Autopsy Round 19 = Hawthorn 133-67 Collingwood

A bad day

But the sky isn’t falling in… just the end of the current cycle

2014-2017 the club was mediocre … but bought in the talent through draft and trade that set up 2018 and the core of the current list

Pies need to do the same now… look at how Geelong had a bad post flag year… then retired a few and drafted well and are now back in top 6 contention

Not sure why but it is ingrained in every Collingwood player in my lifetime to be soft against this mob.

Midfield - needs massive renovation - stop relying on oldies, start looking for players to support Nick in our next tilt in 3 years?

Defending system - worst I have ever seen, unaccountable, but you get a high five for doing nothing but guarding space that ain’t being used. How about we reward non hopeless behaviours

20 goals conceded in wet weather is a complete failure for even wooden spooners

Well said whiskey. Unfortunately the dozen posters on here that post nothing but hyberbole and can’t handle losses won’t agree. My ignore list is growing. The endless comments on here have been embarrassing.

We’ve been up the top for awhile, there’s a fall coming. A new period which we need to embrace

Well, we’re at a crossroads now. We can either make some hard calls and start a mini rebuild, or persist with sentiment and let the wound fester.

Injuries have played a massive part in this season, but so too has complacency and a lack of preparation. Every loss this season, apart from perhaps those just prior to the bye, has reeked of a casual attitude and thinking that things are just going to happen or get given to us.

We need to start playing more youth for the remainder of this season, hit the trade period hard and cull a number of players on our list. For me I’d start with Markov and Noble and have some serious conversations with Sidey and Howe about retirement.

There’s enough in this list but the transition is a delicate one and will require hard calls to be made and intelligent trading/drafting decisions.

The day we all realised that we are in for a world of pain in the coming years.

Put the GF replay on fellas.
We always had a very small window under McRae. Thankfully we got the cup without a development year

If only we had high draft picks… and a decent head recruiter…

Is anyone really surprised that we were flogged by Hawthorn? I mean ffs they always flog us whenever we are not in form and when we are in form it is damn tough to beat them. This result was predictable. They showed us what 22 guys playing with intensity, aggression with a ball hunting mentality can do. Our intensity was very low and we were under pressure all day. They looked so much fitter than us as well, often they outnumbered us at contests and were faster to transition. Why we save our worst for them every season is a great mystery to me.

Anyway, I'm glad we got pumped as we deserve it, it's been coming for a while. Might not even beat Richmond next week either, that is how bad we are going. Hard to believe post-premiership we could fall this far. But, if the team was satisfied with the 1 flag then a big drop off is to be expected. When you come off 5% you lose, when you come off 20% you get pumped.

Apologies for the intrusion. Feel free to delete if not appropriate.

Your 2024 reminds me of our 2009. Too many injuries just preventing any chemistry building from a lack of continuity. Coach stubbornly stuck trying to play a game plan that the oppo has had the last 12 months working to counteract. You also lost a huge piece of your defense in Murphy as we did with Croad.

You have enough talent on the list to be competitive for a long time. Keep your heads up.

Looking forward to this fixture next year. Hopefully we meet in the finals someday. 2011 prelim still stings. Still can't forget the atmosphere.

Combination of injuries and a lack of leadership has hurt us this season which has unfortunately closed the premiership window for now.

Need a bit of a shake up for the end of the year with positioning:

- Moore forward/ruck (defensive liability, replaced by Frampton who I think is a better one on one defender)

- Quaynor into the middle (defensive liability - move crisp to half back)

- Sullivan as a small lock down defender (give him a role to lock down on the small forwards - if he can’t do this role he be successful in AFL)

- Steele Sidebottom to play forward pocket (has always been dangerous around the goals)

- Markov is unfortunately finished

- Reef McInness to play wing

Just some options to give new opportunities to players and try to find something at the end of this year.

Nah, unfortunately IMO we are set for a West Coast plummet off the edge of the cliff.

Too many older players, not enough talent coming through and a broken system.

Great win by you guys. You have some ripping great young players. Although I was never his biggest fan Ginnivan has shown that in the right system him is a super player.

The player we're missing most is Murphy. Our defense has never been the same without him. Cox is also a big out. We're getting murdered at stoppages especially when Cameron is not rucking.
More then just Murphy

The only people who put in less effort today were security. Hawk dickhead amongst the Collingwood members spent more time with his back to the ground trying to incite a fight, but security were too lazy to walk him.

Absolute rabble.

Great trading boys… effectively Ginnivan and pick 6 for Schulz. Genius

And the backline is seriously fkd.

How Markov is better than Dean, I’d love to know.

And Quaynor and Moore can take their new sponsorships and shove them up their asses. Absolute pretenders.

Please leave Derek. And let’s recruit a proper head of football and head of recruiting. And quit the Collingwood arrogance and start rebuilding through the draft. How about starting with a proper KPF…. For the first time in 15 years

Dean unavailable due to the concussion protocols. The last thing we needed though was to be taller in defence, and slower.

there is a player development issue at the club .... picks from the draft proper are not coming through as expected ..... whilst SSP, mid-season pick-ups* are by comparison over-represented in team selection

just an observation - make of it what you will ...... im off before getting abused by long-termers :p

For the remainder of the season I don't want to see kids in the rooms, I don't want to see instagram posts of the coach crying because a player returns from injuries, I don't want to hear cliches.. or wrapping arms around players..

Give them a ****ing spray, punish them at training and I don't care how big of a name you are.. everyone is droppable.
