Shit I'm looking forward to seeing Laird out there again. Criminally underappreciated player.
Underappreciated by who? AA squad last year, near unanimous pick for AA this year before he got injured, BnF winner* :(. I mean, I love the bloke, but he's pretty highly rated by most.

Match ups in centre?
Dylan Sheil-Rory Sloane
Callan Ward-Brad Crouch/Thomo
Toby Greene-Matt Crouch
Tom Scully-Seedsman/smith
Josh Kelly/Whitfield- Atkins/CC
Mumford-Sauce

20 disposals, 7 contested, 13 uncontested certainly helps with the 90% DE stat ...in a low pressure game...career average DE 64.4%. Pardon me if I don't get too excited just yet. He was OK today, but we really need a big lift in the "engine room" and I really didn't see too much of that...
If the selection committee are fair dinkum Douglas would go before Jarryd, maybe even Thommo but we know that won't happen...we must win more in the engine room to feed it out to the runners...

Our engine room is getting smashed too easily, too often..

Sloane 10 CP
Thompson 11 CP
Douglas 5 CP
Lyons 7 CP
Atkins 10 CP
Cameron 10 CP

Prestia 13 CP
Lonergan 18 CP
Rischitelli 15 CP
You do get more contested possessions if you are under pressure and getting spanked

Interesting. Campo described that decision as being really smart. "We've made a decision and, as a group, we think we're really smart. We make really good decisions. We're really smart." What a furking idiot that guy is.

Yet they selected spuds like VB and Hendo.

Backs:
Talia-Cameron
Hartigan-Lobb
Lever-Patton
Cheney-Johnson
Brown-Williams
Smith(VB if playing)-Whitfield/resting mid

Wonder if we would roll the dice and upgrade ROB to play on Rory Lobb and give Sauce a chop out at stages in the game

Also Betts, Cameron and Milera must share a midfield rotation.

The midfield was noticeably different with those guys in there instead of Sloane + 2 plodders (I'm counting Douglas as a slow player atm).

Unfortunately Cameron ran out of juice but Betts was fantastic in there also (prob our best mid during his cameos). I'd give Milera maybe 20% for his experience as well.

Kelly andc
Lyons' lowering of the eyes and delivering the ball inside 50 is just anout better than anyone else in the team. Millera and Tex are better. All other midfilders blaze or miss.

Noble said yesterday he needs to string together 4 or 5 good games. Well stop dropping him and leave him in the side you smeghead!

You know, quotation marks are meant to indicate actual quotations.

No doubt our midfield needs to lift, and Lyons is not immune there. But he more than held his own yesterday and deserves another go. I'd love to see how he goes against the Giants. As you say though, it seems unlikely that Douglas or Thommo will be dropped/rested and if either of the Crouch brothers is to come back in, it's hard to see who else goes out first without seriously upsetting team balance... It's an interesting one...

Wouldn't be surprised if both Crouch brothers are too miss again this week.
Pyke probably has the mindset of, you win then minimal changes.

If Lairds right to go he'll come in for VB.
If not then there'll be no changes

If Matt was rested due to soreness than I would expect that he comes back in

He does play well against GWS and we need to win the inside battle

The only way we win is if the GWS have an off night and we play a "home ground" blinder, and kick straight. Their talent and spread across the ground will quite literally destroy us if they're switched on.
We'll need to have a game like we did against the Swans. Maniac pressure when we don't have the ball and then fast precise ball movement when we do have it

No doubt that we need to bring our best game

If we can do it against Sydney there is no reason why we can't get the points against GWS

Can't see Brouch being any chance next week. Too much egg on the face of the selectors. They will cut off their own nose just to avoid it.

As for MCrouch, soreness turned into 4 weeks for his brother so he's no certainty.

We're likely to get a spanking this week, but it might finally be the wake up call selectors need to start to get some speed into the mid.

The problem is that we have no speed to bring in either.
(Hampton the only one but he is many weeks away).

Yesterday we did see Betts and Charlie start in the centre square on occasions so I assume that both players will continue to play this role
