AFL Toast RND 12: Win against NORF

Unless we can improve our handball we will go nowhere. North stayed in the game with handball that hit more targets.
Ours was sloppy and all over the place.

It helped them if anything because it changed their midfield mix and they killed us around the ball thereafter.
To lose two mid rotations for half a game is going to hurt anyone. Greenwood had an impact when they came back that second quarter

You know what I mean.

So I guess we have to lose next week then now yeah? ☹️☹️☹️
No. Where did I say that? I said I thought we might drop one of the Eagles or Roos. We're lucky we got away with both.

Tough game to watch and Essington PTSD kicks into overdrive for most of us as we fear the worst. Again this week I'm a happy camper.

This is a young team. We are missing 2 of our best 3 players. Shiel was on limited minutes and rotations. We are in the last few weeks before the bye after one of the toughest 6 game stints the AwFuL has ever fixtured.. coming back from Perth.. there are a lot of reasons why the boys could have heavy legs, why they could have taken this game easy..

I think we need a reality check that if anyone had offered us 7 and 5 heading into Rnd 13 at the start of the season.. we would have jumped all over it. This team is outperforming expectations and kicking major goals every week.

Merrett is proving an inspired choice for captain and is leading from the front. Has put it upon himself since Parish went down and has been a beacon. Ridley is up there in the conversation as AA CHB. Martin is proving the steal of all steals. Langford is proving more than handy as a fill in forward. Our structure looks good most of the time and you can see clearly what we are meant to be doing.

All teams, even the great ones, have flat spots and have to find a win. Last year Pies did the exact same thing and this year they are winning those same games by plenty. It is a skill to handle the pressure in those final moments and to 'find a way' and this squad is doing that. More than anything we don't need to talk down about how we almost lost to North.. AFL is one of the most even professional leagues in the world.. the difference between top and bottom is not that much in context. We got a win. We move on.

Next week is another huge challenge. Carlton.. rivalry.. they are looking for a scalp.. last game before the bye. going to be epic.

That umpiring display was putrid. The amount of times high tackles weren’t paid for blokes picking up the ball was a disgrace. Look at Caldwell getting taken high at center bounce after Mass goal.

Menzie taken out. Not a marking contest when can you use your hip to hit your opponent in the head?

-Shiel is a disgrace
-Ball use going inside 50 embarrassing
-Weideman should never play ahead of Voss
- McGrath ball use pathetic
-Typical Stringer going MIA till the last few minutes
-Merrett, Langford, Caldwell, Ridley, Martin, Perkins, Guelfi probabky our only good players
-We need a ruckman as the ones we have got aren’t much
-Probably 10 blokes who had horrific games

After last year I will take any win we can get . We are not a top 6 side and we are still at the stage of working out where we will be in the future.
Would be handy to get Wright back . Still need a genuine classy crumbing forward.

Beats a draw and a loss, hey

A close scare might be better for our mindset going into next week.
Glad you see it that way because that’s definitely the mindset I would be carrying into next week you know if I was them 😂

My biggest concern which it has been for many weeks is teams can take control away from us in the air. I’m not talking about so much about the forwards but more around the middle of the ground.
Has been a week point for a number of years.

Ours was sloppy and all over the place.

How come every other team is allowed an off-day and we're not? Why are we expected to be smashing sides? Were we not touted to be down where Norf are?

We haven't even succombed to an upset yet like other teams have and probably would have against a lowly team on on their best day if our system, accuracy and 1%'ers didn't drag us over the line.

The bar that some have set for this team is absolutely baffling. The boys should be celebrated for not dropping their heads and all people have to do is scoff that it wasn't a 100 point win like we're chasing a flag or something.
