A wild ride of ups and downs in this game for Trainor. In the opening half he was matched up predominantly on Jonty Faull and blanketed him extremely well. In the second half he was shifted onto Jack Whitlock who exposed some of Trainor's limitations against the super tall 200cm forwards as Whitlock outmarked him on several occasions by simply reaching up to a higher point than Trainor was capable of, and Trainor failed to use his body or block his run at the footy. During this period, Trainor also committed some damaging turnovers by foot and seemed to be out of sorts. But in a final dramatic twist, he pushed himself forward with seconds remaining and Metro in need of a goal, won the pivotal free kick and 50 meter penalty and kicked the winning goal from point blank range.

IF Hedwards is given a fair crack at it and does well and then Bazzo is getting into form in the WAFL to finish the year out... Do we maybe consider the Barrass trade if we can get some good picks?

I rate Barrass highly but if Gov + Hedwards & Bazzo all stay fit we still have a solid backline.

We have to remember the Saints are probably going to get band 1 compo for Josh Battle - which is laughable but it is what it is. Makes splitting a tad less appealing because they’ll definitely take 2 mids.
With every dodgy afl drafting rule their could be a silver lining. Does adelaide need to jump st kildas 2 top 5 pick to get draper? If they want too we should ask for their f1 to bring warner home with Cox as new coach

Assuming st kilda get band 1 for battle which I think they will

Adelaide
Out- 6 + f1
In- 3

Wce
Out- 3
In- 6 - f1 (adelaide)

6- Travaglia
2025 f1 + 2025 f1(adelaide) - the chad

Slowly coming around to the idea of letting TB explore his options, if it nets a top 10 + hopeful second rounder.

Edwards is ready to play now, Bazzo has great upside. Plus even with the Gov/TB combo we get smashed.

Games are largely won in the middle and around the contest, and we need to inject some more depth and talent asap.

Draft watchers … thoughts on Harvey Langford?

Haven’t seen his name mentioned much, but Twomey has him as the fourth-best which is pretty much where we’re picking at this stage (after Ashcroft goes as a F/S).

Interesting the 3 draft power ranking that has come out post the champs, usually they're very similar in with maybe one or two difference but largely the same.

This years power ranking are all completely different, and I think it's down to how even this years draft is. The gap between 4 to 14 isn't that big and someone being rated at 14 isn't that they don't rate them, more it's bloody hard to split them.

I really rate this draft and we could stock up on a few needs in it.
Which makes it difficult to split our pick 3 in the hope we gain access to our targeted players. We may see trevaglia going around pick 9-13 and spit to gain the extra pick around that mark but then someone takes him at 5.

Ideally we need to keep pick 3 and find a way to get another top 10 pick in.

If the saints get band one compo for battle that's pick 5. Would they part with 5 for Waterman and 23? Or would they part with 5 for barrass?

I just thought of this trade
WCE Give 3, 23
GC Give 7,8, 28, 35
We could also look at trading barrass and liam ryan says twoomey so we could get more 1st rounders and 2nd rounders like
Barras for Pick 16 and 29 from WB (16 from the Smith trade to geelong if it happens)
WCE Get 7,8, 16, 28, 29, 35 along with 59 in the draft this makes us get some more draft picks in the draft.

Got outmarked by Travaglia (which is embarrassing to say the least) and had to rely on a contentious umpiring call (and then a dubious 50m penalty for glaring) to win the game.
Didn't cover himself in glory in that last play.

Cal saying this years draft is a super depth draft with a lot of good players up to pick 30ish.

So maybe trading pick 3 for for extra picks could be the way go.

Depending of course on what is on offer from other clubs, this is looking to be an increasingly viable option.

Particularly for smalls, this year appears to go very deep with talent.

The top tier isn't separating itself from the rest of the group so much this year as others either it seems.

Picks 10-30 shaping to be of better value in 2024 than in typical draft years.

If Bazzo plays decent in the WAFL this week I'd bring him back and ease him into AFL life

Looking forward to the Gov, Barrass, HEdwards, Bazzo back line to go along with our land of the giants up forward :thumbsu:

For sure, it was a borderline outrageous call by the ump.

Very good player that I had thought pre Championships would come off the draft board between our pick, initially I had a late first to early second round grade on him.
Such was his form over the championships that he has now well and truely worked his way into mid first round contention.

He is a smart player that has a long left foot kick on him when needed, also has a good range of distances with his feet, can be prone to miss a target occasionally but an ok kick, without saying an elite kick.
The only other knock on him is he is ok with foot speed, with out burner pace.

All other things, then by gee, there is a lot to like about his game.
Reads the play well, plays taller than his height and links up very well.
Has some positional versatility as he can play inside or outside mid, HBF and HFF.
He is one of those players who things seem to happen when they are around the ball - which is cue for his has great footy smarts.

From the body of work I have seen he will be a definite AFL quality player, but as like all of the youngsters it’s too early to say if he will be a B or A grade player.

His smarts, will be beneficial to his progression to playing at the next level, as he does read the way the game opens up ahead of himself particularly well and makes good decisions.

Not a lot of love for Jagga at our pick?He is almost the exact type of player we need. High possession getter that wins clearances with fast hands but also runs hard to link up.
He may be missing the penetrating kick and doesnt kick many goals but would add something different to our midfield setup.
Looks like he’s a leader and competitor too.

Sounds like dan Curtin is having a hard time of it in the SANFL. Thought he was ready to go round one according to his manager! Just like most key position players they take time. Thank god we didn't take him with pick one.
