Disgusting ----- I have followed this club for longer than most of you have been alive . Apart from a couple of periods when we have been ok , we have been very ordinary. Never before have i seen us so badly handle a pre season as we have this one . While the players should accept responsibility for what is going on game day , its about time the people who planned this ****up also put their hands up . So many went under the knife , knowing full well we had a short pre season , and then picking players that were clearly underdone . Why? . Why not pick a team of players who were fully fit and then add players as they became fit(match fit). Easy to blame Misson for this , but was he handed a **** sandwich to start with? All this talk of "Brand" etc is crap . Marketing rubbish that means nothing to me. Either the coaching group realise that the game has moved on from "contested footy" or they should move on . A lot of you have correctly identified what we are lacking, it amazes me the coaches cant see it . Last season was an appetiser, this season shapes up as a complete waste . I really hope we get it together for next year and not just slip into oblivion .
Yeah strong post mate. I’ve been a supporter since the late nineties (1997) and remember plenty of pretty good periods of footy for a while up to 2006. I thought 98 was and could’ve been our year for a flag. But basically post Daniher it’s been a train wreck, and it’s really been a concoction of off field disasters; Schwab, Connolly, the tanking saga, Bailey & Neeld. That ruined us, the tanking ruined us. It created this inept sub standard culture.

I maintain to this day you only need one or two drafts to pick your core group and then add and delete as required. Geelong and Hawthorn take a bow. We plunged ourselves into this loser culture and ruined so many potentially really good players. No coincidence a flag coach in Roos with a good administration dug us out of a hole.

I hope this is more of a blemish or a blip than a full step back, that our coaches can identify the issues at hand and work through them. I’ll be really concerned we will be going into a huge chasm again if we start 2020 the same way.

I think it’s eaten with light sauces like oil and garlic or some tomato type sauces. And I think it is generally the pasta for carbonara, though I’m suddenly unsure.
Right you are! Personally I always gone for that capellini stuff for the light sauces. Donovans in St. Kilda do really nice pastas like this, been a few years since I've been there though.

Pasta is a base . Anyone can do whatever the **** they want to add to it . Just like rice . For me while i admire the modern variations of recipes, i don't admire the attempts to rewrite the history of them. Anyway food , like music etc . is a very subjective discussion, as i guess you well understand .
Cool story Mr. Spaghetti Man! But do you think maybe you could have directed this rant at the people who claimed you can't have bolognese with spaghetti..? I just asked what else it's used for!

Having said that, if you choose rice for your bolognese, you are an ignorant philistine.

Blaming this season on culture is bullshit. It would be like saying last year the players inherited the culture from the 50's. All the poor seasons before Roos and Jackson took over are irrelevant. Bar a few players there is no one left from that era. Current players would barely know Melbourne's past history unless they barracked for the club. The pre Roos toxic culture is a thing of the past and if we do slip back it is the current coaching and playing groups fault.

The veil of negativity is real though. Shit as we have undoubtedly been, people here are talking about sacking the captains, trading good players, gutting the list. We definitely don't have the plot armour to keep calm and carry on.

Yeah, but where is your recipe mate? Bloody hell!!

I didn’t blame this season on culture, I said that Roos and the administration fixed that up. I said I hope it was a blemish and not a permanent representation of status quote.

I am talking about moving on a player who is struggling and struggles to keep up with modern footy, look whether there’s a place for him next year is irrelevant to what I think. I know Lewis is done and I know to get a rolls Royce midfielder we need to trade for them.

Gonna need you to add a DP so I can stop confusing you for Topkent.

The ‘culture’ of a bunch of naturally tending negative Internet forum types has nothing to do with whatever the environment is amongst players, coaches and other staff though.

Pfft, whatever ... next you'll tell me the coaches don't actually pay attention to our team selection advise ...

Club culture obviously means a bit, but its pretty tiresome seeing it get trotted out whenever we suck (or alternatively, whenever another side suddenly goes well). Ranking club culture amongst Big Footy posters would strangely correlate well with ladder position, I'd think.

Culture I don’t know

I definitely feel we have shitty on field leadership most of the time though

Can you have a great culture combined with ineptitude and shit decision making?

Cause that’s what we appear to have

I’ve worked in many different organisations over the years, and culture is what I would describe as the following from my personal experience particularly in managerial roles;

An underlying set of values, beliefs, behaviours and thought processes that underpin an organisation from an intangible perspective. Culture is driven at an executive or senior management level.

The way the MFC conducted themselves post 2006 was culture based. Collective senior figures concluded that tanking and acquisition of draft selections would promote a successful environment whilst moving on key senior players and ‘rebuilding’ the club.

All this did was set a status quo of a loser mentality so much so that Brock McLean openly bemoaned the club and its practices for it. It was blatantly obvious that the club was fractured during the back end of the Bailey era and then totally split apart with Neeld.

Anyone that thinks that culture isn’t an identifiable intangible structure within an organisation that impacts behaviours really isn’t too sure how critical it is. It isn’t made up by people on footy forums, it’s real and impactful.

I am not saying NOW we have a bad culture, but up until 2013 and the end of Neeld we did. We have structural and on field issues, but we did have a really bad workplace environment for a good 7 years that’s only now seen us come out of the mire. Now we have to work our our on field concerns re personnel and game plan.

Culture is a bit of a buzz word but we clearly don't develop players aswell as other clubs.
It’s become so overused that it’s a buzzword, but on its own it’s actually relevant. It’s fair to say our culture for 7 years was sub par and there was a standard accepted that was not professional.

But I agree with you comment re development of players. In order for us to be a force and win premierships, there’s a lot that needs to happen.

No Cannon82 was spot on, culture is directly related to ladder position.
