Autopsy Round 16, 2024: Positives and Negatives vs Hawthorn

Well…sure.

You don’t get that sort of rope when you’ve presided over the worst era in club history. Our list has a hard ceiling on it due to the level of talent on the list, but this is as strong a Round 16 lineup as any club could hope to put out there.

If you’re going to back in the guy who has steered us into/hopefully through and out of the last few years, then the onus is on him to fix things. He can’t click his fingers and get Yeo or Kelly 30 touches, but fairly on unfairly given the amount of chances he’s had, we need to see a hell of a lot more than that.

Mids got a bath. That’ll happen sometimes. But that wasn’t the only issue today. We couldn’t transition the ball at all, we had no run and carry, it was just one of those days we’ve seen too often where it’s evident we’re miles off it right from the start. Midfield didn’t help, but there’s so much more to fix about today than that.

I’ve been possibly the most patient one on here with Simmo, laughing at the people desperate to melt over every single tiny bump in the road because they need a machine to rage against, but equally sometimes bad is just bad. Today was a mountain, not a mole hill.
Perhaps a fair few on here weren’t “desperate to melt over every single tiny bump in the road” as you say but rather could see the the wheels, doors, windows, bonnet all flying off.

Nice you got a laugh over the last 3 years but as you say, you can now see it’s actually a shite show so welcome to the party.

Anyhow u can get your hug from Simmo and you’ll be all good!

They can clearly do it because we’ve seen them match it with some of the best but too often we just lack energy and dare.

Duggan needs to step down as captain because his scared, hesitant play sums up our entire team. No organisation and no dare to take the game on.

Didn’t realise it was simpsons fault that yeos dad died and it resulted in yeo having 20 less touches than his direct opponents.

Is Yeo our entire midfield?

Our engine room today wasn't up to it.

Yeo, understandably below his normal level.

Kelly, first game back for 5 weeks.

Harley, first game back for nearly 4 weeks.

Ginbey, still finding his feet at this level.

Chesser, ditto.

Flynn and Bailey. Injury to Flynn.

Basically every area and player was well under their best. A totally sh!*ty day at the office all round.

Yeah exactly. Not much of this simpson can control. The only thing I blame simpson for the playing Reid at full forward for too long.

Only two positives, and generally they are c in the positives every week and they are Gov & TB.

Simmo has lost the players and has coached any creativity out of them.

They look to go backwards as soon as they get the ball, our game plan has barely changed since we won the granny.

Watching the team start the games nearly every week is much like Woosha end of tenure, their is is just no spark or intensity , they literally stroll to their position, barely engage the player they are on. Yes their has to be some personal pride, but part of coaching is motivating your players. That is not happening any more, time for him to go, and it has to be the end of the season at the latest.

We’re just ahead of you in the development phase.

In my opinion difference between one’s worst and one’s best tells us where we are in the premiership race.

Hopefully Harley extends his contract with your eagles and leads your new generation of youth.
We haven't even started our rebuild yet.
Not when we have 14+ senior players in the side.

+ Campbell Chesser picking up 3 quick disposals jn the first 5 min. I was thinking 'Here we go, Chess on track to get about 20d today!'

- He ended up with 6 disposals for the day.
100% with you, when he had that snap on goal and had three good early involvements I was thinking **** is this the Chesser game.

It was not the Chesser game.

They could make an effort - they are paid for it.

Ya'll are leagues in front of us in the development stage. At least your coach isn't afraid to give his players a clip when it's deserved. Your whole season turned around the week Mitchell told the players to bring their mouth guards to training.

This felt almost as bad as the Sydney game last year

The lack of intensity and effort around the contest was pathetic from players across the board - old and new. This includes guys playing for their careers lol

I like Simmo but really, really hope he's gone at the end of this season. We need a new coach with a fresh perspective

Simpson needed to go in 2021. Buckley went and Collingwood won a flag. Clarkson went and Mitchell has the Hawks flying. Words like "organised", "disciplined", "improvement" that can't be applied to us in 5 years.
Ratten went and St Kilda are…
Pyke went and Adelaide are…
Cameron went and GWS are…
Hardwick went and Richmond are…

It’s time for Simmo to go but let’s not pretend sacking your coach is some one way ticket to the good life.

First time since probably 2021 ive actually been ropeable about our performance.

The midfield comprehensively had their arses handed to them.

Ginbey....dont know what to make of him. He fumbles all the time.

No excuses for Kelly or yeo imo.

Yeo's Dad literally died during the week...they should've told him to take the week off to be perfectly honest with you.

Hawthorn are the team we should be emulating. They play for each other, work hard and have a clear system of how to move the ball forward and defend. Very impressed by them today, should have romped us by more.

We were simply dismal. Terrible to watch

agreed

we need a new direction but I think we are being a bit optimistic to think that a new coach will completely change our performance overnight

People wanted him sacked halfway through 2018 after a bad loss to Essendon at home. People wanted him sacked in 2017.

Coaches exist to be sacked.

Getting in first to say I reckon our next coach will be sacked and cannot wait to rub it in everyone’s face that I was right earlier than they were.

Broken clocks don’t get to take victory laps. Some of the melts over the journey have been ludicrous, but well done on predicting a coach (any coach, pick one) will eventually make way for another coach.
