With our young mids improving by the day I would love to see Bergman in the middle next season.
Rozee Butters JHF Bergman Drew.
Could we trade out Wines for a first round pick. He is 28 and would improve other midfield Gold Coast ?
I know some will hate this idea but I believe we can cover him plus it gets us back into the first round.

I wonder how likely this floated veterans list is to come in for next season.

It'd be good for Boak - assuming he's not on all that much anymore, him playing on isn't taking a list spot. And there's nobody else eligible for a few years.

I'd think we'll get an announcement this week that he's either re-signed or retiring, ahead of the last home game. Likely giving TJ clear air today if he's signed. Unless, of course, he hasn't made a decision yet.
It’s not announced yet and it is Wednesday before our last game, he is playing on in 2024.

Which I am all for, however we need to get 10-15 games into Jackson next year, criminal he hasn’t had a taste already this year.

ZT would be ok as that third-tall (Jonas) kind of slot, especially if we are going to utilise Bergman a bit different next year. I still think we need that lock down KPD though to tie everything together

or he's saving that card for a perfectly timed "AFL fairytale" wave for Port to sweep the AFL match fixing committee

Didnt bzt just have 9 goals kicked on him by Hogan, contrast that to week before where our old hack jonas kept him to one. BZT is definitely not a KPD , at best 2nd probably 3rd defender.
Rata really worries me , having watched him more closely this year, he is going to need stacks of development and is still injury prone.

Whilst I'm ok with going after these guys , they may not be the answers and come with alot of risk and cost. Wonder if Mckay is still out of consideration , 800k is alot of money but he may be the best KPD offering.

A revamped back line of Aliir, BZT and Esava is ten times better than what we currently have and completely refreshes our KPD stocks.

Gives us 3 tall defenders 195cm and taller. With our team defence game, that's a decent amount of tall coverage. With Marshall at 200cm developing in the 2s behind them.

How far away are our young defenders from cracking into our team 1,2 or 3 seasons

Jake Pasini without the knee injury would have probably played last year, but this year has looked even further away.

Kyle Marshall you would think at least another season, but you can't be sure with development of tall mobile players.

Tom McCallum is progressing nicely, but would need a bit of a leap in progress to play next year. But again that could happen. He's looked more assured as the year has gone on.

GWS had 70 inside 50s, that's getting close to one a minute. Hogan also only kicked 1.1 in the first quarter and a half, and then started piling on goals once the Essendon player's had clearly all checked out realising their season was well and truly over. I wouldn't read anything into that match.

BZT isn't a superstar, but he's solid enough. And at 24 and 50 games, there's still scope for him to become a very serviceable second KPD for us.

Not convinced, BZT and Esava look very ordinary to me. The advantages are that they're younger and taller and potentially gettable, but I don't think they improve our backline much in terms of quality. They may improve but man, they'd need to. Not much gettable quality around of course, so I suppose it'll be a case of grabbing what's available and hoping for the best.

It's funny the last couple of years I've read plenty of posts about getting Ratugolea and Zerk-Thatcher. Now it looks like we could get them I see plenty of posts saying No don't want them!

But nobody wants to stump up $750K a year for Ben McKay either. Too much, do not want!

It's just bizarre, you'd think tall defenders were growing on trees and no one else was looking for them.

Thr veteran list as a tool for the list spot rather than a place to get extra salary cap room I'm all for

Especially since coching funds has been squeezed

What are your thoughts Macca19 on him as a player?

I was all in on him about 3ish years ago. Now…i think hes had an alright year with one horrendous game where everyone had a horrendous game.

195cm, good age bracket. If we replace Clurey and Jonas on the list with Rat and Zerk, you’d be pretty happy with that i reckon

Cool thanks. Yeah they both are of a good age profile and height. Our current backline are aging and are overdue for a refresh. I hope Marshall develops into that agile tall defender we love to see.
