Thank * Tassie is finally getting a team should have happened years ago and well before GCS and GWS

On a side not i am already seeing certain clubs fans demand to not have to play in Tassie:mad:.
Totally agree with that - and it will be fantastic when they play their 1st AFL game

As for the name - forget all the corny rubbish - you want to give it a big strong bold name

Thus i would go with The Tasmanian Spirit - like theve got that big Ocean Liner - The Spirit of Tasmania - had a few trips on that - basically South Melbourne to Devenport

It's great to see Tassie get a team at long last.

But there's a lot to play out before 2028. I just hope the new board (when appointed) will consult with the Tasmanian people as they build the brand in terms of logos, colors/design, song, name, etc. Some of these things seem already sorted, but (like Tassie Devils) there will be negotiations and objections that will arise. It would be great if they could sign up 50,000 members by 2028.

I was surprised to hear that Tasmanian players would be allowed to play for the new team, presumably given priority in the draft to stay at home. I'm not sure how the other interstate players would feel about that, given they're not given a choice on where they are drafted. The AFLPA may have something to say there.

The next few years will be full of bumps and blips as they build this team. Can't wait to watch the journey.

The AFL has operated for decades on going where the money is, not where the supporter base is if that makes sense. Real equity is an illusion. Same with major sponsor Qantas and most others sadly.

Tassie had a VFL team called the Devils, not really sure what has changed since, any Warner Brothers trademark would have pre dated that.

Commerical $$$$

Tasmania's Under 18 team is now called the Devils, but there'd be minimal commercial value linked to that team, and unlikely to be much value for Warner Bros to go after them

But AFL teams have more of a commercial side to them, and thus could be seen as competing with Warner Bros for dollars made off the Tasmania Devil identity

The AFL will need their trademark to cover all the huge, diverse range of ancillary products, not just the jumpers, and that's where they'll run into a conflict with WB, which will already have their TM covering most, if not all, of these classes of product

Does that mean a cartoon Devil logo is out

They have the Holy Spirit as their mascot

Rather than fighting Warner Bros for the use of the Tasmania Devils moniker, surely the new team should be going after Richmond to take over the use of the moniker, Tigers

Sure, the thylacine lived on the mainland at one stage but it's most commonly known at the Tasmanian Tiger, and that's the location in which it last lived

Who else wants to see that happen 😎

Might have to fight their state cricket team too.

I know they commentary is all upbeat ... and the positivity around the team from and in Tasmania is great... they finally have a team ... although it will be a long time even before we see any team on the ground...

the constant reference to kids not having to leave Tasmania ... seem counter to the idea of submitting to the national draft. Not every kid in Victoria stays in Victoria etc.. Not every Tassy kid will end up playing for Tas.

Its like they almost feel its a state of origin side... use Devils, use the state of origin jumper which will have to be altered as it will not pass muster to be used each week...it will probably cause clashes with someone.

Perhaps the excitment of the entry is understandable... once they actually see them playing in the VFL the reality may be more obvious. If they can build a competitive side from day one with half Tas players they will be doing well.

Jimmy Bartel winding up Eddie on footy crappified about him getting rid of the cost of living allowance and Eddie got verrrrrry defensive. Good work Jim.

MGuire has a point ... They crap on about Cola ..Cost of living yet they did not ensure the players on the least money got it. They put it all into the top end for recruitment of players like Buddy. If the bottom end need Cola fine .. divide it up and give it to each individual player and coach
