Reckon we need to bring in another defender to play on cox , I’d actually go chol , unlikely to happen though , I’m not confident Astbury is an ideal match up

Given that we dont seem to have a matchup probably not a bad idea to have a 200cm payer that can jump have a crack at a defensive post. Question is does he have the defensive nous

Watching Grundy monster English would rather hit him with both Soldo and Nank then bring in CCJ.

It worked last year, both soldo and nank are very physical players, you could see in the 2nd half of the return game that Grundy was cooked physically.

Nank looked way off the pace last week but both he and Graham will be better for the run given they havent had a hitout this preseason, so wouldnt surprise if they both keep their spots tbh.

Balta looked raw , I reckon cholly can compete in the air , he doesn’t read it well off the boot when forward his opponent intercepted at will , Irish bloke to I think first ever afl senior game,,,not sure I’ve rapt him up 😫

We got 2017 richmonded. We were left far too tall, while we didn’t get any real ruck dominance from it.

Dimma also said in the after fame presser, because of carltins restructure Asbury didn't have an appropriate matchup.

Grundy is in scary form already, have to sap him at every opportunity with our most physical rucks, crash, bash and maul.

****er was dancing a jig in the rooms after the game...looked like he could play another game without blowing out a candle. If any ruck ever wins a brownlow again it'll be him.

Umpires were fine. Our players were clumsy as f*** and got sucked in. Astbury gave away about five goals.

Out: Soldo, Graham (what was he doing out there)
In: Ross, CCJ

Spot on, people are forgetting the two 50s we got for goals in the first. Astbury eventually played the ball but was too clumsy. The umps have been practicing all summer and play a lot more free kicks in round 1. Last year Carlton got 5.1 goals from 50s

Agree with your ins and outs too. But no VFL for Ross and CCJ to star in?

Wasn’t that 2018

Have only seen nank play well v Grundy once when he seemed to tire late as nank lifted other than that he’s been owned , def drop him . Soldo did well last time v G , add CCJ as I at least have some confidence he can take a few marks around the ground

CCJ has a hell of a lot of potential but Grundy man handled English tonight, I’d be worried he’d do the same to CCJ. Nank isn’t gonna be pushed around as easily.

We beat Grundy up physically late last year, but fair chance he was tiring. This year he’ll be fresh as a daisy, we got to make him work in every ruck contest.

As some mentioned Nank or Chol and Soldo tag team on Grundy work him over we have did it before wrong game for CCJ. It was the Chol and Soldo last time.

Maybe if we steal all of grundys toilet paper before the game he will be stuck on the shitter all night and can't play with no wipes 💩💩💩💩💩💩💩

Our rucks rotate off the bench so we only ever have one on the field. In the backline was where it felt odd with their tallest player being McGovern (according to commentators)

the same backline that kept the best teams in finals to relatively low scores?

First round games are often higher scoring then the rest of the season because teams haven’t had a chance to dissect new game plans and work out how to shut them down.

There is some concern with no Vlas and Houli but I’d back our guys in to make adjustments over the course of the season.

Also disagree on Soldo, took a handful of important intercept marks in last years finals. He’ll continue to improve. But I do want CCJ in the side sooner rather than later, he has A-grade potential.
We always start off slow defensively lately. GWS kicked 100 more points against us at the start of the year than in the Grand Final. Collingwood scored 44 more points.

It’s been like that for quite a few years even with Rance in the side. I think we’ll eventually bring it down again.

We need to think of a midfield/ruck solution. Collingwood are better than us in the contests and don’t often cough the ball up once they take possession.

Does anyone have a solution for the midfield other than CCJ for Nankervis?

I might have one solution - Dusty doing second-efforts in the midfield. He was fine when he had the ball and he played decently don’t get me wrong, but I thought his defensive efforts without the ball were a little subpar. He needs to crack it in a little more against Collingwood.
