We are so used to simple easy solutions these days it's hard to spin an investment
The West Wing had a whole episode on 10 word answers, and their importance in political messaging but that was 25 years ago, rather than building an idea, one can be killed using 4 letter words, hell I used a three letter one that would have been more than enough.

It is clear that the AFL's rights requirement has outgrown what any coalition of Australian media companies can afford.

Maybe but you don't pick someone that doesn't have the infrastructure or the expertise to deliver it properly.

So how does he negotiate the purchase of a media asset in the West?!
It seems there are not sanctions against him in the West (he is a USA and UK citizen too!), just from Ukraine. Also he does donate big to the USA political parties (mainly Republicans), so that helps I assume!
But he does have ties with people that are sanctioned by the West.

A few weeks ago, I found myself in a used book store, I was reading from a book published in the 70s, whose topic was focused on the housing affordablity issues of the day, it explored how their has aways been a housing shortage since federation.

No government action in that area could really make a dent into it in the short term (won't stop people holding the goverenment accountable), especially as it is a large portion of nations retirement savings. I think the government creating an education to employment pipeline focused on construction, through a public corporation, harking back to the post ww2 construction boom, is probably our best bet, using a land tax of some kind to funds it. Can't see that winning an election though.

I'm not sure I agree with that.
The government can't completely solve the housing problem (as some of it is linked to where interest rates and broader financial markets are at and the govt can't control that).
But there's a lot it can do.

For example where I live down near Phillip Island there are dozens of good houses but they are simply kept vacant for air b Nb use as the tax system encourages it. Government should be bringing in legislation taxing vacant properties and limiting how many days per year you can air b Nb (you shouldn't leave it up to local councils who have self interest).
They absolutely should amend or abolish negative gearing and while the housing future fund is a start its nowhere near enough.
They need to invest far more in public housing stock particularly in the regions.

They also need to significantly address the lack of training options in regional areas (because I've worked in the recruitment space I see this every day) for young people to train for the building and construction sector (they have done this to a degree in capital cities but they haven't done it in the regions) by investing directly in more training hubs than they are.
They also need to address service delivery (particularly in access to appropriate hospital and health care and child care) in rural areas so that qualified trades with kids will actually move there because at the moment they won't and this is a key reason why not enough houses are being built.

The problem is the government won't address the tax issues because they don't want wealthy baby boomers booting them out and they either lack the skills or will to address the supply side issues.
But there's a lot they could do.

Unfortunately with something like housing you almost need an expert panel that will make evidence based investment decisions in these areas across the country and take it out of the government's hands-so politics doesn't get in the way. But I don't expect that to happen.

If the question was between a good product and an extra $100 million a year, they'd pick the money.

It is why Rugby Union is struggling, why cricket broadcasting is all over the place.

My fear is the sport being segregated over mutliple paywalls held by different companies.

Great post, I'll skip a detailed resposnes as I forgot that this is a football forum. It is aways intersting to read the perspectives of someone closer to the ground of an issue then myself (I have neither education or expierence in any related fields), it kind of reinforces that while it is possible that something could be done, any real solution would require an ambition that I don't think this country is capable of at this moment.

Foxtel has been sold

****ing great. Total first world issues but now it’s gonna cost more and be less effective.
They’ll gut the tech involved and outsource it all overseas to tech support that has no clue.

And Fox was shit.. the devil you know and all

Go Catters ..
