The Good:
For two quarters they can look like the best team in the competition.

The Bad:
For two quarters they can look like the worst team in the competition.

Changes:
Marchbank for Charlie (McGovern to stay forward)
Kennedy for Fasolo (Cripps to rest forward)

Prediction:
If they can play 3 good quarters it will be enough to beat Sydney.

The fact Sydney have scored 65 and 62 points gives us a big chance.

Marchbank for Charlie is an intriguing option - how do you see the team lining up?

I am pretty comfortable with all your points. I guess I am still feeling frustrated with the loss, and hoping a few more things go our way. There is no doubt. Port had more poise and experience, when it counted.

That is a good sign, last year the feeling was despondency and resignation, this year the blues are playing well enough to give us hope, the downside is when those hopes are dashed by minor errors and errant umpiring (no doubt we got some dodgy ones as well) it leads to frustration.

Maybe time for some changes.

Garlett needs more time to hone his craft in the VFL but I'm not sure who comes up to replace him.

Ed needs more midfield minutes, his skills aren't translating to his forward work.

I sure hope Kreuzer gets back quick. We're doing fine in the ruck but losing it around the ground.

I have no solutions.

Shumacher? Does he have pace? I have not seen much of him. Anyone??

Marchbank hopefully not far away

We're on the same page.
PS. I am picking Carlton to beat Swans by 19 points.

I'd play Marchbank as a defender in the role McGovern played against PA when the heat was on, i.e. intercept marking down back and also pushing up to the wings as a marking target. McGovern would stay forward.

I'd also play Fisher forward instead of Fasolo with short spurts through the middle. Kennedy would provide a chop out for Cripps, so he can rest forward periodically.

How does Marvel stadium compare to Adelaide oval for size?
I wonder whether this is a factor, may be we only need 2 marking tall and more extra run and pressure in the forward line.

I love the thinking Nori. Not sure if Marchbank is match ready. Has he played a practice match yet?
I'm not sure if Kruezer or Marchbank have played any practice matches?
We don't want anyone underdone!

I know I'm in the minority here but give Garlett until the midway point of the season and you're going to understand why he's in the team. We're going to endure a lot of **** ups until then but I have confidence that it will be well and truly worth it. I like some of the things that I've seen.

Confidence and patience.

Garlett is going nowhere, he is part of that back 6.

His run and gun will get better every week and is something we have not had since Yarran was back there.

If you can’t see the potential in Garlett, you have been watching our games through some questionably-coloured glasses.

That said, why does he need to be in the 1s to add the necessary strings to his bow? I genuinely don’t have an answer to that, aside from maybe the simple answer “he’s in until Marchbank and Williamson return at which point he’ll head back to 2s for further development”

Alternatively the coaching team feel he’s ready and just needs exposure to AFL and the tempo for it all to click. Stats suggest this might be the case as he’s clearly building into it:

Round 1= 9 disposals @ 44% efficiency, 3 rebound 50s, 2 score involvements.

Round 2 = 13 disposals @ 61% efficiency, 3 rebound 50s, 4 score involvements.

Also not sure if it’s been mentioned, but we ran a combined 301km this week, 3rd to Melbourne who ran 304... but ours was in wet conditions to cap it off.

That puts us top of the team km covered over the first 2 rounds @600 total. Fantastic effort from the lads.

Hazard a guess that Port won’t be able to back up this week quite as well as they did last, like Richmond this week after we ran them ragged in Rd 1. Not a punter but if I was...

Keen to see the effort continue against Sydney!

I agree with everything you said but just to clarify the line up;

The backline I assume would look something like;
Thomas, Jones, Plowman
Simpson, Weitering Marchbank

The mid's would be
Walsh, Cripps, Murphy,
Dow, SPS Phillips

Up forward
Fisher, McGovern, Setterfield
Gibbons, McKay, Kennedy

With the bench being
Garlett, Newman, Polson, E Curnow

I would say if the goal is to get him to choose better options, execute better and show more composure WHILE UNDER PRESSURE there is very little point in playing him in the VFL environment. The step up in pressure from AFL to VFL is too big.

more run less gun........

For me, it's the 1% that hurt him, and consequently, the team.. He panics and unfortunately, it gets compounded as we get punished as a result on the scoreboard..

That's one possibility. I'd have Polson starting in FP before Gibbons.

I'd also start Walsh on the bench and have Daisy starting on the wing.

Take your choice of Garlett or Newman for BP.

Line ups are pretty fluid now days, so I'm sure they're all going to change throughout the game anyway.

Fasolo plays as if he's a tall, so he's constantly trying to mark the ball on the lead. Unfortunately for him, Carlton already have enough marking players and what they really need are more high pressure, crumbing forwards that work hard to position themselves front and centre.

I'm not sure you can teach that old dog new tricks. I've already said bring Kennedy in for Fasolo, so Cripps can play more time forward. The other one I'd play more minutes forward is Fisher.

I would not mind Murphy playing that Boak role in the forward line. Fisher is certainly another player that could provide defensive pressure in the forward half.

And this is what I mean by dealing with the errors. They are a learning experience every time. The more opportunity he gets to adjust to the pace of the game and what is expected of him the better he will be and increasingly more consistent. He's got the potential to be a very good footballer in a role that we've been crying out for years. I can envision him becoming the running half back that we hoped Chris Yarran would become way back when. It's been a huge deficiency in our gameplan since his wellness left him. Has shown signs that he has a bit of mongrel in him too which is nice.
