to have Hoff in ruck again for most of the night. Geelong rucks are not exactly Martin/Bellchambers size. Focus on the contest and clearance and make sure Hoff does plenty around the ground.

I hope Marshall gets up to stretch their backline. I also hope Rocky is good to go. If they are both fit, I am making one change and that is SPP in for Amon.

100% re Dixon, Dougal and our structures which means Westhoff to rusk

I guess that also means we have to consider whether Billy offers more than Westhoff in the ruck and around the ground.

I feel for Amon though as he seems to try but he just can't seem to cement himself at AFL level.

In: Pittdawg, SPP, Frampton, Barry
Out: Rocky (inj), Amon, Houston, McKenzie

Pittard for Houston (straight swap)
SPP for Rocky (need the inside grunt more than whatever role Rocky is currently playing)
Barry for Amon (should never have been dropped)
Billy for McKenzie (allowing Dougs more time in defence)

Power star wants 'bull' to add some spice
PORT Adelaide star Robbie Gray is looking forward to having midfield bull Sam Powell-Pepper back in the side after the youngster served his one-game club-imposed suspension for a boozy night out.
Powell-Pepper is available for selection for Saturday night's clash with Adelaide Oval.
The 20-year-old was banned by the club's leadership group for breaking team rules, while the incident is still under investigation by the AFL.
"We love having him out there," Gray told reporters on Tuesday.
"His contested ball work and pressure he puts on the opposition is super, so we love playing with him.

It is kind of strange seeing these two quotes from Ken in his post-match press conference.

http://www.portadelaidefc.com.au/news/2018-04-15/hinkley-we-havent-got-a-ruck-ready-to-play

When asked about the young rucks

"I'm not going to play people who don't deserve to be out there and can't physically compete when they're out there.

When asked about Rockliff during the game

"He did a manful job to be able to almost hobble around out there as best he could," Hinkley said.

Here’s one for thought. If frampton isnt “ready” for full time ruck, why can’t we bring him in as a FWD and Dixon can play most of the ruck. That way we gain some structure back and have someone who IS capable of ruck???

we would have to decide which tall to drop as we have too many talls as is.

would it be westhoff, watts or marshall out?

Would you drop a tall if Ryder was coming back?

hmm my spine and talls may look like

dixon
Watts
Ryder Westhoff
Dougal
Jonas Clurey

with Marshall being the unlucky one out. As although I prefer Marshall over Westhoff already, Marshall can't go into the ruck or drop back as required. Mind you, I already like Marshall over Watts and as such, he might be the unlucky one.

Next year, I can see Watts playing Westhoff's role on the wing and swinging back which will restore balance in the side.

Why don't we have Dix playing Ruck full time and play mostly smalls like Richmond Collingwood Bulldogs etc ( Our smalls are better!)

We still have Marshall, Watts, Hoff and Dix floating up to mark and kick a goal like Ladey used to..

Also from the kickouts ( theirs and ours) we still have a good ruck marking on the wings (Dix)

There’s absolutely no reason Marshall can’t play with all those others, he in no way makes us slow. His ground ball ability and speed are incredible for a player of his height and no worse then the majority of small forwards.

It’s not about speed, it’s about team balance.

Marshall played with all those guys in round 1 and we comfortably beat Fremantle, which is a much better side this year than credited.

Jasper in is a must. For either of Houston or McKenzie. He is easily a better player than both of them.

And can kick straight for goal ... A bit of added bonus ...:D

Melts.. Neade in for Marshall and SPP to stay out for another week. Only changes.

hah i was saying this exact thing to a colleague earlier today when he asked if Marshall missed who would replace him.
