Going full glass half full, our season was mortally wounded with gibcus going down and ended with Lynch and Balta going down - so playing to win but ultimately losing is the best outcome for 2024

The good from the past fortnight

  • Yze clearly has buy-in the way the team has applied itself the past 2 weeks
  • Brown has really impressed - elite kicking and defensive skills. I now understand playing Balta forward
  • MJ has found a role that maximises his niche attributes. Again, kudos Yze
  • Dusty & Bolton were clinical
  • we are likely looking at a top 5 and top 25 pick in the draft. We desperately need some top end talent injected into the side, which is just the panacea ahead of Tassie joining

All good signs, but I still go to bed tonight absolutely ****ing furious

Agree with most of this but I thought Kosi showed signs that his form is improving and we should see him able to hold those marks in coming weeks, remember even Richo took 6 weeks into a season before his marking form was at the level
I don't know, because he's been doing that for weeks in the VFL. Even lowly Hawthorn dropped him out of the side.

I'm at a point now where I just want to see him hold on before I believe he can do it

Pickett and Macca had 1 touch the entire last quarter. Pickett has been living off a GF blind turn and a late goal against GWS for 30 games. Macca has been living off I don’t know what for 45.

Macca hasn’t had a single coaches vote for 44 games. Pickett for 33. They are cooked .. f*rk them off !

Can’t melt all we want but we don’t exactly have options smashing down the door to push them out either

Campbell played some wing today and it was far from his best game, Banks still building and Hugo would offer nothing defensively

We don’t really have the players available to force them out to have a mid play the role either so I’m not to fussed about them honestly

God there is some absolutely embarrassing s**t being posted.

We had the great same intent as last week, except without 3 of our best players and on a bullshit non-AFL standard ground that made the entire game a cluster *. Some of you reeling off our kids as if they were the issue are a disgrace. At least they had their hands on the ball with the game on the line.

Our system stood up and got pipped because we’re not mature enough yet. 11 players under 50 games. Great effort.

crap effort, but try again.

Okay, I have to come to Sonsie's defence here.
Last 5 mins was admittedly not great but he almost kicked two goals that would have put us in front. Only to be denied by two sets of fingertips. He was putting himself in amongst it which is more than I can say for many others.
Also to those criticising the holding the ball he got caught with, he literally picked it up with one hand then got tackled by someone he was blind to who came at speed.

Feel like people are using him as a scapegoat when he was at least trying to get us over the line. I'm not absolving him of fault as he made some really poor decisions today.

The heat should be on the likes of Pickett, McIntosh, Short and Graham. Short's kicking has been awful and all he does is just throw it on the boot. It's infuriating.

The thing is, Sonsie has played at AFL level before.

His efforts in that last quarter were inecusable. They were basic errors that not even a 'kid' should be making.

That effort where he went to ground instead of keeping his feet was bad and is one of the first things you get taught. Always keep your feet.
I’m not super worried

I’m filthy that it happened but he’s only played like 11 games with some as the sub and it’s the first time we have seen him make these kinds of mistakes

He also had some decent moments in the game
Just got to ride it out for now and make a move if it becomes a trend

He shouldn’t of got called for holding the ball either in that last contes

He picked up the ball and got tackled right away, had no prior imo should of been a ball up

We had Bolton pull goals out of his arse and St Kilda miss sitters, don’t sugar coat it we should’ve lost by 30+ and were lucky Martin played.

Yze should make MOST players wait til end of season for new contracts. HOWEVER I'd be giving Miller a 3 year dear pronto before another team swoops in. He has a son already too 🤣
I'm impressed by Miller. Honestly, he's proved himself this year. Glad he stayed

It’s so funny how this board melts when we were 20 point underdogs with the bookies.

Missing half our side including our 3 best KPP’s so forced to play a spud like Kosi and 3rd gamer rugby Lefau as our main forward targets.

10 players under 40 games

We lost by 7 points ffs… so many good signs!

It’s deadset embarsssing all the posters hammering the kids…

It’s more the premiership heroes and leaders like Short, Graham, McIntosh and Pickett that are letting us down

Was always going to be the case. If Lynch and Balta didnt play last week, we would have lost by 10 goals and everyone would have blamed the kids. Instead we win and they look that good. The small forwards especially are up against it with no good talls around them. We had a crack, if we keep the games close Ill be happy enough. There is really not much we can do without Lynch to beat any decent side. Kosi, Lefau, Ryan, Naismith, whoever we try as the number 1 key forward wont get it done.

Never seen a more cursed side for injuries.

Kosi might be the worst player I've seen put a Richmond jumper on since 2016.
3 worst players I've ever seen play for Richmond:

1. Fatty Farmer
2. Michael Laffy
3. Gus Graham / Kosi

There was a long list to choose from also.

I left out some dozzies like Trent Knobel and Ben Marsh.

Gonna be a tough slog until at least Balta is back. Wilkie did as he pleased without anyone to compete with him and bring the ball to the ground.
Given the enormity of the hole created up forward through injuries I'd say what we're looking at isn't wins but team cohesion and individual player development until we can get the forward line sorted again.

Today's close loss is as good as a close win when you look at who we had out and that they kept fighting till the end. That fight to the end is so important. Essendon could learn from our kids.
