And the losses continue to mount as the rebuild grinds on and on and on.
Never believed the hawks were tanking but it’s hard to accept they haven’t got better defensive options than Frost and Bramble.
Hard yards indeed for a rookie coach …
aged like milk.
though i guess a carlton supporter would have an eye for tanking.

I think it is time to close this thread now. Yeah we're still 16th on the ladder but with a little bit of composure + luck we could just as easily be inside the 8
Nah, leave it open.

Ride the bumps with a grin.

:D

I like your enthusiasm and I like the general gist behind your post, but I think you're drawing a long bow with the "inside the 8" call.
Even if we won the 4 close games vs Richmond, Adelaide, and Giants (x2), we would still be 10 wins, 10 losses with a percentage in the 80's.
But that would be flattering, considering all the times we've been blown away

It's the good teams who show composure and win the close ones. We've still got a ways to go.

Hopefully next year, we'll eliminate those quarters when everything falls apart and the opposition destroys us with 5-6 goals in a 10 minute burst. Or games where it's basically over before half time (or early in the 3rd) and the opposition puts the cue in the rack. Too many games like that this year when things went right off the rails.

Rd 1 v Ess (Q2, Q3)
Rd 2 v Sydney (Q1,2,3)
Rd 4 v Geelong (Q3,4)
Rd 8 v Freo (Q1,2,3)
Rd 9 v Melb (Q1,2)
Rd 12 v Port (Q1,2)
Rd 15 v Goldy (Q1,2)
Rd 16 v Carlton (Q1,2)
Rd 19 v Richmond (Q4)
Rd 20 v Saints (Q1)

That's the hallmark of a bad team. i.e. young, inexperienced and lacking in on-field leadership. That's no slight on our leaders. We just need more of them. We have about 10 guys with 30 games or fewer; and we have another 5 or 6 guys who've played around 50-60 games. Give them all another season or two, another 20-40 games and we'll see some real improvement.

Slobbo reckons we’re nasty and scary.

Could just be that he has the sweats from his last bender though.

Just not seeing it. Even on the weekend we only started getting in Daicos after Josh came in. A nasty team would have been bumping and annoying him from the start

We do have size in the middle but none really have that nasty edge. Nash and Newcombe use it to more get the ball out of contested areas than to try and hurt the opposition

Nasty doesn't mean getting into blokes off the ball, its all about going hard at the ball or man in play.

They might have at the start of the season with Harley in mind but then it was obvious that Norths & West Coast were worse there was not much point.

Having a great run injury wise has also helped in the rebuild, beating Collingwood on the weekend topped of what has been a fairly good 2023.

Rate him and want him to be Chris Scott’s successor. Therefore I hope the rebuild doesn’t work out for Sam Mitchell and he gets sacked.

If I could take a coach with zero credits in the bank then it’s McRae or Mitchell. Credits being finals wins

No, this was never the case.

A 4 time flag winner doesn’t plan to lose.

The thing that annoys me most is that he keeps trying to claim that saying "it's a form of tanking" was not heavily implying we were tanking.

Like mate just have the guts to admit that is what you meant.

He can keep claiming it’s a form of tanking, as it is his opinion. it just confirms my belief that his opinion is a form of lower intelligence

Imagine if we'd kept Tom & Jaeger. We'd still be 16th, just with less wins and a year behind in development.

this is the actual point most miss.

we are improving & moving fwd with a nice little high end pick. the decisions were CORRECT when all the bottom feeders thought differently.

weasels like DB need to take their medicine.

fair play to Korn who saw the light early & has jumped on board.
