Something to be said from the last couple of games about the mid-age brigade - the kids are good and we'll get more of them, but we've seen big steps forward from some players who looked dicey to be around for the next premiership tilt.
Waterman didn't replicate last week but still fought hard and deserves his spot, SPS looks like he's found a role where he really works for the team, Jones was huge last week and should get more consistent with time, Hunt has been a very astute pick up and even Witho has shown quite a bit of fight the last few weeks.
On the kids, I think Chess did take a big step forward today as the game went on, clearly has been some value in persisting with him.

That Oscar Allen marking contest where he came up holding the knee, may have been legitimatly bad. that and chess would give us 7
Another positive was winning the contested possessions by 12 and losing the clearances by 4 despite losing Hitouts 69 to 16.

So many Positives: Our coach has shown he is really invested. Love seeing Simmo completely in the game.
Players have shown they are invested. Hard to fault any players commitment to the club. Everyone is having a serious crack.
Ginbey is good. So is Long. Chesser showed a bit and so did Hewitt. Got to love the young blokes having a crack today.
Senior players are having a serious go too and that is leading the way.
Williams just competed and it’s all you can ask. Just crack in big fella

Well injuries clearly. Shuey was gold and then broke down. Gov big loss. Ryan hopefully pulls up okay.

I forget when exactly in the 3rd- but to see Ginbey break a tackle and just get himself out of trouble from a centre clearance was a great sign. I think one of the hallmarks of our early 00’s midfield was that ability to not just evade but also to be able to bust through them.
He’s going to be a challenge to tackle in a couple of seasons. He’s just so strong already.

He's just lacking composure right now. You can see when he gets the ball he runs like a cat on a hot tin roof. Bit more time and exposure and he'll get amongst it, you're spot on - the talent is there.

Positives is that we nearly won that with no bench
Also the injuries are to personnel mostly that will be gone in a year or two bar Ryan. It could be a blessing in disguise.
However I'm extremely worried over the next four or five games. It could get really ugly.

Most likely but as long as we are beaten and not defeated there will be upside to take out of the games.
Today we were beaten but Freo in no sense defeated the team that ran out (and hobbled off)
Injuries, umpiring and failure to convert aside, that game was great to watch. The best loss I can remember seeing. Our effort was sensational.
So many positives but a few shout outs - SPS (really good again), Ginbey (same comment), Long (is just sex).
A special shout out to Bailey. He got smashed in the hitouts but never stopped competing and gave it his all. Two weeks in a row. That’s all you can ask. Not 100% convinced but he is still young for a ruck in age and games.
I also thought Chesser improved as the game went on and whilst I wouldn’t have picked him game one, as Phil said last week, they probably want to fast track him in terms of experience given games missed so will wear him taking time. That said, he may be due a rest if injured/ sore.
A few negatives (which seems churlish given the effort) but Sheed was diabolical today. Gaff was mixed. His effort as the game went on was excellent and in a lot of ways he had a good game. But his kicking isnt AFL standard currently and he is a momentum killer. So not sure where to place his game. I think other players would offer more going forward but credit to his immense effort as the game went on.

Positive - Frederick doing a flip celebration after a junk time goal , after doing jack shit all day made me cringe so bad . I felt embarrassed for him . This is not soccer .

Funny how you pick odd things live at the game.
1) We obviously outplayed them all over the ground except for 10 mins in the second and then the last quarter when we just run out of legs.
2) Freo has cooked another rebuild. They are done and we will win another before they do
3) No one mentions Hurn but he will leave an enormous hole in the team when he retires in 5 years. Shored up the defence when McGovern went down.
4) There was a marking contest in our forwardline at a pivotal point in the last quarter. Darling had first hands but was tackled/ pulled backwards in the contest for no whistle. Obvious free kick was obvious and a goal would have bought us back into it.
This was the play that then went to to the wing and Ryan got inexplicably got pinged a 50 for what looked like hobbling to the mark. WTF he is supposed to have done is beyond me. The whole crowd Freo included - was very muted when it resulted in the goal that decided what had been a great contest. Thanks maggots for ****ing a great game
5) Albanese with his fat guts holding his wine getting booed while oblivious he was on the big screen. Look of surprise when he turned around and realised.
