Happy with the effort considering the huge gap in average of games played. Missing a few key personnel.

Happy to see the same nervous mouth breather morf nelbourne nonces running their fingers in this thread. Going to be interesting seeing the age/game differential against them next week considering their geriatric age.
Go dogs, future is bright!

The dogs were better on the ground, being harder at the contest, but Geelong dominated the air.
First quarter high scoring when it was more or less man on man, after that, when both sides had the spares in defence, the cats seemed to handle that a lot better. Dogs did not look threatening going forward with long kicks, they looked better running it in. But they didn't do that enough. Also dogs ran much harder in the first quarter and probably tired a bit.

Geelong kicked more than usual and that helped, particularly with the nature of the match ups.

Bulldogs are mid table on the injury list as of yesterday. Hawks have lost a lot of games missed but still keep keeping on. Interesting that Adelaide and Geelong have both been pretty lucky.

Great article that one.

Pies have been cruelled by the loss of Scharenberg and Ramsay. Hoping Michael and Jason can get back on the park for them ASAP.

I thought the dogs played pretty well for the most part, I think they are missing a good quality ruckman, not sure if Campbell or Roughead will be that player in the future or not, but I think it has been a bit of a hinderance this year.

Geelong are so reliant on Dangerwood it's not funny

If you lot get Higgins, Wright and a few others back and Goldstein can shake his niggles off then who knows, I wouldn't want to play North in a semi for any of those if they come in at full strength or close to it

Yeah, very good players do that, they make a team much better than they are without them, great players are good at taking pressure off lesser players, when they aren't around or are struggling with injuries or tagged then players who aren't used to carrying that load often struggle to step up. It is why a good even team doesn't need as much luck with injuries as one that relies on their marquee players to win.

We still have Garner out for a week, Higgins is 3 weeks away, Jacobs 2 weeks, McDonald 3 weeks, Wright 2 weeks, Waite should be back, Wood is looking dodgy at 6 weeks. Assuming there are no lengthy setbacks we should get most of them back and playing a bit of footy before finals, the unknown is what kind of form they will be in after missing large chunks of the season.

There are currently 4 interstate teams between our clubs and Geelong, it's not looking pretty for finals...

The frees were soft Cloke Buddy Riewoldt would kick 100 a year if they got looked after like that.

Riewoldt does get looked after like that.

The frees were there, it's exactly what you'd expect to happen with Boyd having such a size advantage.

I look forward to a long career of defenders needing to chop his arms because they can't reach the ball

Good game, worthy of the timeslot
Cats took their chances more than the Dogs.
Those long bombs into the Bullies forward line need to go, at least when the are against quality, marking defenders

This Cats team is funny. They have the feeling of a team that could breeze through into the grand final or just as easily fall out in straight sets.

The Dogs were more impressive for mine but didn't take their chances that their opponents did. Injuries didn't help their cause.

I was under no illusions this was going to be a hard fought game and win ( I picked the Cats by 8 points) I've liked the Dogs all year, i still do, teams can work wonders under adversity and they showed a lot of heart. Geelong's troubles now begin with matches against Essendon, Richmond, Brisbane and Melbourne to end the season, this is where they usually fall down! All of these games are 50/50 IMO.

I don't understand why the Bulldogs didn't select Will Minson last night. In those conditions he would've been more then ideal to crash and bash and throw his weight around, similar to Shane Mumford who can physically wear you down.

By playing Will Minson, it then allows Jordan Roughead to play either as a key defender or key forward giving the Dogs better height coverage around the ground.

Sadly the Big Will is cooked.. He has a debilitating lower back issue that has cruelly hampered him for the last 18 months and is struggling to stay on top of it.. Would not have made one iota of a difference, Campbell missing does impact our structure

Fair enough. I didn't really know about his back issues and how bad it was. It's sad seeing him finishing his career in the VFL like this.

I know right? Genuine NFI how we will go in finals.
