I have been so completely destroyed by ken Hinkley and Nathan Bassett that I felt nothing watching that game. No excitement when we were 4 goals up. No tension when Brisbane came back. No anger when we sh*t the bed in classic Hinkley style. I just didn't care. The only highlight of the entire game was dan Houston.

Even if we won, I'd seen enough to know that this was another year of the same hinkleyball trash and we're no chance of winning the flag.
I was on my phone only half paying attention for most of it, even in the last quarter when the game was close. When Aliir dropped that mark, I didn't get sad or angry, I just sort of sighed and went back to checking election results. I don't care about watching us anymore. I don't think I'll care again until Hinkley and Bassett are gone or we somehow fluke a Grand Final appearance.

Was pretty disappointed in Finlayson , looked as soft as Marshall with his attack on the ball.
Dont know how these guys can’t get into a decent position to at least make a contest . George struggles too .
I guess defenders try and take the dominant position as the ball comes in but surely you don’t just float around at the back of the hot spot .
Hopefully it won’t be too much longer until these guys can make an impact on a regular basis .

1 - Kick the Goal (or at least back yourself in and have a try)
2 - Kick wide to SPP, who is generally a reliable set shot, can take his to seconds and give our mids a rest.
3 - Forward handball to Rozee who who can then have the shot.

Naaa, ill do the logical thing and have a little chip kick to the Brisbane defender.

Seems to me they were all a bit pensive, maybe they were told to 'hang-on' don't make any mistakes....

I think rozee was doing the right thing there by heading to the goal square. It dragged his defender back leaving space for Drew to have a shot or handball over to Powell pepper to have a shot or handball over the top to rozee. It was a poor skill error that cost us there.

He took too long to have a shot - the best thign would of been to go to SPP - he curls them in from that spot easily.

I said before the game that the forward line looks ghastly on paper and it proved to be the case. We just don't have the forward line talent to be a contender.

Marshall is no good. The fan boys can say what they want but he sucks. If he was a Crows player we'd laugh at him endlessly.

Rozee is no good. Physically and mentally soft. And I'm starting to disagree with the idea that he actually does have talent, I think it's an illusion based on good looks, athleticism and draft number.

Finlayson is what he is. A third string key forward onto his second club.

Dixon, Motlop and Gray are all over 30. We can expect increasing injuries and deteriorating form from that trio.

Speaking of injuries, Fantasia is our most natural forward but he can never get out there.

Which leaves MG who has the talent to be a star but has played something like 40 games against men in his life. He still needs time.

It's a terrible line up. With everyone fit, you could dream of it being serviceable. But the reality is most weeks it will suck. Get used to it.
This post is work for word spot on and our season is already clear. We rely on haphazard moments of brilliance and have a nonce in the box. Stale by 6 years with no tricks in his repertoire

Yep, have you ever watched a team make it look so hard to score goals before.
They've got nowhere to go when things aren't going their way as the game plan (or lack of) demands 110% effort and a good amount of luck to work even at the best of times

Finlayson has 15 contested marks from his last 29 games (past 3 seasons). Marshall takes twice as many over the same period.

Theres a reason we got him cheap, and he's the complete opposite of what a player needs to succeed in our fwd line.

On reflection, I’m not sure what to make of last night. We’ve seen it all before, so there’s that.
First game of the season against a side at home favoured by many as a grand finalist.
We could have won but for some costly errors. I can’t remember a more ineffectual performance by our forward line, yet we almost got there.
The backs are undersized but did well.
I’m not optimistic but I’m going to see how it pans out over the next couple of months.
It was kind of a solid performance but as I said previously it felt stale and that is probably what you get with an underachieving 10 years with the same coach and a forward line in Bassett’s hands.

Imagine if we had a really serviceable 200cm ruck/forward who we spent a few years developing and was good for a few good marks and a few shots at goal a game and decent ruck support.

Trade him out under the no dickheads policy I reckon.

Then we can win the nice guys premiership. Such an amazingly nice team. So much connection and synergy. Just really nice all round.

People whingeing about Ladhams, he didn't even get a game for the Swans in their preseason match, nor did he even make the emergencies for the real stuff. He's not the answer. He's certainly not any less flakey than Marshall or Finlayson.

He’s far superior to both Marshall and Finlayson in that not only is he a better forward than both, he can also provide genuine ruck support.

Ladhams is really bad tho, so I can't agree with that.

What we should do is play Hayes, I thought that was why we traded Ladhams. Hayes just by way of being 200cm+ will be more effective than Georgiades/Marshall/Finlayson playing deep in our setup.

Brisbane never have any problem playing two ruckmen.

I mean Fort, come on, he's ok at best and even he clunked a couple of marks and kicked goals.

Play Hayes now, not in a Portnight.

Last night's defeat wasn't a complete disaster like a lot of posters have alluded to.
There were good signs: Houston stepped up, Mead is going to be ok, Bonner continues his good form, Butters will become out no. 1 player, Wines and Boak were good but the glaring problems are our forward shemozzle. Without Dixon and Fantasia we are impotent.
Our intensity was good. Next week we will smash the Hawks... It's a long ride, we are still in the hunt for the flag.

He was also a huge campaigner that not only the coaches hated a fair whack of the playing group. Took the piss far too much

I waited until Marshall was over 50 games.

But he just doesn’t have it.

He does a job that any very average forward could do. We are better off getting someone bigger to at least cause some hurt.

What a waste.

That no one from Port's leadership group is a forward speaks volumes.
How many times a week must the forwards coach wash the senior coaches car to keep this gig.
Perhaps he vacuums out all the salt from the chips and recycles the coke cans also.

Difficult conditions last night, Port seemed to get injured a lot.
Didn't expect Port to win this anyway.
Someone has to lose, right.

Will have a close look at the Hawthorn game today to identify which Darcy Fort will destroy Port next week.

Of all the stats thrown around I think SC points most accurately reflects how players go.
Make up your own mind but I think its pretty accurate.

Here's some context to giving up a 15 point 3QT lead.

We've come from 15 points or more behind at 3QT only 5 times in our AFL history. The most recent of those games was R5 2013. So what happened to us last night we do on average once every 5 years to an opposition - and in fact haven't done so for close to a decade now.

How many times do you think a team has been 2 or 3 goals in front of us at 3QT with a few injury concerns and still managed to fight and hold on for victory? Plenty of times I bet.

We're soft. Mentally and physically soft. Club is entitled and love making excuses for themselves rather than just admitting they're not good enough. Don't give them any excuses.

Classic Kenny in the presser, “if we play like that we will win more than we will lose”

Hated when I heard that, we lost

The excuse mentality is toxic to success in most pursuits and this one is no exception.

Winners win, losers make excuses.

Hinkley and his excuse mentality have to go. No excuses. We lost. Be better. Full stop.
