Autopsy Positives and Negatives vs GC

Mackenzie was a champ for the club and unlucky not to be AA at least once, but the game's beyond him now. Not even worth retaining as depth.

He plays one on one which you have to if you want to win finals, playing off your man as we do doesn't work in big games. It makes McGovern and co look like stars every few weeks but is the wrong way to play to be a great side.

Jetta has been dropped 5 or 6 times since he has come across? He's on his last chance. He hasn't warranted a contract extension yet.

Change your tactic, its tiresome and boring.

Have a look at Priddis & Lecras from today, hell even Liam and Cripps.

Just leave Jetts the **** alone, its pathetic.

Priddis is a liability. He can't keep being played.
Duggan has zero confidence to take the game on.. His first thought is to handball and that's ****ed. He's obviously modelled his game on Priddis. Where's this type of player below gone??? We've Eagle-midfielded the shit out of him..

Darling didn't hit the scoreboard, but had 2-3 guys raping him all day. The coaches need to address this with their forward set-up.
There's so many more negatives, but i'm still so angry. Was it the first quarter where Gov took a mark on the defensive 50 and telegraphed a handball to Mitchell for about 5 seconds so that 4 GC players could tackle him straight away? Set the scene for the whole day...

Who said anything about contract extensions? Jetta has been one of our best over the last fortnight and should continue to get a game based on those performances.

Also strange you would even defend Darlings rubbish performance today. It's clear he has no capacity of being the number one forward. I wont advocate him being dropped because we have no alternative.

The game was lost in the midfield. Jetta must be flamed. Don't like it? Put on block... don't read.

Priddis has multiple threads calling for his retirement. He has for years.

Sure, there is the delivery from the midfield which is ordinary but when he actually is in a position to contest the ball he continually either a)falls over, b)appeals for a free kick or, c) falls over and appeals for a kick at the same time. He doesn't apply enough defensive pressure. Did you see in the last quarter when he was on the far wing? He went for a grab, fell over and then started writhing around on the turf like some kind of speared tuna fish, whilst clutching his forehead. Two minutes later he was in the goal square - where he fell over again. Not to mention regulation chest marks that just bounce of his chest - that was nothing to do with delivery. His endeavour and intent are very questionable imo.

Look, I don't dispute the guy has bucket loads of talent, but he just does not deliver on it - and he hasn't for several years now. Needs a spell in the twos at the very least. I'm more than happy to see him traded and if he succeeds at another club, all power to him. Right now the arrangement is not working for either party.
I do see a few of those types of incidents but more often then not I see him create a contest then lay a tackle because the opposition has crumbed the ball

Positives:

Sheed - A couple of really good games in a row.
Jetta - backing up last week with that
Petrie - Surprising effort from him and better than anything I saw him produce as a forward for North over the last 2 years.

Negatives:

That it should be painstakingly obvious that the core of this group is not up to it mentally. They haven't been for some time and you need to make changes to that. Backing in the same mature players and dropping the fringe around them, or expecting the fringe to be the difference between some bog average games and producing anything that resembles Top4 footy is just plain dumb.
Its there, its been there for a few years now. Especially after you have a Grand Final result like we did and that it didn't make the players burn the following year to produce tougher footy means changes needed to be made. Instead we have shuffled deck chairs and overtime we have come against Hawthorn at the MCG we have put in carbon copy performances.
Then if that wasn't enough the loss in the Elim final last year should have been the bit of 4x2 across the face needed to wake up to it. Yes the Bulldogs were good and yes they went on to win but its the way this team goes about it when things aren't going their way and it was another 2015 GF performance.

The games we are losing are not being helped by team selection. I feel as though a lot of the game is already lost on paper some weeks. This week felt like it. There was no need to race Lecras back. Despite what we keep being told about Darling his lack of confidence as a player is there for all to see. I understand this week would not have been the week to rest him but its not as if he hasn't been playing this way since last year.
If you are going to say Masten has had shit games and isn't up to it at the moment then surely you can see the curly haired momentum killer with Auskick skills?
Gaff is cruising. I said it earlier in the year and he may be playing with an injury as he can't pick a footy below his knees but his chases are useless and for a outside player who can't be relied upon to do the tough stuff his offensive game is a slap with a wet lettuce leaf for the opposition. Often kills our momentum with dinky kicks or turning around back onto his left as he asked for the ball on his right hand side and then realises he has no right foot. One pace, one sided with no agility.

A mature team should win more than it loses but it will eventually go the way North Melbourne did with lots of nearly good enoughs and then staring at the abyss re list management.

Wasn't wholly referring to your Jetta comments, more your habit of being an outlier with your observations.

You wont be blocked, just so I can continue to see how stupid your posts really are.

You started to show some promise too, but this just takes the cake.

Anyone read the article in today's The Weekend Australian (p42) referring to us as stagnant and a team going nowhere? Very detailed analysis of our lack of development of younger players.
We have definitely wasted too many of our top picks on players just because they wanted to come home, has meant we havent had much access to the talent you can get with those picks.

Priddis has multiple threads calling for his retirement. He has for years.

Jetta played mainly across the back today and rebounded several times directly for goals. When he was in the mid he was one of the few consistently at the bottom of the packs (which I never thought I'd see the day).

Seems like an absurd takeaway from today that Jetta was in some way an issue.

Let's actually talk about some of our youth (at least the ones that get some games).
Nelson - Average as can be (I know people wont agree). Has the disposal of a defender. The only thing he has going for him is his youth and some aggression.
Duggan - Dont know what happened to him after his first season but his disposal is shocking now. Priddis-esque. I hate seeing the ball in his hands especially for a i50 entry. His handballs arent great either.
Sheed - Dont know if he still qualifies as youth but he's the goods.

So that's basically what we've got going for us.

We've got a few senior players who are past it i.e. Priddis, Lecras and Butler. And a whole lot of nothing coming through to replace them.

Slightly unrelated note: Watching Hurn play frustrates me. Either Im not seeing his elite kicking on display or it's seriously overrated.

I just feel empty after a loss these days. It feels like I am watching a soulless entity. The players are robots with no passion or intensity.

Darling is a shaddow of the player he used to be, I had no faith that he would stand up today. He is just an average player and that's all he'll ever be. Keep your feet and attack the ****ing ball instead of looking for frees.

Lecras is cooked, no goals in three games. He didn't need to be rushed back.

Priddis is done. He can't keep up with opposition players. He can't defend.

Gaff is one dimentional and not actually that good.

Duggan hasn't improved since his first season. He doesn't look like improving, what has happened to him.

Sheed and Yeo were good.

The only thing I don't get is why drop Karpany after he shows something after his first game in a year or so. Why not try Lamb before we delist him. Even Mutimer, true he hasn't done anything really of note at the AFL level but he probably wouldn't give you that much less then a hutchings or masten

Again, I thought he played a good game I thought. How many did T Lynch kick? For a change didn't see hime lose many one on ones if any, didn't turn it over with his usual shocking kick. Thought he was decent.

Agree there. I thought Mackenzie played quite well too.

Those are all unknowns that probably deserve to get more games but Simmo will play favourites and gift games to the senior players and really only rotate the reddens, mastens, jettas and hutchings of the team.

Honestly I dont even see why we play Mitchell. He's better than a few useless players in our team but he's not making any real impact. At least not the impact we expected.

I had some serious positives. And some serious negatives.
+ sheed is a genuine quality AFL on baller now. We have him and shuey going forward, just need to find a couple more. His kicking lately has been sublime and production good when given the opportunity.
+ YEO is an absolute star anywhere on the field, we just need two or three of him.
+ Petrie was a mini master stroke. He plays with so much more heart than our other players and shows genuine leadership. Stepped up big time today around the ground, in the ruck and up forward. Issue is hes 34 and his career is almost over.
+ Jetta has played with more heart and skill and been good last few weeks. Hopefully he maintains it.

Negatives
- lecras is finished. He's so slow and weak these days and doesn't run. We get smashed the other way with him and he's not even looking like kicking goals anymore. He should retire.
- Priddis, I thought Simpson experimented today with Priddis around the ground and not in the centre bounces all the time. It worked for structures but not for Priddis who had his worst game in a long time. It's sad because he has fight few do in our team but is just too limited with his pace and disposal. We need to phase him out and let sheed and anyone else play full time mid.
- darling, you are a weak pos, you were double teamed today but your effort was so poor and you just feigned for free kicks. Scary thing is him and JK are the only things we have close to afl quality KPFs and JK doesn't have long left. I think we need a KPF this draft. The gov jnr would be a good get so we at least have a marking forward going into the future.
- cripps he's a front runner that doesn't run a lot or chase. Harbrow made him look slow today, hopefully he is injured.
- duggan been bad for so long and the fact he's still getting games shows how poor our drafting has been in recent years. He's a waste of a first rounder.

We have the shell of a premiership team in JK, NN, GOV, SHOO and YEO but we are old and need to do a mini rebuild real fast if we are ever a chance at one in the next few years.

I'm confident if Duggan was at another club with better influence around him he would be a very good young player right now.

You make a good point. Our development needs to be looked at as we struggle to get good kids to get better.

Sheed is the standout at the moment,. He has really matured as a player and only has goal kicking as something that needs to be worked on.

Positives:
+ Sheed was fantastic
+ Yeo continues his elite form
+ Petrie was impressive in that last quarter
+ Vardy competed well
+ Jetta was impressive

Negatives:
- The Vic-centric media will have a field day
- Our worst performance for the year, easily
- We dropped a must win game
- Darling
- Nelson had a below average game
- LeCras
- More ****ing fuel for the overly negative posters on here, making for some shocking reading.
- Our backline played its worst game this season today

I think it's gone. And it's a big reason we don't look as quick or dangerous on the rebound anymore. When was the last time he pinpointed a 50m pass? Hell, he barely even kicks it 50m anymore. Mostly chips or handballs.
