Just finished watching the replay and if we were proud of the game they played against Carlton, then we should be even prouder again with todays game. First game since round 3 2008 that we've won a game without Martin Grimes Cotchin & Reiwoldt in the side. We had a lot of kids step up today when we needed them most. Mansell was huge as was Maurice playing up forward buzzing around and putting the Swans defenders under pressure whenever they got the footy. Seth Campbell was calm and composed for a kid who has played 4 games in his career, Dow answered a lot of critics with a big game in the middle, Miller Brown & Young were solid down back and will only improve the more they play together. Lefau looked much better 2nd game in hitting the scoreboard and having an impact inside F50. Along with all the positive signs we saw from the kids, it was great to see some of the older blokes get back to their best. Vlastuin was huge down back, intercepting pretty much everything that came his way, Taranto was back to his gut running best along the way to 35 disposals 8 clearances 6 tackles and an important goal. Daniel was influential coming off HB rebounding well, but also defending well when it was needed. Bolton played that forward/midfielder role perfectly, while Pickett had a big game on the wing covering plenty of ground and setting up a lot of play, but his defensive work was also quite important. The 2 major concerns from the game though will be the Lynch injury and just how long he could miss, while Baker will have an anxious night waiting to see if his bump will draw a week or 2 off.

On the basis that both Lynch and Baker will miss, the changes I'd have for the Saints game at Norwood are:
Out - Lynch (inj) Baker (susp) Lefau (omit)
In - Koschitzke Martin McAuliffe

B: Brown Young Miller
HB: Short D.Rioli Vlastuin
C: McIntosh Taranto Pickett
HF: Campbell Mansell M.Rioli
F: Balta Martin Koschitzke
R: Nankervis Bolton Dow
INT: Broad Ross Sonsie McAuliffe Banks

It's tough to be omitting a player after a team win like that, but I don't see Lefau being able to play key forward well enough to be a threat against the Saints. While Koschitzke isn't everyone's most liked I do think he'll give us at least a consistent effort playing forward and if he doesn't mark it, he'll bring it to ground at the very least. Martin if fit is an automatic in, while McAuliffe deserves a debut, especially when it's in his home state.

Yze is writing his own story:
Ross>Prestia
Brown>Grimes
Mansell>Ralphsmith
Balta is a forward
It goes on. This renewal would not have happened under Hardwick. We would be worse than Hawthorn maybe WCE. I am elated he is our coach and we will stick the course

Not to be negative about a gutsy win, on the back of a herculean defensive effort, but I do wonder where our goals are going to come from with no Riewoldt, no Lynch, no Martin

Good summary but I think Baker will only get a fine. Careless, high but low impact. Melican was fine and played out the game. But you just never know with the Richmond tax. 😉

i am 51 year old man and i teared up when the ball entered our forward line at the end and we all knew we were gonna win
I did at the end too. Been a bit going on around our performances lately and I was worried Yze was going to get unfair pressure, so very happy for him.

I’ve also had belief in our squad which has had its growth stunted in recent years. So pleased for them given how so many have been writing them off.

Out of ignorance and schadenfreude mostly. The future must be bright - look at how the twos are going.

Yze's gotta finally swing the axe on KMac this week, put Ross on the wing with Martin & Graham back. McAuliffe in for Sonsie or Banks. I cant believe Yze's saying Grimes just comes straight back in this week if fit? theres no spot for him.
I'd keep Ross in the guts and let Banks or Sonsie take that wing. Love everything Grimes has given us but surely we cannot drop anyone in the backline. They were superb today and our future.

and miller, keep on beleivin bro, awesome game
Re-sign him while he’s on a high.

The development in the last few weeks is so visible. Was massive in the Blues VFL game and the loss of Gibcus and Young that night has put him on a career path. So happy for him.

when he takes his time can actually hit a target

all between the ears
Great in front of goal, though. His problem seems to be depth of kick rather than direction.

Also, my heart was in my mouth late when Banks was one on one for a ground ball, and he won it. Was so pleased/relieved.

Graham should go into the ressies for a week or 2. Kmac had some howlers, but his positioning on the wing was immense in the last qtr he didn't allow Sydney an easy out.

Horse real flat but couldn't be more complimentary of us. I think he would be happy to see that cracks in his side so early in the season so he can make some changes.

Games like that where the pressure is high must be gold for teaching moments win or lose.

They can probably get away with not having a marking forward at the SCG but I suspect a lot of teams will gain a bit of confidence from seeing how poor the Sydney forwards looked on a big ground

I think Banks or Ross can cover what KMac does now but we'll see. I dont really like Graham coming straight back in either after missing a month of footy.

Richmond beat the team that the media has been jizzing over as flag favourites and the afl has the druggies top story with their win over the 1 win aints 😹😹😹

Correct, as there was no injury / concussion, I can't see how it's anything but Careless + high + low impact which is a fine.View attachment 1945788

It’s a living certainty that cretin Chrisso will make it ‘medium’ impact, under the magical little clause of ‘potential to cause injury’.

If he does then it’ll show how corrupt this league is after the ex-Pie lets off Pendles with ‘low’ and nails Baker with ‘medium’.

Chrisso can’t wait to tick the boxes to ensure the Tigers don’t get back to back wins…. bookmark it, he’s a cheat.

Wow what a win!

Totally unexpected.

Vlastuin was ridiculous lol.

Sonsie - have said it before but he needs to stay in the seniors. He will develop a lot better in the 1s than the 2s.

MRJ - I've been backing him in for ages, with not many backing me, but shit he was good today. Pressure was great and he actually made some gutsy 45 degree passes that opened things up for us.

Bolton - Plays 50 x better when Dusty isn't playing.

Campbell and Brown have been super impressive!!

Mansell - very very good.

Lefau - I'm shocked he played this week bur glad he did!

Our balance felt right.

Looks like Lynch will be out and probably Baker too.
