Schultz takes punishment every week because he lacks the finesse on the outside.

We seemed to manage just fine last season without Schultz copping punishment in our forwardline.
More I50 pressure was why we recruited him, so clearly we weren’t happy with last years setup.

I’m still waiting for you tell us who replaces him.

Really not interested in Schultz at freo

I’m interested in Schultz that cost us the farm to play with us this year
He’s been very underwhelming and I don’t care if people here try and pull the Jedi mind trick that he’s been great
The trade has been a king size flop
And I’m not interested in debating on issues were logic and perspective are two words beyond the comprehension of a poster.

My concern with the recent fades outs is fairly simple.
Coaches at 3/4time should be asking “ who can turn the game for the opposition” and then double down on a strategy for the last QTR.
If Cripps and Heeney had both been hard tagged, blocked and harrassed I doubt we lose both games.

We've had the rub of the green in a few matches this season with the umps but definitely did not get it last night.

Having rewatched the last quarter in the cold light of day, with half a dozen beers less under my belt, a few things stood out amid the horror show.

  • I think Maynard's shoulder is stuffed again. When he manned the mark for McDonald's goal from right on 50m, he did not so much as raise a hand to add pressure. Considering the kick at goal made it by a metre, this might have made a difference. Surprised me given Maynard's penchant for the 1%ers.
  • Horrible reversal of free kick to Parker from Long. He'd been taken high by Grundy and whistle went and Parker kept attacking him. So Long lashed out and Parker went down with a fair bit of mayo on it. So much for Parker hero stance last year against Dylan Shiel was it? This should have been a ball driven deep inside 50, instead the Swans were away.
  • 50m against Bobby Hill. Whistle went that quickly for a pretty minor indiscretion. Was it the same ump who later denied us what was as clear-cut a 50m penalty as you will see for McStay?
  • Cox can be forgiven a he has missed so much football this year, but he was terrible in the last quarter. Cameron was arguably our best player but when the Swans got on a roll, Mason could not get near it.
  • A wonderful run-down tackle by WHE on McDonald... but then i think he was gassed and kicked it OOF. A goal here would have pretty much shut the gate.
  • The obvious controversial deliberate calls, one after the other. It was all one-way traffic with the umps by then. They are only human but it's frustrating when the mistakes are so glaring, like the McStay one at the end. I guess 50m would have taken him to 15m out or so?

And in summary, again we went with the parking-the-bus (Presti) call, and again it let us down. Our defence (whole ground) is simply not as good as it was when this tactic was working for us in 2022-23. Also, I don't think we were trying to kill games with so much time left on the clock. It's especially dangerous at the SCG where a couple of long kicks take you from one end to the other. A couple of dicey frees here and there, a quick break from centre, and the goals can come quickly.

Anyway, gutted about the result but onwards and upwards in 2025.
Good summation, well done on getting through that Q4 again.

The inconsistency between the Hill 50 and what wasn’t paid against Parker…. FFS, how does that happen?

Thought the Qs, like those’d asked at most pressers, were insipid.

They rarely ask the tough, needed Qs and then, accept any answer given instead of doing what they need to do and press the issue.

It’s like interviewing players, why bother.

Across the competition it’s becoming increasingly difficult to stop a side who switches to a mostly attacking mindset once they have nothing to lose. 6 goals I feel is now the sweet spot to be safe. Obviously the attacking side needs most things to go their way including some luck. The swans got that and more last night.
I think it's because we were the only ones who had really drill the attacking and defensive mode and thus it worked, But now everyone has drilled them - and the defensive mode doesn't hold up against the attacking mode.

Was Leigh Fisher one of the umpires last night?

Great

Big footy posts are an opinion based forum
Insinuating that because someone doesn’t agree with your opinion that their incapable of logic or perspective is completely illogical

More hyperbole!
Please tell us all in which round in 2023 we had 16 players on the injury list?

Hyperbole?

Are you saying we didn’t have a lot of injuries last year?

I literally listed it all out and even probably forgot a few.

For a person named “No SPIN” it’s crazy how basically all you do is post spin.

I never said our injury list was worse. I didn’t even list a number. All I said was we had plenty of injuries. Which is factually correct.

It's not just a drop off though, it's a deliberate tactic to not score and save the lead force Swans into trying to grind the win out.

It's horrendous mindset coming from last year's attacking one.
yep fascinated that the players themselves cant see they have done this for weeks in a row ..

His DE was 72% - you need to find another angle.

You will get a decent disposal efficiency when your dinking the footy 15 to 20 metres to a teammate. In the last quarter when he just needed to hit up the lead, he couldn't and then missed a simple handball to a teammate at the most crucial time. Those are the instances players like Bytel need to stand up and show they have the capability and he didn't....

Yes Hyperbole - by comparison to last year our injury list was far far worse, with 19 players unavailable at one stage.
You wanted to dismiss the impact of injuries on our overall performance this season, by suggesting we also suffered injuries last year.
An absurd contention and therefore definitely hyperbole by any sensible or logical analysis.

Lmao, listening to crunch time on SEN you'd think Sydney had led all night and won by 6 goals. Sydney are back they reckon! Nah, we just shat the bed.
The way the excitement level lifted in the commentary box last night as soon as they kicked a goal in the last qtr 🙄

They all sounded like they were in mourning for the first 3 qtrs.

We actually had 19 injured players listed at one stage this year, IIRC, but a couple came off the list at the end of that week and played.

Our injuries have been more numerous, longer lasting, to more senior/better players, and more often consecutively for the latter players, than last season. Than pretty much any of our seasons in recent memory, although under Bucks we had some shocking seasons.

But never forget - injuries are no excuse…

Not an excuse, but I think we can slightly temper our expectations of outcomes...

I think we have seen enough signs that we will recoup and have a big shot at 2025.
