Standard round one performance from us. Don't know about you guys but I felt it got a little out of control in the last, they got to within 3 goals twice. It has always annoyed me that we rarely put teams away but I'm used to it, it's what we do and has obviously worked well over the last few years.

Stack coming out of the back half/delivering the ball inside 50 looks so much better than he does playing ahead of the ball. He's too good a user not to have him playing in the middle/off half back.
50 points up halfway through the 3rd, possibility that we could be playing multiple games within a week so we no doubt took the foot off the pedal and conserved a bit of energy. When Carlton got close we upped the intensity and held off their surge comfortably.

Do you understand that we were best part of 8 goals up at half time and 50 points up halfway through the 3rd quarter and then put the cue in the rack?

You say we were smashed in clearances? We lost the overall clearance battle by 3, winning centre clearances by 1 & losing around the ground stoppages by 4.

Not sure you have noticed, but over the majority of the last 3 seasons and 1 game our game plan has relied upon the opposition being put under immense pressure around the contest, so that when they win possession they invariably hack it forward where our defensive set up allows us to win the turnover and then catch teams on the counter attack. On the other hand when we win possession around the contest we don't just hack it forward, our preferred option is to flip around quick handballs to get the ball into space where our support is and then cut through the oppositions zone with waves of runners coming from behind the contest to create the overlap and allowing us to handball it forward until we get into the right areas to then go long and direct into an open F50.

Finally Carlton got a number of goals from some of the softest free kicks including Astbury being pinged for holding when Silvagni tried to out body him but couldn't budge him. Edwards being pinged for a couple of fingers getting caught up in Casboults jumper as they fell to the ground. Newnes suckering Astbury into giving away a 50m penalty by grappling with him 25m off the play, then flopping when Astbury pushed him away. Baker being pinged for a block on Martin while holding his ground in a marking contest that involved 6 different players trying to get to a kick dropping short. Casboult flopping in the first quarter when outnumbered 3-1. Overall they kicked 8 goals from free kicks, whereas I think we only had the one where Dusty got awarded a free kick for being held in the second quarter.

We had 25 less disposals but were 12% more effective with our disposals running at 80% for the game and were 16% more efficient once inside 50. We also butchered a handful of chances late in the game that should have pushed the margin back out to near 7 goals, including Riewoldt kicking out on the full when trying to pass to Dusty, Lynch & Lambert leaving the ball for each other when Bolton passed I50 & Bolton missing an easy shot on the siren are 3 that spring to mind.
Well said!

Reckon we'll go with only one ruckman against the pies.
Use Broad as the new Grigga.
IN:Ross & Kmac.
OUT:Nank & Vlas.
Reckon you're right with Valtuin isdoubtful after concussion.

blooze fans reckon they are top 8 side now and pushed us

fu** me
The whole game was virtually identical to last years where we won by 33 points after kicking 5 goals to 0 at 1/4 time.

jus
Broad get's his ass wiped by the other defenders. If he doesn't have Grimes or Vlaus come in and give him a chop out he get's beaten, often.
True, Balta isn't ready but at least he's got a ceiling above sea level.
Vlas is huge worry one out imo, especially on taller blokes-Hendo and Oscar Mac exposed him on occasion in the 2019 finals.

Always surprised the oppo coach doesn't exploit that weakness more often, but I guess we don't allow it much.

Broad I think actually plays a little taller one on one, prefer him than Vlas in that situation

heck me the Carltoon supporters are delusional.
Talking like they are going to be premiers.
It was clear to me that the Tigs weren't really all that interested last night.
If we had stuck to our structure and played our game style we would have wiped them off the park.
No wonder Dimma was pissed he now has to listen to the dross that comes out of the media and Carltoon all week.
We all know we didn't play as we normally do.

Not enough love for Liam Baker with only 15% of the votes. Impressive by winning the hard ball and setting up play.
Had the most CP for the team - 16 Disposals 10CP @75% 7 Score Involvements.

I had Baker in my top 5. Courageous and did a lot of body work against bigger opponents. Also becoming more composed with very good decision making.

Still think we will need two rucks they will use cox as the 2nd ruck and we need someone who will be able to at least nullify him and Broad wouldn’t be able to

will need to either Back Nank in for one more week or bring CCJ in for him

def taking the piss

As soon as we actually needed to score we literally waltzed down the corridor and scored just like that

also cant see how any blues supporter doesn't realize we took the foot off to conserve. Did exactly what we had to and wont be stuffed if we end up with 4 day breaks if we conserve when we can.

The million dollar man then stepped up to give Carlton fans some false hope. Wiley of him to wait till the sting went out of the game

Our defenders set up for the rush kicks caused by manic pressure up the field. When that pressure isn’t there we can get exposed pretty quickly - see 2018 prelim.

2 50m penalties to us resulted in goals
