Butters and Rozee don't get their pay rises until 2025. I would think that we could pretty easily frontend McKay's contract to the point he's getting $700k-$800k a year averaged out but with the majority of that coming next year.

Everyone wins. Norf get their high pick, we get our full back without giving up trade capital, McKay gets to play for a club where he'll probably win more than 7 of his next 63 games.

I heard somewhere tom McDonald could be gettable
Started as a defender and wasn’t to bad and is down the pecking order at Melbourne
He’s older so could come cheap but could fill a defensive spot for a couple of years

We need A graders not B graders or worse

Someone who can win their position most weeks

I don’t know what the point of getting a ready back up ruck is unless we’re losing both of lycett and Hayes.

We need a quality 1st ruck, not a limited mature backup (and if we wanted that dude we could keep Hayes for absolute peanuts)

lol imaging having and playing him over Hayes

I think the AFL season is too short for a mid-season trade period. But we know this is about clicks and eyeballs to maximise media returns. Nothing to do with lists management.
If it is done all on one week, with the mid-season draft following, then sure.

Only if it means all the byes can be taken at once.

If the option is between getting one of esava / Mackay on supposed big coin and having to trade for esava half of what the media thinks we have to

Versus get young for peanuts from Carlton

I would go for the second option.

Get young for peanuts

And our kpd roster looks like

Alir , McKenzie, pasini , young , Marshall , MacCallum.

It’s not superstars but it’s serviceable, there’s plenty of height and youth there which we didn’t have a couple of years ago..

.. and best of all we have **** all salary committed there in that group and can make a big offer to a key defender worth that money… Charlie Ballard.

Go after him in 2024 a year before free agency and see if gcs bite and if not again as a free agent in 2025.

I also think we should be deep into targeting will patton in the draft who’s about as great a fit for the way our backline plays as anyone we could ever hope to find. If he slides out of the top 20 we should trade that pies 2nd up a few spots to take him imo.

Surely Darcy fort is not the young Queensland based ruckman spoken of earlier in this thread. We have to aim higher than that.

Thats interesting. We've heard all year Lycett might be out the door, chasing Fort would confirm it.

He had 29 hitouts vs 36 for Gawn in last years semi-final + they won the game, so he can probably hold his own as a full time ruck.

What’s the early opinion on Marshall & MacCullum? I know Marshall was speculative & raw as they come, & MacCallum looked good overhead in some of his highlight footage, but I wouldn’t consider him a KPD.

Jon Ralph mentioned around a month back that Ben Mckay will be getting offers of 600-650k

If its risen to 800k in that time inflation is really out of control

Marshall gets interesting next year but the year after is when you would have real expectations of him. Was a 3-4 year project when we drafted him nothing has changed.

McCallum we want from him what Bergman is doing. He's not far off clicking in the sanfl and on the improve. Can see him getting games next year.

FA money is usually inflated and McKay was 800 Ks at the start of the year and then dropped now his management is pumping it up again. Upside is you don't spend half a million dollars in developing the player and you know what you have.

I'm not sure if 800ks is a lot once the new players deal is finalised? 800ks tomorrow might be what 600ks is today.

Lol no one in their right mind is offering that sort of coin for Ben McKay.

He's only managed more than 15 games in a season once. Doesn't do anything with the ball, less than 10 disposals a game. Pure defensive stopper and he's not even the best at that. Has size but that's about it. Only well known because of Harry.

0 Brownlow votes in his career. Never mentioned in AA squad of 40 discussions or even close.
Is 25 so should supposedly be in his prime. But has been that average that his value has actually gone DOWN this year.

I'd still take him for a packet of stale chips but I'm not paying him 650k when we have a raft of young players that will need fat new contracts soon.
